JAPAN LANGUAGE FACTORY LTD - International Japanese Language School -: what do users think?

Veronica Butler: Very much enjoying the informal and friendly teaching style. Despite not seeming like hard labor, I feel like I have learned a lot in just five weeks. My wacky project to learn Japanese is off to a great start. I pretty much had no prior knowledge of the language going into the first lesson, but now I have a foundational understanding on which to develop. The classes are fun above all else.

Umaima Abdul Wahab: In 2022, It was the best choice to start the JLF Master Course after many years of textbook study. Finally, I can communicate with the Japanese confidently. JLF Coaches are excellent in that they encouraged me to speak in front of people. I had never done so many practices speaking Japanese because most of the Japanese language schools focused on writing Hiragana and kanji, not conversation. I did a total of more than 60 hours of speaking training in JLF. Thank you JLF!

Rob_in Japan: There are many reasons to be suspicious. As others have said, JLF encourages you to sign up for all classes in one go. There is no money back guarantee. They promise that you can master Japanese fluently if you take their two month ‘master course’, but in reality, it’s not possible to acquire a language in such a short time. Terumi is a very argumentative person and several staff members left in a very short time during the period I studied there. Although I was interested in studying Japanese, I eventually grew tired of having to repeat the same phrases, and I never made the progress I should have done. I really don’t feel happy about my experience with Japan language Factory, as I paid a lot more per class and I could have saved money finding tutors through Italki and other web programs.
Response: Mr. Robert Cottingham. We are sorry that you feel badly treated and that you don't remember enough because you graduated a year ago. We already had a consultation before the master course almost 2 years ago that you want to promote your "Cottingham cookies" business in the UK and Japan. Also, you wanted to work in Japan. This is the reason, we helped to translate your business as you requested but later you changed your mind you want to work in Japan, and become an English teacher, not for your business. After the master course, as you wish you could apply for an English teacher in Japan. But you started complaining that you don't like the rules in Japan and that you need to wear business suits and need to use some specific textbooks for teaching English. Finally, you stopped going to Japan and stopped thinking to become an English teacher. We saw that your heart breaking that you lost motivation for everything for your business and going to Japan. After completing the Master's course, you contacted us that you started learning Chinese to start a new business not interested in learning Japanese anymore. Overall, We don't have a problem that sometimes students' motivation changes or losing motivation. But we can't guarantee students' motivation. We have the guarantee that we can promise a certain level of fluency if you follow our learning method that is written in our JLF textbooks which is 20 minutes of JLF speaking training. Any goal in your life can be achieved if you make effort and not giving up. But changing goals too often or losing motivation does not give us any results in our lives in general. We can help students to speak Japanese however we don't have any money-back guarantee for getting a job in Japan or even keeping your motivation during the course or after the course. But if you are willing to make effort and study with us, we can offer some extra lessons for you.

Ioanna Thalassinou: I just completed the Japan language factory Master course and it has been a very enjoyable and exciting experience. From knowing actuallly nothing in japanese I am now able to make an introduction of myself and hold a basic conversation with correct japanese pronouniacion. It was the perfect way to kickstart learning japanese and now I am even more excited and eager to keep learning. Thank you Shono San, Mai San and also Terumi San for your enthusiasm and motivating coaching in helping me set the basis for the achievement of my goal!
Response: Hi Ioanna san, Thank you so much for being with us and being a great student!! Please be proud of yourself, without living in Japan, visiting Japan, You prove yourself that you can speak Japanese!! Please visit Japan in the future with your lovely family!!

LingoClass - Learn Chinese / Japanese / Korean / Cantonese in London: what do users think?

Anne 'bam' Thomson: I absolutely love coming to my Beginner Level 1 Korean classes at LingoClass. I get really excited every week and even enjoy revision! As some one who has struggled to learn languages in the past I was skeptical about being able to pick up an Asian language as I’d often given up on languages that were considered easier in the past. But the environment is so relaxed and fun the information just goes in without me feeling like I’m working at all! Our teacher Grace is wonderful, really helps me to understand the language and culture in a way you really don’t get by learning online or from apps. I highly recommend LingoClass can’t wait to start Beginner Level 2. 선생님 감사합니다!
Response: Hello Anne, Glad you enjoyed the Korean classes with Grace ssaem! Thank you for choosing LingoClass. Wish you all the best and see you soon in the next level! Best, LingoClass Admin Team

Marianne Caers: I wanted to challenge myself by learning a new language and choosing LingoClass for my Korean lessons has absolutely been the right choice. The teacher (Grace) is amazing. She is passionate, patient and has an excellent understanding of how to teach a foreign language to novice learners. The lessons are well-structured, engaging and the perfect mixture of grammar, vocabulary and culture. But maybe, most importantly, I am having so much fun learning! I leave the lessons every week with a brain that is hungry for more.
Response: Hello Marianne, Thank you for choosing LingoClass. Glad you enjoyed the Korean classes with Grace ssaem! Wish you all the best! Best, LingoClass Admin Team

Carlotta Vorbeck: If you‘ve been thinking about giving learning Korean a go, do it!! I have really enjoyed the beginners course, our tutor Grace has created a really fun and relaxed environment and I always look forward to the sessions each week. Sometimes learning a new language can be overwhelming but you get eased into the contents, the pace is really good, and the course materials are great quality. I‘m excited to start the second course already!

I was able too meet wonderful people in my class and connected with them very well. And Hyoone seonsaengnim made the class very exciting and was fun to learn. Very enjoyable. I’m glad I was in that class with beautiful people. My confidence with people also improved thanks to them. I definitely can’t wait to come back for level 2. 감사합니다 !!!

Monica del Rosario: I’m about to finish my Beginner Level 1 Korean Class and I’m going to sign up for the next level! The program is very well distributed in time and I’m amazed at how much you can learn in six weeks. My teacher Grace made lessons easy to understand, pleasant and fun <3 At the same time, she’s always making sure that we all participate and that the lecture is learned by putting a lot of emphasis on the refresher week after week. I would 100% recommend, a time and money very well invested as you learn while having a good time!

Yuri-sensei is an amazing teacher, she explains things clearly, in a fun way, and is always very encouraging when we try our class exercises. I have loved this first module and really look forward to continuing with her - really highly recommended!

L C: I took their online course, where i got a private tutor. The tutor, 尚野口さん (Professor Nao) was a very friendly and courteous teacher, with very good English. The head teacher was also very helpful, although I forgot her name. I learned a lot and my Japanese has improved greatly. I understand a lot of basics and grammar now. Trying to understand Manga in Japanese has gotten easier, and listening to dialogue is not so complicated anymore. I hope to use them again in the future, as i enjoy the online classes. Makes me wish i lived in London. さくら大学、 ありがとうございます!

Daria Nepop: Very recommended! I have been doing private lessons for the past 6 months - each class is accompanied with a slideshow, well-explained and entertaining. I really enjoy the way lessons are structured and timed. Definitely can say tutors are putting a lot of effort and care into each class and know how to adapt to each student preferences whether it is emphasis on speaking/reading/writing! Thank you SakuraJapan I am happy that i decided to choose your school!

Bladymir Mendoza: They are amazing! Great communication and precise/detailed instruction is provided! They really go out of their way to accommodate you with the right lessons and instructor to fit your Japanese learning needs! Learning a new language is a great investment and you will not regret choosing this school to learn Japanese! I highly recommend them!

Trevor Dubois: SakuraJapan organised a really pleasant Japanese event about Nara at the British Museum :) I really enjoyed it and learned a lot about Japanese history and culture. I later booked lessons and am on my 20th lesson now. My teacher is nice and my Japanese is getting very good! These teachers work really hard and are really caring. I saw one bad review left here and I am surprised about this since I have had a nice experience and even referred one of my friends who also liked it. Anyway, check them out to find out for yourself. For my though this is a 5/5 school.

sumin lee: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueI am Korean and was recommend by my friend and really like it!! I was doing lessons at UCL office of this school. But now lockdown TT so doing online lessons. I completed my beginners courses! :DD Next going to do upper beginners :) Teachers are very sweet and nice girls. I feel friendly to them :))

Derek Yang: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, Valueexcellent Japanese teachers who are nice, friendly and so motivating! I studied for 1 year and improved my Japanese from beginner to intermediate! I will travel to Japan next autumn and look forward to trying out my new Japanese skills!

Created Content: I tried to take classes here online but the manager seems to never be prepared for anything she seems inept. And not only that she canceled lessons for me for two times in a row which cost me about two weeks of my time waiting. And she never prepared anything at the school you were probably only learn how to write hiragana and katakana I wouldn’t recommend this school at all. They also do not respond to request. For example I tried to sign up online via site and nobody answered

Lin Chen: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueI have lessons with them for over a year now, and feel the lessons are well designed and the tutor is very helpful.

Soas Language Centre: what do users think?

Jo T: Personally , I’ve only had good experiences at SOAS language centre ( Japanese ) and I feel a great deal of affection for the the university itself as I did my MA there some years ago . Admin at SOAS in general has always been a bit ropey , and particularly now with Covid making it almost impossible to communicate directly with someone it can be frustrating , but then speaking to friends at other institutions I can’t say they sound significantly better . I’m hoping in class lessons will resume for the Autumn term as I’m not keen on remote learning , online school with the kids was torture enough ! In all SOAS language language centre is a friendly , welcoming place with kind, dedicated teachers and I look to returning in the near future .

Asun Álvarez: I have taken Mandarin and Japanese classes online with Gao Hui and Hitomi Micallef and am extremely happy. (I hope they will keep the online courses in the future, as they are fantastic for those of us abroad). Highly recommended.

christian joubert: My experience studying at the language centre has been nothing short of fantastic. The teachers are very supportive and go to a great deal of effort to ensure that students are on top of the material. Highly recommended.

kathy harrison: It’s amazing how bad this place is. The teachers don’t take the class seriously and don’t bother to prepare anything. We made absolutely NO progress in 10 weeks. A complete waste of money. They do SO many things wrong, for example waaaay too much teacher speaking time, no pair or group work for students. I complained twice and was offered no compensation. Really terrible course and bad customer service. They don’t even bother to reply to emails. I had heard it was bad but it was a joke. I got a student discount and it still wasn’t worth it. This is for Chinese, maybe other languages are different. I gave up and went to UCL for Japanese, where the teacher is great.

Olivier P: The courses are currently online only and via video conference. It’s extremely hard to learn a new language via video conference so I would not recommend to anyone. Just watch video on youtube for free and it will work the same or even better as you wont have 20 people peoples talking together with really poor audio quality.

Ahmad El-ashaal: classes are enjoyable and interactive, i feel that my Arabic has come a long way since joining

Christopher Vickers: The Japanese diploma course was informative, thorough and well run by a dedicated and friendly group of tutors.

Japan House London: what do users think?

Jay S: If you are a lover of Japan and all things Japan, a visit to Japan House on High Street Kensington is a necessity. The large space has been re done and the modern designer avatar is amazing. The clean lines and white everything makes it the most soothing space on the rather busy high street. Upon entering you are welcomed by a stunning but very neat white colored cafe bar. Do try their matcha lattes, amongst the best in London. The Japan House also displays traditions crafts and items from Japan. In the basement, they have a library and an exhibition space. We saw the exhibition on traditional windows of Japan. And their evolution. A really nice space, everyone visiting High Street Ken must stop and wander at Japan House.
Response: Hi, Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a nice review and for recommending Japan House London. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your visit to our venue and we hope that you discovered more about Japanese culture and architecture while browsing through our Windowology exhibition. We hope to welcome you back to Japan House London again soon.

Ewelina M: An interesting center for Japanese crafts, niche brands and reads. They had the “Symbiosis” exhibition on display, which seemed like an interesting architectural/social initiative though the exhibition itself wasn’t that appealing. I enjoyed the reading room though, plenty of interesting books at your disposal.

Christina Palma: We had a 5 course dinner ,the quality of sushi were great they also have vegetarian option so that is very nice. The tempura in a hot stone was a bit boring, maybe the lamb was nice if you like lamb. My friend had a grilled mushroom in a hot stone and he said it was amazing! I think my favourite part was the matcha cake it was really super delicious.Service was good.

Tee Tong: Wonderful space arranged over three floors. It is open to the public and free to visit. The main street level area has a coffee bar and a mix of exhibits and products for sale. The first floor is a restaurant and bar. And the basement level is an exhibition space and micro library. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Response: Hi Tee, We are really happy to hear you had a five-star experience on your visit to our venue. We hope you learned something new about Japan and we look forward to welcoming you to Japan House London again soon.

Dr Jesica Mac Leod: Very friendly and full of interesting Japanese art, food and items for tea ceremonies and information for trips to Japan. The cafe is great and the shop too full of great sake and Japanese utensils. The downstairs exhibitions are always a must! The Olympic one was great and enjoyed it a lot

Amelie Vinall: Such a wonderful and calm shop. I recommend going to the exhibition underground first and then having a look in the shop, as the two always correspond. The workers were very friendly and talkative. It’s a department shop where you feel more calm and refreshed coming out of.

Ana Oro: Great place - not a huge variety but still lots of J-items. Friendly and helpful staff. From personal experience the store manager (Scott) went out of his way to assist with a product I was looking for. Nice little cafe with yummy treats. Bonus - free exhibition downstairs.

Tamara: A true inspiration to visit Japan 🇯🇵 they have Tourguides and maps of Tokyo. Akira restaurant on the top too expensive for what it provides though. Seating & work area downstairs. Matcha barista at the entry. Nice #fengshui #interior #design

Eréndira Derbez: Amazing place. With a library, restaurant, cafe, exhibition centre and shop it is a great place to visit. One of my favourite places for reading or working while having a tea in London.

Savvas: An absolutely wonderful experience - Makiko is such an amazing person and teacher! A great sushi making class for beginners, with delicious results. Would recommend to everyone visiting London!

The Rainmaker: I ordered the sashimi’s deluxe, the fish was so fresh and tasty 😋😋😋 staff was very friendly. Do get the Mochi ice cream for dessert, heaven! 😍

El Eleph: Visited Suzu House for the first time today and I got the california roll and salmon nigiri. The roll had good flavour and the nigiri was really fresh with a generous serving of salmon. I liked the food and will come here again but I wouldn’t rate this restaurant as one of best places for sushi.

Tamara Williams: One of the best evenings in London - such an amazing sushi-making class! Makiko is incredible - she has an amazing story, is funny and extremely skilled and knowledgeable. The experience was relaxing and fun, as well as very authentic. The sushi was also amazing - so tasty! My partner has lived in Japan and the class made him feel like he was back there! I can’t wait to come back and try Makiko’s other classes!

Mariella Busuttil-Fardell: Visited this place with my 13 year old son for a sushi class. Makiko was an amazing teacher, very patient and knowledgeable. We made 4 types of sushi and we were taught how to make it and eat it the Japanese way. Would definitely recommend.
Response: Thank you for coming! Nice to meet you both!

Andrew Collins: Guys, this place is very good. It’s very reasonably priced too.The Katsu chicken curry was perfect and there’s a great selection of sushi. Free refills on your green or jasmine tea.Recommended dishes Chicken Katsu Curry …More

Natalie: An excellent sushi making class with MakikoDelicious food at the end. Overall a unique experience. Highly recommended

Bhagyashri Joshi: High five to Chef Reiko Hashimoto! We went for a Sushi & Sashimi class last year. It was a birthday gift for my partner. We loved it! Reiko is a brilliant teacher. Class is conducted at Reiko’s home kitchen which makes the experience more intimate and comfortable. She explains the steps and process very well, though be prepared to be put on the spot to display your culinary skills while the Chef will expect you to keep up with her pace 😄. You will leave the class having learned and practiced the basics, knowledge of important ingredients and what-not-to-dos. It is an intriguing 4 hour experience which ends in all students having lunch with Chef Reiko, each having their own hand made sushi & sashimi. Highly recommended!!

Andre Malta: Amazing Sushi and Sashimi class with Chef Reiko Hashimoto . Really good atmosphere, well explained and executed course. If you want to learn the art of Sushi this is the place to go.

Mohamed Elnimer: No words can ever thank you enough for such an amazing experience. I went with my daughter for a daddy-daughter sushi making class. I knew it was a very special class the minute I walked in. The whole atmosphere was very professional. It was like being transported into an authentic Japanese house. We started our session with some background information on Japanese food traditions and then started moving on to food hygiene preparation etiquette and this all led to the whole experience being very authentic, my daughter couldn’t believe she actually left knowing how to make sushi professionally. After preparing all our sushi rolls with full guidance from Reiko, we were then invited to all sit down on a professionally laid out table with all our our sushi, Mizu soup, condiments, freshly grated Wasabi and some saki. When all this was done, we had a pleasant surprise of home-made Matcha ice cream ending the four hour session. Reiko give us a personalised gift, her first published book and some beginner sushi roll making kit which made us feel the money paid was well, well worth it. I highly recommend the sushi experience as you will not be disappointed.

sky chia: We took an online class with Hashi Cooking and learnt how to make 3 different dishes. It was such a great experience and although we had never cooked Japanese food before, it tasted delicious because of the helpful and detailed lesson from Hashi Cooking. The class was conducted online, but the setup was great. We could see exactly how to do things and we could show our food in production if we had any questions. Fabulous class and I recommend to anyone. Thank you so much!

Chris Ayton: Fantastic sushi and sashimi course. Had never made sushi before but learned how to make various rolls, nigiri and miso soup as sashimi technique in fun and relaxed setting. Highly recommend.

Matthew Pugh: Such an amazing cookery course. Reiko was very knowledgeable and certainly knows her stuff. We did a private class, and made a variety of dishes, all of which were very tasty. Would recommend to anybody wishing to learn japanese food

Khoi Nghiem: Positive: Communication, Professionalism, Quality, ValueWhat a wonderful night. Reiko is such a lovely host and a very talented teacher and a great communicator. The class was really fun and of course the food was delicious! Thank you Reiko, really enjoyed the Ramen & Gyoza course. Will definitely be signing up for your other courses.

olka1408: I started Italian class this May. I really really enjoy it. The class has a good amount of people to work in pairs but not to much to not be able to follow/be heard when needed. Started with level one and will definitely continue. The teacher- Erica is great, very helpful, you just enjoy learning new language :)
Response: Hi Olka, Thank you for your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you've enjoyed your Beginner course with Erica so much. We look forward to seeing you in the next Level 2 class! Best wishes, IH London

Maria A: I took my computer based IELTS Test last week and I must say that I had a really nice experience considering how nervous I was. The center was very clean and well maintained. The staff was professional and very helpful answering my questions before and after the test. Thank you IH! :)
Response: We're happy to hear you had such a nice experience with us Maria!

Jeffery Bezos: Don’t select this centre for your ielts exam. -Terrible facilities, during the listening test, the volume was lower like babbling, the examiner rejected to turn the volume higher - the speaking test examiner was in rush, they asked questions SUPER FAST , they didn’t care if you caught them or not, it was like QUICK Q&A exam instead of normal conversation test. ridiculous!
Response: Dear Jeffery, Thank you for informing us of your test day experience. We are sorry to hear that the day did not go as planned. It sounds like have taken an IELTS exam with the British Council, who often use the IH London building as a venue. Wail. SA: I have not heard about the institute, but beautiful comments. This is not my opinion Greetings, I just ask for help. I applied to the institute with a request to join starting from 10/1/2023 - and I would like to help me obtain student housing close to the institute. For those who have experience in that, send me the links and the address - I will be grateful to you

Mobile Gamer: Sorry but I can not understand why you doing this. For IELTS exams the rooms are like -20 degree. They turning the AC on for full power. I get cold in August can you believe that? Thats why I did another test for second time and I paid extra.

Response: Thank you Allan! We're happy you had such a positive experience with us.

Nita Thapa: Just wanted to mention that they don’t value the time of examinee at all. They scheduled two candidates for the same time for speaking and completely ignorant. They made us wait more than an hour to attend exam which is not what candidates expect on a test day.Disappointed!
Response: Hi Nita, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you've had a negative experience with us. If you would like to discuss the matter further, then please feel free to contact us via info@ihlondon.com. Best wishes, IH London

Magda Brzdąk: I love this place! They have good selection of Japanese food, some fresh fish and meat too. I also think their sushi is my favourite ever! Also, if you’re a Little Moons fan, they have so many different flavours, and sell them individually!
Response: Hi Magda, Thank you for visiting us and for your lovely review. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Helen Bui: Such a great place to visit in Central London! It’s a grocery store, hot food and sushi centre with a little corner of books, beauty, etc. The amount of fresh fish available makes it even better as there’s such a big variety. I would highly recommend as you will most likely end up buying something. We found a cute 1000 pieces puzzle which is now mine and my boyfriends hobby for the next few months.
Response: Hi Helen, Thank you for your lovely review, we are so glad you like our store and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind regards, AT

Samuel Leung: The Japan Centre near Piccadilly Circus offers an excellent range of Japanese food and products. The food hall may be small but is very authentic, has a great atmosphere and very family friendly. The supermarket has all sorts of ramens and instant noodles so make sure you bring with you some large shopping bags.

Puiman Chan: IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! This place is perfect for those who love Japanese food, there is such a big variety of authentic Japanese food, drinks, snacks, ingredients and other stuff. You can go there to shop for Japanese ingredients or you can go there for lunch and have a look at their big range of fresh bento boxes and sushi!

Ming You see: Passable Japanese food. I did think the sukiyaki rice was decent though. Otherwise a good place to pick up some convenient yet slightly overpriced Japanese groceries. Ramen was so so not great. Could do with a bit more taste. Meals are ready quick.

Cain Hands: WARNING! Non vegan items labelled as vegan ( as seen in my pictures ), which may be obvious if you actually take the time to look at what you’re buying but it’s a real let down by the staff and a potential fatality waiting to happen. Prices seem a little high but it’s imported a lot so that makes sense, it has a nice lay out and some fun items otherwise. Sort out the worrying labelling and the stars will go up.
Response: Hi Cain, Thank you for your review. We can confirm that the aonori avocado roll is one of our vegan sushi rolls, our staff are happy to help you with any questions you may have regarding our products. Many thanks, AT

Sayaka S: Great Japanese super market with lots of food option. Honestly the hot food I got (sukiyaki bowl) was terrible but other food looked great. It’s good spot to stop by for quick shopping for sure.

Jamie E: I will return, the food was outstanding and great value for money. The restaurant really has a great authentic feel. You really get a feel for the izakaya atmosphere. But one thing that needs to be addressed is the poor service, 4 people on the floor in a place that was less than 50% full and the service was very bad. Repeatedly I had to ask where was my drink? This was over 30 mins and it took me to prompt them to get the drink. Hopefully this will be addressed when I visit in future. I still recommend this place and would give it 5 if the service was better.

J ANNA: Long time no visit here. The moved location :) looks modern decoration and more choice of foods. We tried hot food as ramen, tasty and price was reasonable. And they have wagyu and sashimi section. Lots of choice of sushi 🍣 we will try next time for other foods. Staff are generally friendly and students can get 10% which is good option😇😇

Avinash Bhogun: A delicious ramen spot in the heart of the city. Found accidentally via Haymarket theatres so we ventured in. Good service and good vegan options including melon soda iced cream. You can order and pay via the app but we decided against this and the friendly staff served us and we paid accordingly. Felt like good authentic ramen and worth checking out.
