Woodhouse Leeds Tai Chi, Yoga, Meditation and Kung Fu: what do users think?

Geoff Raw: Lishi Tai Chi Leeds is great. Extremely experienced and knowledgeable instructors. If you want to really learn about the philosophy and art of Tai Chi in a friendly and welcoming environment this is the place to go.

Charlotte Beall: Amazing first experience at Leeds Tai Chi. The class was so welcoming. Lots of engagement with other members of the group and understanding what energy feels like. I leave the class on a Monday like a whole new person. Highly recommend. Thank you so much 🙏

Saskia: Excellent Tai Chi Leeds based class! As a completely novice I felt supported in gaining understanding of the different stances and techniques. Looking forward to learning and progressing in this school.

Jennie Gyllblad: and I'm loving it so far! Everyone is super welcoming and friendly - as an example, when I arrived for the first time, other more advanced students came up to have a chat and the teacher took a moment to properly introduce herself and chat with the beginners as well. It’s such a good atmosphere in there, with more advanced students joining the beginners to help out and everyone just seeming to be genuinely passionate about it all.I know it’s early days - having only been to three classes - but I’ve already noticed some small benefits to my physical and mental health. My day-job is just sitting by a desk for hours on end, and I’m dealing with some aches and pains as a result. The flowing circular movements of tai chi seems to be helping with my physical work-injuries, while things like the breathing exercises really help me to mentally de-stress. As someone who deals with anxiety, I can’t recommend these classes highly enough!Taoism is naturally being woven into the sessions, giving them an extra feeling of depth. We’ve also been introduced to kung fu in the last class, which was incredibly fun! For anyone who’s curious about trying this: I definitely think you should give it a go to see if it’s for you. I’m so happy I did.

thomas vickers: I've been going to Lishi at Chapel Allerton for a year, and I have learnt some great ways to help relieve stress, focus your mind, manage your energy and just generally live a happier more confident life. The classes are good fun, and give a great mix of energetic exercises and more calming yoga and tai chi.

Chris Snaith: After nearly 3 years of classes I can't imagine not doing Tai Chi now. The classes combine the calming, meditative aspects of Daoist yoga with the more energetic, up beat and focused Hand of the Wind Kung Fu to create an overall package that helps develop both body and mind. In addition getting more in tune with the way my body and mind react to things has helped hugely when dealing with stress and depression. The teachers and more experienced students are open, friendly, welcoming and genuinely passionate about sharing their love of this lifestyle and I can't recommend Lishi Tai Chi highly enough. Like anything it's not for everyone, but if you try it and enjoy it you can develop a life long passion which is full of benefits for leading and living a healthier, calmer life.

Katy Hewison: Enriching Lishi tai chi lesssons bring you awareness, articulation and a mindfulness that allows you to have creative space in your busy days. As a dancer it has been incredibly inspiring and influential to my daily practice. I would highly recommend for everyone.

Pat F: The Chapel Allerton Lishi class is a friendly and welcoming environment. The class promotes natural stress relief through the practice of Daoist physical arts including Tai Chi.I would recommend the class for anyone looking for mindful, soft exercise and a way to relax and calm themselves.

Mollie Thomas: I love this class and have been going to the Chapel Allerton class for a while now. It’s not just Tai Chi and martial arts, we benefit from gaining a better understanding of Taoism which really adds to the value of the class. It’s a very welcoming and friendly community of people and in my opinion far more beneficial than a gym membership! I would recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their physical and mental health.

nora stephenson: I have been doing Lishi Tai Chi at the Chapel Allerton class and I have found it to be a great way to stay healthy, flexible and in shape, both in my body and my mind. I find the Yoga and Meditation exercises very relaxing and they help me de-stress. Ben is great at making this class so lovely, that I can focus on the exercises and feel fantastic afterwards.I like the forms and the partner work and I like how dynamic the Kung Fu sessions are. Although the emphasis is not on fighting, all the exercises have a self defence application. I hope I never have to use them, but as a woman it's great to know I can get out of the grip of people twice my size applying Tai Chi.All the people in the class are lovely and so kind and respectful, that I never feel alone or out of place.I recommend this class to anyone who wants to improve their wellbeing.

Lucie Williams: and excellent instruction from Ben. I enjoy following along with the forms, especially the faster kung fu ones!

Louise McDowall: I stumbled upon Lishi one Thursday and haven’t looked back since, I love it and truth be told I’m hooked! Coming from a dance/somatic background, I’ve always been a keen mover and curious about body based practices. In Lishi, I feel I’ve found a bodily enquiry that will continue to both excite and humble me as to how much I have yet to learn or discover. The practice of Lishi is a highly adept way to both sensitise and train your ability to perceive and register sensation, be this through touch, breath, temperature, flow or tension. There is a real sense of community and ethics of care in the way people work with one another. A warmth, gratitude and generosity are present in the sessions, from all who attend with a real openness to learn. I continue to be amazed at how many layers there are to this practice and how the Daoist principles embedded within the sessions offer ways of being with self, others, and the world, both within and outside of the sessions.

Shmueli Bell: Always great fun and a great work out. I'm really grateful for these incredible classes!

John Jones: This is a great class. So glad I found Lishi when I started practicing tai chi.I have benefited in many ways from joining this form of exercise.Classes are friendly and always lift my spirit

ben morley: The classes offer a great space to learn and practice this ancient system of arts, and to look at how the innate wisdom of the arts can apply in life outside the training hall

Ricardo Bello: The classes are uplifitng in a lot of different ways. Every week I get an excellent workout, an impressive boost on my confidence, a good laugh, and a calm feeling at the end of the class that keeps me coming back for more. Definitely something I recommend everyone to pick up.

Wilhelm Wetterhoff: The class in Chapel Allerton is always a blast – the venue has a spacious interior and there are mats for rolling and throwing so on a Thursday night we're really flying around the room. One thing I like about it is how it's all taught in a structured and safe way. The teachers really know what they are doing. The first hour is a new beginner's class so it's the ideal class to go to if you're starting and want to learn the basics.

Headingley Leeds Tai Chi, Yoga, Meditation and Kung Fu: what do users think?

Abbie: I have just started the beginners Tai Chi Leeds course and it’s been great for moving my body, calming my mind and learning about the art of Tai Chi. The instructors cater for all levels and make everyone feel very welcome.

Richard Selfridge: Can't recommend the team at Lishi Leeds Tai Chi enough; I wanted a Beginners Tai Chi class in Leeds and have found the whole organisation to be excellent. The base in LS6 is close enough to the city centre for those working in the middle of Leeds, and has good transport links for those coming from elsewhere. And Tai Chi is both excellent from both an exercise and mindfulness. Grab a blue t-shirt and give it a go!

Frank Gordon: So I've been attending Leeds Tai Chi now for nearly 3 months and I have to say its been a great experience.Everyone from the teachers/mentors, to the people that attend classes are wonderful people.I leave each session with a great smile on my face, as it helps me on so many levels both mentally and physically as well as bringing some great inner peace.I'd recommend anyone thinking of doing Leeds Tai Chi and just sign up for the beginners course like I did and give it a try.

Lis Fa: Unfortunately I was unable to attend all of the course. That aside the classes were informative and calm and supportive. Amazing teachers and a wonderful group of people. Thank you

J Appleyard: Hi I have just completed 4 week taster and have just booked another 4 week course.Felt a little awkward at first, but the other students are more than helpful, friendly and accommodating to beginners. A very enjoyable 4 weeks and the hour or so flies by...its challenging of both mind and body, but care is taken and are only encouraged to go as far as your body is able... its a strange feeling of being relaxed, taxed and invigorated 😌 looking forward to the next 4 weeksbring it on 🤣 💗

K9 Time: I attended the Hyde Park Lishi class last night for the first time.I found it an amazing session and full of very welcoming people. The techniques are taught in a very understandable way and after the session i was left feeling very relaxed and for a while there forgot the worlds problems.I will be attending regularlyBrilliant.

Bernadette McConnell: If you are interested in Tai Chi, Taoist Yoga and Kung Fu for stress relief, relaxation and keeping fit this is the class for you. Laoma and the instructors are very good and you are made to feel very welcome - I really enjoy the classes and recommend you give it a try!

Lefteris Heretakis: Life changing practice! The genuine article, beware of imitations.

David Barry: Wai-Yii is a very fun instructor and the class at Hyde Park had a very positive atmosphere. The exercises included Tai Chi and breathing exercises and stretching. It really made me feel relaxed, healthy and happy!!! The Daoist exercises are very good for ones health internally and externally.

thomas vickers: I have learnt some great ways to help relieve stress, focus your mind, manage your energy and just generally live a happier more confident life. The classes are good fun, and give a great mix of energetic exercises and more calming yoga and tai chi.

demos360: I can’t recommend starting beginners Tai Chi classes enough. I started classes with Lishi Leeds 18 months ago and after a slow start decided to spend the last 12 months going a couple of times a week at Hyde Park and Chapel Allerton. The callisthenics, Yoga and routines involved in the physical training have helped me to recover from an injured back. They have Improved my posture, proprioception, balance and suppleness. But also improved wellbeing, through a sort of physical cognitive behavioural therapy. Soft technique martial arts have principles that carry through all aspects of life. Reducing stress and wasted energy by considering how you approach things and apply your energies. This deeply traditional art, rooted in Taoism has a real place in our busy modern lives. The classes are delivered with real professionalism, grace and warmth. The teachers are inspiring and friendly, this is common to the people I have met through attending classes and events. Even if you were not interested in self defence, each lesson is an education in holding and managing a groups attention. The only warning I would give is that you will be challenged in class. Not in an aggressive beat down way, but in a way that encourages you to step up to these and other challenges, to expand what you are capable of, all while working in a safe and nurturing environment. This doesn’t sound much like a martial art? If you want to thump things/people and take out aggression by expressing it, then no it’s not very martial. But it is steeped in the art of moving gracefully, with control and power, listening to other people’s actions, sometimes many other people and being aware, quick and decisive enough to respond to what you hear. It also teaches you calm and to keep your feet on the ground. If these things won’t win the fight, then should you be in that fight?

Niamh: Great Tai Chi class, a bit different to others I have been to. We do a range of activities, stretching and learning a Tai Chi form to the self defense aspects of tai chi, but trying to keep all that has been learnt together. It is challenging, but in a different way to a traditional exercise class. It requires you to focus and you can push yourself to your own limits. This is a very friendly group and everyone will help you to learn.

John Jones: If I've made one great decision it was to join a lishi class. The classes are great, the people friendly and kind. The trainers are so helpful and I always feel great at the end of class

melissa lim: Joined the beginners course and discovered a Fantastic class. Friendly atmosphere. Great Teacher. Hoping to go along to some of the weekend workshops.

ben morley: There is always a very positive atmosphere in the room, and I always learn and improve every time I come. I leave the class feeling calm, yet energised, utilised and inspired.

Ricardo Bello: Attending to the classes has been a great chance to get a gentle, complete way of getting healthier and happier. I really recommend the class.

Wilhelm Wetterhoff: Not for the faint of heart. This is real Kung Fu, so you work hard and your legs ache afterwards. You forget about all that stuff that's stressing you in life. I've never been as toned, fit and relaxed as I am now. So if you like to work yourself hard and feel awesome afterwards you should give Lishi a try. The teacher really knows her stuff and the other students are all helpful and friendly so the atmosphere is always fun and welcoming!
