The Drum Academy: what do users think?
Cptjackparrot Parrot: Richards is a fantastically knowledgeable and experienced drum teacher. He is versatile in all styles of drumming and has a great ear for developing lessons based on your practice. He goes out of his way to help you grow and become the drummer you want to be.I can't rate him enough. If your searching for a drum teacher then, look know further, he's right here. You won't be disappointed.
Joe Hopkinson: Great place to learn the drums in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. I've been drumming for over 15 years on and off and this is by far the best place I've been for lessons.
Claudia Lancey: I've been coming here since starting as a beginner a couple of years ago, and have loved it. Richard is a great teacher, and clearly passionate about drumming. He helps you develop techniques through playing fun stuff rather than monotonous exercises, so you end up learning a lot without it feeling like work. You can take it at a pace that suits you, and it doesn't matter if you don't have your own kit (I don't, yet). I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who's considering learning the drums!
Mione Shelley: Richard is a fantastic Drum tutor. He really is an expert in drumming. He was able to help me improve my drumming and develop a more natural drumming style. lessons were always informative and in a relaxed environment that made learning much easier. Would highly recommend :)
Petal S: I’ve been having lessons for 3 years and have really enjoyed the experience! I would 100% recommend The Drum Academy if you are looking for affordable, fun and informative lessons
David Boon: I would recommend the Drum Academy. I started drumming at age 46 thinking that I had left it too late but have thoroughly enjoyed over 9 years of lessons covering a whole range of drumming styles. Richard teaches very flexibly and will help with whatever you want to do whether it is exam based or, like me, just for fun and the challenge of learning something new.

Dye House Drum Works: what do users think?
stella allan: All good, thank you Lee!
Gretel Stonebridge: Best drum lessons in Leicester
Andy Gratrix: What can I say about the Dye House Drum Works?I started going in February 2016. As ‘a more mature’ student I was quite apprehensive about taking on learning an instrument I last played properly when I was 18. I needn’t have worried.Lee is extremely welcoming and makes you feel right at home. Not only is he a brilliant drummer he is also an excellent teacher. Something I think that is evidenced by the broad range of ages and abilities that learn at the Drum Works. He follows the Rock School syllabus, which from my perspective is fantastic. The Rock School course provide a progressive and structured way to learn the drums; always challenging but never daunting. Thanks to Lee’s teaching I have already passed one exam with a ‘distinction’ and I am soon to take my next.So no matter what age you are, if you are looking for a fantastic drum teacher, based in a great location with brilliant facilities, look no further than the Dye House Drum Works.
Issac Aber-Arthur: Am looking for drum to buy for a church,,I leave in northampton,I will come there one of this days,,
Chris Genol: A great place to get better at the drums due to the fantastic tuition given by Lee Allatson.
Tony Norris: I recently needed to purchase a new cymbal to replace a trusty, thirty-year-old, road-worn crash. After checking online, I went on to see Lee at Dye House Drum Works and we talked cymbals.Lee was keen to help me choose a cymbal that a/ was what I wanted, b/ would do what I needed it to do and c/ was within my budget. Although I had done a great deal of research and had found a few options, I wanted a professional opinion before I forked out. Lee’s knowledge and enthusiasm made my choice easy and I went on the buy, not one, but two new cymbals; a Sabian 17”AXX Studio Crash and a Sabian 20”AXX Ozone Crash.I’m delighted with them both.Investing in new kit is always both exciting and nerve-wracking - it’s so important to make wise choices. Lee’s experience and honest views played a big part in my decision-making and he was as excited as I was when my new kit arrived.I have no hesitation in recommending Lee at Dye House Drum Works based at Quad Studios in Leicester for all things drums!
Mark McDermott: I've known Lee for over 20 years, both as a player and in the retail side of drums. He has always been very helpful, supportive, trusting and keen. If he hasn't got it, he'll get if for you - and quick! It's great to see he has such a professional studio in the heart of Leicester and what's more - the ONLY dedicated drum sales department in the area!If you're thinking of trying out drums for the first time, or you're in need of some new kit - go to Lee. You won't be disappointed.
Huw Beynon: I had weekly lessons with Lee between the ages of 8-18, and only stopped because I moved away to London. It's obvious to me, looking back over that time, that the quality of teaching that Lee has to offer is of the absolute highest standard, as he caters to every student's need, age and ability to give them the best learning experience possible. Throughout the 10 years of lessons, not once can I remember leaving feeling that I hadn't learnt enough from the lesson, or hadn't got enough to work on over the coming week.Although I did all the Rockschool grades, we also found time to work through songs that I wanted to go through, varying from complex progressive rock, to laid back jazz, to tight funk, and all styles in between. Everything was taught to the highest standard. Lee seems to have an infinite knowledge of all things musical, and will always endeavour to give you a working knowledge of how to play the drum kit musically, suitably and individually.Add to all this the fantastic facilities and environment that DHDW has built up over the past few years, including a shop kitted out with drummer essentials such as sticks and heads, quality cymbals, full drum kits of varying ranges and prices and a nice selection of snare drums, then arguably this is has to be one of the best setups in the East Midlands, if not the UK.
Doug Jenkinson: Although technically I am writing this from the viewpoint of being an ex-student of Lee's, I now count him as a colleague and a friend. All of which, I am extremely proud. In my capacity as a professional drummer, musician, and teacher my review would be no different.Lee has been responsible for some of Leicester's finest drummers and musicians, his influence as a teacher, mentor, musician and all round good egg can be spotted all over the Leicester music scene. His dedication to learning/teaching has been outstanding, I still have my handwritten manuscripts from my drum lessons with him from (ahem... we wont talk about dates) - they are still relevant and I still refer to them with my own teaching and technique. I remember my first lesson with fondness and affection, and the day I first crossed Lee's path has completely shaped my career and life. His experience in retail and teaching has made the DHDW an inevitable venture that will certainly be successful.Lee's relaxed approach will make EVERY student that walks through the door welcome and want to learn, getting the best support with a lovely environment to develop in.Lee's retail and product knowledge will ensure his shop will be stocked with excellent essential equipment to meet the needs of any drummer who is taking the role seriously. (he'll give ace advice too)Overall, I couldn't recommend this whole package of teaching/learning/retail highly enough.Every drummer who wants good guidance and support should certainly check this facility out.
Sam Brownlow: In my opinion, Dye House Drum Works is one of the best places to study in Leicester. With a location not too far from the centre, great facilities such as up-to-date drum kits, a drum store for all your drumming needs, and a relaxed, friendly environment to learn in.I have studied with Lee for about 5 years now, and each lesson I have with him I have enjoyed and can take something new from it. A great variety of lessons are available, from grade work to nailing that groove from your favourite song. Lee has been a brilliantly inspiring tutor over the years, I don’t think I could ask for anything better! :)
Andy Siddons: Lee @ DHDW was very helpful, he is very Knowledgeable about his products and drums in general. He has a good range of products and anything he hasn't got in stock he'll do his best to get in for you.I went to check out some hi-hats and he lined them all up on stands ready for me to try, nothing's to much bother, a great shop which I'll be definately using again.Definately give them a try!!
Siobhan McIntosh: I can't think of a better place to learn to play the drums or a better person to be taught by!The environment is relaxed so learning to play is enjoyable and having the shop to hand is ideal as you know you're getting quality gear at a great price.Having Lee as a tutor also means you learn how to be a drummer that understands the roles of other musicians too, rather than becoming a "bedroom drummer."There is plenty of flexibility during lessons where you can concentrate on grades, or favourite songs, or experimenting with the kit, and so on.With 7 years of lessons, I finished every one of them knowing I'd learnt something new. That is money well spent :)
Sarah Miles: The Dye House Drum Works took me from complete novice to grade 6 within 2 years. Under Lee's expert tuition I was able to develop key technical abilities and a sound understanding of music composition and tempo. Lee also taught me how to practice smartly by listening and dissecting music giving me the ability to learn drum accompaniments on my own.The Dye House Drum Works was an great place to gain confidence make new friends and meet fellow drummers. It's also an awesome building. Can't recommend it enough!
