The Goodlife Centre: what do users think?

Jenny D: If you are thinking of taking the ‘DIY in a day - drills’ class, do it! I was really looking forward to learning about and feeling more confident in using my electric drill, in this course. That said, I really hadn’t expected to learn as much and to feel so confident in all things drill-related, as I did, by the end of the day. Nor did I expect to enjoy the day so thoroughly.Moira has such a natural way of imparting information, with real warmth, patience and humour, putting everyone at ease and ensuring you get the most out of the class.I am so much more confident and capable of tackling my many home DIY projects now.Thank you so much, Moira!

SAVIOUR EMMANUEL: As an ardent and impassioned amateur woodworker, I recently relished the opportunity to partake in the enriching ambiance of The Goodlife Centre, a distinguished trade school nestled within the heart of London. The encounter at this esteemed establishment bestowed upon me a profound sense of inspiration and empowerment, propelling me along a transformative odyssey of learning and boundless creativity. The Goodlife Centre stands as a beacon of excellence, offering an extensive repertoire of woodworking courses meticulously tailored to cater to enthusiasts of all proficiencies. Whether one finds oneself at the genesis of their woodworking expedition or boasts a modicum of prior experience, there exists a course perfectly suited to their unique aspirations. Guiding these seekers of mastery are seasoned instructors, adept in their craft, who manifest a remarkable reservoir of knowledge and expertise, thus engendering a nurturing atmosphere conducive to unfettered growth and personal triumph.Among the many superlative qualities inherent to The Goodlife Centre, its unwavering dedication to hands-on education shines as a preeminent facet. The courses themselves, meticulously structured to underscore practical experience and dynamic involvement, whisk eager students into an immersive realm of woodworking artistry. From the inaugural session, I found myself enmeshed within the rich tapestry of woodworking, acquiring invaluable skills through the auspices of guided practice and pedagogical projects that underscored learning by doing. The mentors gracing the halls of The Goodlife Centre transcend their roles as mere craftsmen, donning the mantle of consummate educators. Their proficiency in breaking down the most intricate of concepts into digestible morsels of comprehension bespeaks a rarefied talent for demystification. With infinite patience, they deftly shepherd their pupils along each intricate step of the woodworking process, their fervor for the craft coursing through their veins, and their unwavering commitment to cultivating an environment of support and camaraderie reverberating through their every action. The facilities housed within The Goodlife Centre represent a veritable haven, replete with state-of-the-art equipment and an abundance of space in which burgeoning woodworkers may joyously flourish. The workshops dedicated to the art form serve as an expansive canvas upon which students may unfurl their talents and breathe life into their creative visions. Moreover, the institution's unyielding emphasis on safety is indeed laudable, as instructors steadfastly ensure that all participants adhere unwaveringly to the most stringent protocols safeguarding their well-being.Beyond the realm of technicalities, The Goodlife Centre forges an unbreakable sense of community among its students. Group projects, ever-present throughout the courses, engender an atmosphere of collaborative synergy, wherein the exchange of ideas thrives unimpeded. This communal bond, forged amidst shared experiences and trials, endows budding woodworkers with a supportive network, facilitating personal growth and sparking the fires of inspiration through interaction with like-minded artisans. While The Goodlife Centre stands resolute in its provision of a profoundly enriching woodworking education, it would undoubtedly benefit from an expansion of its course catalogue, encompassing a pantheon of advanced techniques and specialized facets of the craft. Such diversification would furnish students with an avenue through which they may broaden their skill sets and delve deeper into their individual areas of interest within the resplendent tapestry of woodworking.

Susan G: I did the one-day Painting and Decorating course - it was fantastic. Tutor Moira was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, the group was not too large to we had plenty of opportunity to have questions answered. Natasha Sharda: I went on the basic drilling course. The centre was really easy to find from London Bridge Station. I enrolled for the half day course to help me become more independent with DIY around the house and this was perfect for that. I wish I had done this course years ago!

Alex Horn: Fantastic basket making course with John.

Daniel Glass: Fantastic city centre life skills and workshop training courses. Really enjoyed the one day woodcarving course. Would definitely recommend

Ragedun: I can finally get on with the housework i need to do.I am not so scared to tackle jobs around the house and thank you for letting me take my son with me as he wants to know when the next course is he thoroughly enjoyed it.

Tom Trimmins Woodwork: what do users think?

michaela giebelhausen: Tom is a brilliant teacher. Super patient, knowledgeable and passionate about your project. He always offers several solutions to any making conundrum and is keen to introduce you to new tools and techniques. His workshop is a fantastic woodworking haven. Can’t wait to go back for more making.

Paul Beaty-Pownall: A great course. Perfect for improving yor woodworking skills from what ever level you are starting from.

Tracey Wright: I really enjoyed Tom's steam bending class. We made lovely oval boxes, that look amazing. A well thought out project by Tom with lots walnut prepared ready for bending.Great mix of teaching, history, wood chat and practice. Thanks Tom. Another winner of a class.

Alun Meredith: Had an excellent time on the half day wood working course. Tom showed is very passionate about the topic and the small number of people meant a personal experience.

Peter Pearse: and, perhaps most important, super-friendly.

Tom Jam: Really informative and fun with something great to take home and treasure for years to come.

Louis Ko: Fantastic joinery course. Tom is skilled in guiding you through projects with assured knowledge and light humour. Despite my tendency to slip into the red mist of a neurotic chiselling episode, he would gently bring me back into the room with reminders that woodwork should be fun. And fun it was indeed.

Douglas G: Brilliant Joinery Course! Tom is highly knowledgable and passionate about wood and woodworking tools. He shares his passion in a relaxed setting with just a few students. We managed to make some really cool and useful things in the sessions we had.

J B: I had a great time on a course making a stool for Christmas. I’d highly recommend Tom as a teacher - I’ll definitely be going back again.

hernan iannello: Great learning experience

meena venkatachalam: Just finished my milking stool class with Tom and it was just as great as the others! It’s a good challenge vs. steam oval box/joinery. I’m very new to wood working and found it to be a great class to lean and follow along. Tom is a fantastic teacher and has the patience of a saint!

Alan You: Joinery course was really enjoyable, teaching skills I intend to use on future projects, really useful course for absolute beginners and anyone looking to develop their woodwork skills, Tom is a very relaxed and patient teacher, would highly recommend

Edward Pepper: very enjoyable!

Max Johnson: Great day, great gift idea, would highly recommend to everyone!

New School of Furniture Making: what do users think?

kay parnell: She was really brilliant at sharing her knowledge and experience to help guide us all through the tricky process of hand-making furniture, and thanks to her we all managed to make something we were all proud of taking home to show the family!Really lovely space to learn in, and both Emma and Rhiannon are great people to learn from. Highly recommended.

Dominique Jones: Highly recommend. Emma is brilliant!

Rachael Hunt: I surprised myself by making a beautiful letter tray. Emma is such a great teacher, really relaxed atmosphere, helpful and attentive. I'd never done woodwork before and she made everything easy to understand and inspired confidence. Brilliant.

Jari Vipele: . Definitely would recommend.

RosesFor Ashley: I am delighted with my handcrafted timber chair. Emma and Rhiannon at Studio LW understood my brief and created a beautiful chair beyond any expectation. They were great to work with and I can highly recommend Studio LW onto anyone wanting a unique and handcrafted commission.

Cheryl Mattey: I am massively proud to say that I was at one time Emma's, Rhiannon's and Matthew's teacher and can personally vouch for their work having been among the very finest the UK has to offer. These were award-winning students who have gone from strength to strength since, and this is as it should be.Get on it while you still can !

Mike Taylor: Japanese bench making course was terrific use of a weekend, and not a screen or pint in sight! Proper hands on and I'm very pleased with the result - it's a useful output for sure. I had no experience of woodwork since school and this was a good way to get back to it while making something useful - although all-in it's a wee bit pricey considering the instruction you actually get for your money. Having said that, it's enough to make you think you can probably do a lot by self-teaching and while it could be cheaper it's still great value compared to many other ways to sink a few hundred pounds!

The London School of Furniture Making: what do users think?

Stuart Marsh: I've now done 2 course with LSFM - Core Skills 1 and Dovetail Weekender. Both have been really well run and the equipment and knowledge of both Helen and Sam is amazing. Good sound practical advice and lots of great little tips and tricks. Thanks guys.

Rebecca Harrington: Had a brilliant time on the introduction taster course with Sam today. Absolutely lovely guy and super knowledgeable! Thanks for a fantastic time. Made for an excellent belated Christmas present!

Jack Dumfries: Exceptional, magical, educational and most importantly.....FUN!

Alex Coady: I recently took the 4 day joinery course with Helen and had such a great week learning how to create various joints and use a bunch of woodworking tools.I'm usually very quiet and awkward in groups of new people but Helen was so welcoming and friendly that I didn't think about anything other than having fun and getting stuck in for the whole time I was there.I'd fully recommend the school and will be coming back for a future course myself very soon!

Harald Haugan: Did the core skills, fitted furniture course, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sam was a brilliant instructor, and the venue was great too. Will definitely be back for more courses in the future!

The Raging Bajan: Did the 4 day joinery class. Sam is a great and patient instructor, and a great environment is provided to learn necessary skills. Definitely recommend

Scott Rowland: great experience. took the introduction to woodworking with Helen and learned a lot, whilst having fun! Definitely interested in another course.

Sean O' Flynn: Great teacher!

Geraldine McCarthy: Really enjoyed the course, practical, fun, great tutor. As a total beginner the course hit the right balance for me.

Tom Shooter: So many great courses, so many things to try your hand at, and Helen is a brilliant teacher- there’s nothing she doesn’t know about the ins and outs of furniture making. Really well equipped workshop, friendly atmosphere and you will learn so much. Very highly recommend!

t i m c: I attended the CORE SKILLS: Joinery Level 1It was part for the love of wood and a desire to learn how to make something physical in this digital world and part therapy. The physical world is much harder than using a keyboard. I've never been so tired.Helen was our teacher this week. She was welcoming and friendly. She knew her subject and was passionate about it. She was able to keep us all in check and explained what to, how to do and what we did wrong - always prepared to help and provide guidance when required. She could hear mistakes being made from 50m away and wasn't afraid to tell you - a good thing as you learnt from those mistakes.I met a friendly group of people whilst on the course and everyone helped everyone else.I am motivated to do more and have already signed up for the dove tail course later in the year. The courses here cover all aspects of carpentry. The facilities were good and all equipment was provided and was of a good standard.Thank you.

David Craig: Attended the 2 day dovetail course, really enjoyed it. Great company, teaching and relaxed, informative pace. Really enjoyed it.

Claudia Toma: I recently attended the Core Skills: Understanding Wood with a group of colleagues. We had a fantastic few days with Helen, who was great fun and really informative. The course itself was a nice balance of theory, practical and visits to specialist suppliers/makers. We all work with timber to varying degrees, so had some knowledge of the material and working with it, but wanted to start filling in the gaps in our knowledge - this course did just that! We're all more confident in our ability to identify timbers, and left with a good understanding of the structure and properties. We hope to come back and complete one of the other core skills courses next year. Thank you Helen!
