Henry Pordes Books Ltd: what do users think?

Jodi M.: , but for the charm it couldn't be beaten. The cute elderly woman at the counter seemed really happy when we paid with a 20 pound note instead of a card.

Y Le: Beautiful bookstores with lots of editions

darren hogben: Absolutely the best book shop in London, so many rare books and wonderful knowledgeable staff too.

Yubri: Excellent bookstore, very cutting edge in old books and rare books.Harry Potter books from first impressions for very expert and exquisite collectors. Authentic jewels that are worth contemplating!!!In London it is already difficult to find a good Harry Potter book for your collection and... here they are, at Henry Pordes Books LTD.They care about getting the best of the best.AMAZING HARRY POTTER BOOKS!!!

Sergio Lorenzi: My book paradise when in London.

Bilal Bilal: Great collection of art

Richard Boon: Probably my favourite bookstore in all of London. Amazing collection of old and rare books that goes quite a bit beyond what you will find in most other similar shops. Prices can get high but as far as I can see they are always fair. And the store itself is always enjoyable to visit. When I am in London this is a guaranteed stopover for me.

Alessandro Marrai (Alexis): My husband was looking for a first edition copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Walking in the rain we came across the window of this bookshop by pure chance and right there, on a pile of books, there was exactly what we were looking for: a copy of the Philosopher's Stone in excellent condition. A wonderful coincidence! The editions of other famous titles on sale are also very beautiful. The guys inside were also very friendly. A place to return to on our next trip to London.

Joanna A: Incredibly friendly

dave gumbrell: The shop is a haven for collectors and offers many rare books at fair prices. I made a small A&C Black purchase on 28 Sept and was treated very well. My main reason for posting is that I was witness to the consternation in the shop that the previous review caused and felt almost obliged to redress the balance.

Peter Yoo: There are many books that look interesting. I have to come again

Sheikha 00: Loved it! Wished it was a little more categorized and a little less expensive but overall great place and definitely worth a visit!

Tom: Whenever I'm in London I always make sure to visit Henry Pordes Books. They have a wide selection of antiquarian and collectable modern firsts. As a collector I always find something I'd like that is competitively priced. Highly recommended

Lipsa Nayak: Henry Pordes Bookstore is a captivating literary haven in London. The quaint store offers an eclectic collection of books to explore. The knowledgeable staff provides excellent recommendations, and the cozy ambiance makes it perfect for leisurely browsing. Whether you seek rare editions or bestsellers, this hidden gem is a must-visit for all book enthusiasts! 📚📖

Rob Mallows: publisher's leather-bound version of Len Deighton's Berlin Game, by Alfred E. Knopf of the US. The item arrived today and it is exactly as it is described in the company's description on the ABE Books website, and I am very pleased with it. Angus Robb contacted me straight after the process and kept me informed about each stage of the sale and delivery, and I did feel reassured that I was purchasing from a proper bibliophile and dealer, rather than just a seller of old books. Once this lockdown is over, I would be keen to visit the actual store.

Learned so much in a short time, would love to spend more time there. And made to feel very welcome by the impressively knowledgeable and informative staff who were accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend a visit!

Mark Vine: I have just received a beautiful copy of Edward Ardizzone’s HansAndersen ‘Fourteen Classic Tales’ first published in 1978 by AndreDeutsch and in hardback. Illustrated front and rear endpapers the book contains b/w illustrations throughout along with 16 full colour full pageIl;lustrations. This was to be Ardizzone’s last wor, he died before it was published. I am grateful to Sotheran’s for making an inert transparentMelinex/Mylar wrapper around the outside cover and over the dustwrapper inside the book thus ensuring its future protection. Sotheran’s produce online and printed catalogues. I chose this title from their online catalogue, placed my order online and received my book very well wrapped to ensure its protection during transit by post 24 hours later. Sotheran’s really are a nice company to do business with.

Les Ashton: They offer a great friendly service … recommended

Penelope Percy: Sotheran's is a joy. The staff is knowledgeable, good humored, and helpful, and the stock is a treasure trove for book collectors. My family has been buying from them since 1960. Every book we've bought from Sotheran's is exactly as described and arrives in perfect shape within four layers of wrapping. Their occasional newsletter is a day brightener. Our thanks to everyone there.

Laura Passic: Great shop and helpful employees. We went in just to browse out of curiosity after seeing the storefront, and came out with a watercolor print and a luggage label from the 1930s. It’s one of those places that has a variety of well displayed and researched treasures, something for everyone.

John Hughes: Never been here, never been to London. But it has the best rare book Twitter. So 5/5.

Bryars & Bryars: what do users think?

Prajval Jhunjhunwala: Mr. Bryars is just incredible, even just to chat! Very worth for any bibliophile.

Iain Wakil: Outstanding knowledge of books and maps with a great selection!

Roderick Throgmorton: Tim is a true bibliophile taking the time to feed this novice bibliophile’s love for all things printed. Each time I visit London I make it a point to go on book hunts and this will be a shop I visit on all subsequent visits. Visit this store, tell Tim what you collect or what you do, and he’ll have something for you.

Tony APA: Fabulous, amazing...especially if you are into antique books...expect to see a wide range of topics represented, but on our last visit picked up a couple of books printed in the 17th century. We make a point of going there everytime we are in London.

ramadass selvakumar: I’m so glad that on my last day in London I decided to visit this shop together with my son. We were very pleasantly surprised by the way Tim explained everything in detail that I needed to know about the map of Asia which I had purchased from him. He is very knowledgeable, warm and made us feel very welcome in his shop. I am very happy with my purchase and certainly will pay him a visit again. I would highly recommend this shop.

Graham Lovell: I have only visited this wonderful establishment twice. And on both occasions found Tim to be the kindest, most friendly and interesting individual to offer up his wealth of knowledge on both maps and books. His enthusiasm for his trade is equalled by his enthusiasm to pass on knowledge and interest. If you like old maps and books this is the finest place in London. If you like a good ol' chat with someone that greets you as an old friend, this is again the finest place in London. For me this fine shop is 'chicken soup for the soul'. I cannot wait to return.

Yusuf Güngör: The best book shop that I have ever visited. The owner was extreamly helpful and even gave me a print for free with the purchase of my book. Thank you so much!

Tash Shan: What an absolute delight of a shop!Tim Bryars is warm, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about historical prints. I ummed and aahed over a purchase for a few weeks and Tim was always patient and helpful. His passion and interest in old maps and books is infectious. This is exactly the kind of small business that I love supporting.

Blake Kemmis: Shop owner was fantastic and the store had a wonderful collection of rare books and maps.

Tim Bryars: I'm not THE Tim Bryars, just someone with the same name. Visited Tim some years ago to discuss our genealogy. What a lovely bloke!! Polite, knowledgable, enthusiastic and helpful. Of course I'm giving him 5 stars!!

John Cockcroft: Vast collection and wealth of knowledge. Worth a visit.

Alex Roberts: Came into this shop on a whim to buy a present for a map aficionado. This shop has an amazing collection of maps, books and railway memorabilia dating back as far as the 1500s. Tim the proprietor was knowledgeable, friendly and was more than happy to explain the maps and their significance in great detail, you can tell that maps are his passion and he clearly enjoys sharing this with others.Definitely worth a visit if you have any interest at all in historic maps or books.

Alex McRae: who was delightfully friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back in future!

Matt Matt: has a review of 4.9 which should be a solid 6 out of 5. Never met anyone with that "down to earth" pureness, knowledge, patience and dedication when it comes to rare books and maps. A must visit to either online or in-store.

Tentacle Google Account: Welcoming and very knowledgeable staff.

Matthew Dodd: I have bought books and tube maps / posters from Tim. I can attest this is the best map shop in London and the UK plus a very very good bookshop owned by a very knowledgeable and sympathetic owner. Thanks!
