Wimbledon tennis tournament: how to get tickets?

With a first edition in 1877, Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is one of the most emblematic Grand Slam competitions. It is held every year at the end of the month of June, a few weeks after Roland Garros.

The traditions continue: all players play blank and no match is played on the first Sunday of the fortnight.

Unlike Roland Garros, having tickets to Wimbledon is a real sport! So how do you get your tickets to attend the Wimbledon tournament? All the answers now!

Dates of the Wimbledon tennis tournament 2020

From Monday June 29 to Sunday July 12, 2020

Due to the public health risks linked to the coronavirus epidemic, the Wimbledon tournament is canceled.

The Public Ballot for non-residents of Great Britain

The first step in trying to win tickets is to register on the official website of the Wimbledon tournament between September 9, 2019 and October 21, 2019, followed by the request, open from November 1 to 30, 2019.

Please note: logging in early is not a guarantee of getting a place. This registration allows you to participate in the draw which will give you the right to buy your tickets for the central court and courts n ° 1, 2 and 3.

The drawing of lots is carried out by computer. Therefore, if you are drawn, you will not be able to choose the date of the match or the court.

People with reduced mobility or in wheelchairs can specify this on the registration form.

After completing your request, you will receive two e-mails. Upon receipt of the first you must click on the link to verify and confirm your request. Finally, the 2nd will confirm your participation in the draw. Successful candidates will be informed by email at the end of March of the following year.

Weren't you drawn? Do "The Queue"!

Are you very very very patient and stubborn? So go do "The Queue" and try to buy a ticket on the spot for one of the matches of the day.

The cartel queue is highly regulated. On your arrival, you will be guided by stewards who will give you a dated and numbered “Queue Card” which indicates your position in the queue (in order to avoid any attempt at cheating).

No question of moving since the stewards carry out regular checks to verify that people are present.

It's the sportiest way to go to the tournament. Indeed, it is the rule of "first come first served" that takes precedence. As a result, large numbers of people camp on site in order to be certain of entering the enclosure.

Practical information for ticket sales at The Queue:

  • - Sale opens from 8 a.m. Gate 3 located on Wimbledon Park Road
  • - Payment only in cash
  • - 1 ticket per person
  • - Places on sale for the central court and the courts N ° 1, N ° 2 and N ° 3
  • - Please note that for the last 4 days of the tournament there is no longer any ticket sales for the Central court.

The visitors with reduced mobility who intend to purchase tickets on game day are asked to call the ticket office on +44 20 8971 2473 for details on queues and car parking.

Get tickets to Wimbledon with The Ticket Resale

Another solution is to obtain tickets via “The Ticket Resale Kiosk”. But then again, you will have to queue again.

Spectators who leave Wimbledon before the end of the matches are invited to hand in their tickets when leaving the stadium. These tickets are then put back on sale from 15 p.m. at the kiosk north of court 18 (Promenade St Mary).

£ 10 for a seat on center court
£ 5 for other courts

The profits are donated to a charity.

Bon plan : the ground ticket

The ground ticket allows you to enter the Wimbledon grounds to watch the matches on the outdoor courts. You will not see the headliners but will still have a show!

You can also follow the matches on a giant screen located north of Court 1 on Aorangi Terrace, formerly known as Henman Hill.

This alternative has the advantage of being able to be in the atmosphere of the tournament at a lower cost.

The price of the ground ticket decreases over the weeks because the matches are fewer and fewer.

Can I buy a ticket to Wimbledon on a resale site such as Ebay?

For your information, Wimbledon tickets are non-changeable, non-refundable and non-transferable. 🙁 All tickets offered for resale are canceled.

Therefore, there is no point in trying to buy your tickets on resale sites because you will not be able to attend the matches.

If unable to do so, return your tickets.

Book your seats for Wimbledon through an official tour operator

There are 2 official agencies:
- Sportsworld, for UK residents and Asian and Australian visitors.
- Keith Prowse, for European and American visitors.

Going through the services of Sportsworld or Keith Prowse agencies ensures your entry into the desired court on the day of your choice. However, to get your ticket, the agency requires that you purchase a full package which includes:
- 1 place for the tournament
- accommodation with breakfast in a 3, 4 or 5 * hotel
- transfers to get to the tournament
- access to the museum
- free tea, coffee, pastries

These agencies allow you to organize your tournament with confidence and to choose the ideal dates, taking into account your constraints. In addition, since you choose the dates relatively in advance, you can ensure that you have train or plane tickets at the best prices. But beware, depending on the accommodation chosen, the court and the desired match, the bill may turn out to be steep. Service and comfort come at a cost !!!!

MetroWimbledon tennis tournament: how to get tickets? bus Southfields493

Once out of the metro, you won't have too much trouble finding your way: there are many signs posted everywhere. Allow about 15 minutes to walk.
For the less athletic, shuttles are available at the metro exit. (Bus n ° 493).

Conclusion

I warned you to go to Wimbledon it has to be earned !!!!! I advise you to take part in the raffle first, as they say do not eat bread and you are not immune to a good surprise.

Queuing for hours is not very exciting especially when you come to London for a few days. Therefore this is not a solution that I will encourage you to take.

For me, the best solution is Ticketmaster because you can on the one hand choose the day when you want to attend a match and on the other hand you do not need to go there waiting for loads and have the disappointment of having done all this for nothing !

And before you go to Wimbledon, don't forget to read all my practical advice in the article Wimbledon manual !
