User FAQs

Visitors can expect to see a variety of wetland wildlife, including wildfowl and waders on migration. The reserve is located near the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, making it a prime spot for birdwatching.

The Visitor Centre is open from March to October from 10am to 4pm, and from November to February from 10am to 3.30pm during Reserve opening hours.

There are picknick tables and seats for visitors to enjoy, as well as a lovely cafe and toilets. The Visitor Centre also has a tea shop with nice views, where visitors can pay what they want for their teas, coffees, and cakes.

Visitors have reported sightings of a Barn Owl hovering at the reserve, as well as a little owl in the Manager's Garden and a peregrine perched on a nearby pylon. There are also harvest mice in the visitor centre that have been described as off-the-chart cute.

Families with children have had a great experience at the reserve, with kids loving the peaceful atmosphere and wildlife sightings. The paved walk is ideal for toddlers and prams, and there are plenty of opportunities for birdwatching and nature observation.
