A brief history of the Harrods store

Established in 1849 by Charles Henry Harrod, the store sold mainly tea and groceries during the era. The store was owned by the Al Fayet family from 1985 to 2010 and then sold to the state of Quatar.

What do we see at Harrods?

Much more than just a store, Harrods is an architectural curiosity both inside and out.

Its 1901 Edwardian-style terracotta facade is a real curiosity.

Inside, take a look at the Egyptian Hall, which occupies several floors over part of the store. The escalators are also in the same style with a very busy decoration: balconies, pillars decorated with hieroglyphics, statues ...

In the basement, the memorial dedicated to Lady di and Dodi Al Fayed where is a photo of the couple as well as the ring that Dodi gives to the princess the day before the drama. After so many years, the memorial still attracts so many people, the condolence book is still available.
