Landown Farm: what do users think?
ian hunt: Excellent equestrian centre with a wonderful little community of horse owners and a incredibly knowledgeable yard owner who makes each lesson both challenging and entertainin.
Natalie Richardson: The owners are very knowledgable & helpful in every way.
Lois Mansfield: Amazing place Ive learnt on a horse called Patrick and he has taught me so much I love this place and it's the first place I'd go if I needed help with my ponies
Bobby Harnik Singh Bains: Do not pay in advance for any blocks of lessons. Once paid these guys will give you the run around trying to even book in for weekly lessons..We eventually gave up chasing these guys for lesson every week which we had paid in advance..Now they owe us money for not providing the agreed lessons and have started ignoring calls and messages..The staff are fine it's the owners are very badly organised..Please do yourself a favour and find yourself a proper riding school..We now attend a brilliant riding school. They may charge more than these guys but at least your getting what you pay for..
Jenny wren06: It's a lovely place the horses are all calm
Sam McClure: Lovely people who run it :) Drove them to the airport from Verbier, Switzerland. Looking forward to a visit maybe a ride! Sam EXE ADVENTURES

Hargate Equestrian Centre: what do users think?
Courtney Speirs: I started riding again last year after a 15 year break. I was losing my confidence with every lesson so decided to make the decision and change yards. Hargate have been incredible. My riding is improving, my confidence has came back and I actually look forward to my lessons. They have so much on offer to suit all abilities and ages. The facilities are extensive and well kept.I took my daughter to a tiny tots group lesson. She was quite upset and scared of the ponies, despite having other kids to look after the staff went out of their way to find a suitable pony (Jasper). They all spent time reassuring my daughter, allowing her to groom then have a little walk on Jasper. Can't rate this place enough. Everyone is so friendly and helpful (quite rare in the equestrian world ha)
nick shaw: Fantastic. Really friendly staff and great with teaching my little girl how to ride.
Eddie Wade: Absolutely disgusted with this place!! My wife qualified with her pony for Equifest, and was told she had to pay £12 for the card!!! Since when do you pay for the qualifying cards!!!!?you can get them free from their website!!! Spoke to the lady in charge of equifest and she’s fuming that this has happened & will be investigating it!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Lisa Edwards: Terrible experience. Unpleasant, unprofessional and an utter waste of time. They couldn't be bothered with any aspect of my "lesson". Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Gary Taylor: Friendly staff and good teachersGreat new online booking system
Susan Brown: I go once a week horse riding ,and I love it here the owners and staff are very lovely people and my instructor Shannon is very good at her work and the horses are well cared for and well behaved ,I had not been on a horse for 30years to make them steps I feared at first , iv had 9 lesson so far the support from my instructor Shannon has help my confidence alot ,and I'm glad I made them steps
Pusheen_GamerYT: Only gave them a one star because I can't give them a 0! Terrible terrible place, put your children on unsuitable horses, don't ever phone you back, cancel lessons without notifying you, only when you arrive you find out they have cancelled your lesson, rude staff, will be reporting them! I have never left a review before but felt compelled to with this god awful ran stables.
Kerry King: Absolutely shocking experience with dressage judge today. Tracey Lovegrove. She spoke to my daughter n the most unprofessional way.one of her comments being ..does she know what shes doing ...Witnessed by a few bystanders who all came to me shocked by the way my daughter was spoken to .
Dale Clarke: Great show well organised and friendly
Sally-Anne Bonnett: Excellent riding school with great facilities and very experienced instructors. Very friendly yard.
Bekky Hopkinson: Had a lovley day ,brilliant facilities.
ian clamp: Excellent, friendly and helpful and not rushing you
Julie Holmes: Love the new surface
Isabelle Vasko: Lovely place, beautiful horses that are well cared for- and nice instructors who are very good at teaching
Carol Hood: Fab instructor very helpful...
flip kids: Lovely place riding lessons are amazing with megan
R Beech: Lovely place
Julian Love: Great place, well managed and the horses all appear to be in great condition. Daughter had a fantastic lesson and will be back
Ellen Foster: Great open show. Really well organised we thoroughly enjoyed our day.
martyn lewins: Love it. Great people, very friendly. One of my favourite equestrian venues.
icey sky: Lovely and calmly run centre. Staff nice and friendly very welcoming. Horses and ponies all in very good condition and the stables. My daughter had a pony party she thoroughly enjoyed. Shes has also been to a own a pony day 10 to 4pm for £45 where she also learnt a great deal about grooming a pony and caring for the pony she and her friends had great fun and a riding lesson too. Try it out mums and daughters !!

Barleyfields Equestrian Centre: what do users think?
Si Li: My first time rider experience: Had the 30 minutes semi private lesson today with my other 2 friends today. My friends ride well, but the lesson was supposed to be Beginners Lesson, which is mainly for me, a first time rider.Instructor had no patience of showing me how to hold the string, instead of letting my friends to show me. If I need her to explain again, she quickly lost patience.Instructor didn’t sympathise with my fears of first time riding on a horse. She didn’t brief me with any safety or self care (I.e if I fall off the horses). I felt scared and asked if I can just experience a ‘bare-minimum’ for today, and give me time to try to get used to it. as I am worried the consequences if I get injured. Maybe the word “bare-minimum “ is offensive to her, as I am not a native speaker. She then told me to just sit on a horse, while watching my friends riding. After 10 minutes, she asked me to get off the horse to swap with my friends’. As her horse is very “independent”.Since then, I never got back on to any horse, So I stood with her for 20 minutes until the lesson finished. Meanwhile, she didn’t speak to me at all. To be fair, she was giving instructions to my friends. And completely ignored me.I went to the office to ask for a full refund. There’s defensive arguments. I got £14 back, half of what I paid for. I don’t feel it’s the money. I felt her attitude toward me is a humiliation. The instructor decided to let me stood there for 20 minutes without any communication, no caring, no encouragement, no eye contact…I truly hope you get better experience than mine as a first time rider with this instructor.
Chrissy Ablard: After seeing a post on Facebook about horse riding for adults, rang the yard up and asked about the group and who it was aimed at. The lady I spoke to was kind and helpful explaining about the 2 groups i could join one more experienced than the other so booked in for that. When I got to the yard on Saturday, I was surprised at how big it was . A kind gentleman pointed me in the direction of the office which was clean, bright, modern and professional, the lady (who's name i have forgotten) was so friendly, got me to complete a form asking for my contact and emergency contact details as well as experience. She then introduced me to another lady in the group, and we walked to the area together as I didn't know where I was going. The horses were gorgeous, the young members, if staff were genuinely smiley and very helpful, the other people in the group were friendly and hilarious, and our instructor Nicky made it fun for us all As we were all experienced, the lesson was progressive and fun. If you didn't quite look like Charlotte Dujardan or Zara Phillips, it really didn't matter. There are other lessons you can have to do all the fancy stuff and jumping if you want to. That's not what I wanted, but I did get what I wanted. I can't wait to go back next week ! Fun had by all. My only suggestion is more signage for directions to different parts of the yard. Other than that, with their 2 other menages (one indoor), you are going to get a lesson you want with an instructor you like. You can pay by cash or card. The yard has no preference for either, which is good for a change.
Laina Froom: My 3 and 5 year olds have enjoyed the tots sessions during half terms this year. They initially get chance to brush and care for the pony. Then they get time in the ménage and the chance to trot before going on a lovely jack down the bridle path. At the end today they received a medal, rosette and certificate so they were proud as punch. The staff are lovely and the ponies are very happy and safe. Highly recommended.
Love xoxgymnastics: Lovely staff and very well trained horses!
Ian H: Great time was had by my 6yr old granddaughter.
Sharon Knight: Don’t waste your money as these owners are rip offs!Every lessons had a different horse which I get, every lesson we had a different instructor. One lesson pony wasn’t ready therefore missed 10 minutes of 30 minute lesson but still got charged for 30 minutes.Another lesson sent to wrong arena so missed another 10 minutes but still got charged for 30 minutes.Yes did complain and it got shrugged off!Had a lesson booked and had to cancel due to my daughter testing positive for covid but as it was less than 24 hours notice, still got charged and had to pay full price of £37 for the lesson!Owners have no customer service and quite nasty via email. Not concerned at all about my 11 year old daughter! There are plenty more riding schools therefore I will take my custom elsewhere!
karen kirk: Amazing place
John Sanders: After they advertised for stable staff / Saturday job.they had 20 plus girls many under 16 working on a no pay trial for 10 hours. With very little to no supervision.Totaly against employment law for under 16 year olds. No evidence of a young person risk assessment and safety briefings.I will be reporting them to trading standards and social services for their total lack of duty of care.
Victoria Edwards: Myself and granddaughters started riding a few months ago with Barleyfields and are having an amazing experience. We are all loving the lessons . The instructors are excellent and we are all at different stages of riding . Highly Recommend all the staff are lovely .
David Walker: These people have been absolutely brilliant with my daughter. She was keen to learn to horse ride but was a little nervous. Mia and the team have been superb and now she is brimming with confidence. Would recommend to everyone. Amazing people and facilities.
Charlotte Thornley: My daughter who is 7, has had her 2nd lesson today. She was in a group lesson, which we weren't sure of at first, however, I have to say what a lesson. The instructor was so calm and encouraging for all the children, working with children I know what a handful they can be. She was matched up well to a lovely pony named mini, who was a little gem.The centre is clean and well maintained. All the horses and ponies are beautifully groomed and looked after. From arriving and receiving a lovely warm welcome, to being out in the arena, we are so impressed and definitely glad we chose Barleyfields Equestrian. Having ridden all my life, I wanted a safe and nurturing place for my daughter to learn and we definitely chose the best. Thanks again.
Emma Louise Hurd: So far, I have been for two half hour lessons on well natured horses and the communication when booking lessons is excellent- the team in the office contacted me prior to attending the lesson to arrange an alternative time for the lesson and checked that I was OK with the time specified. Fantastic- just what you want!Julie is a brilliant instructor- so enthusiastic, patient, friendly, approachable, supportive and encouraging and she is more than happy to go over anything that you're unsure of which is helpful as I have right sided Cerebral Palsy and deafness. She clearly loves doing the job that she does and takes her time to listen to you if you have any issues. Keep doing what you're doing Julie. 😊Considering it's only half an hours lesson, there is a lot of content and there are plenty of opportunities to have a go at trotting which I find that I'm improving on every time I go.Looking forward to my next visit.
Sophi e: When we took my disabled (hemiplegia/CP) nephew (10) to this school, he was really excited and handled amazingly by all members of staff including the instructor. There was a giant grin on his face and we were all excited to see how he would progress.Unfortunately, since then he has never had a consistent instructor. In six months, he has never seen the same teacher more than twice, and never in succession, despite the fact that we have asked for a specific instructor as advised. We have been attending with private lessons for 6 months and each time are treated as though this is his first lesson. This means that he isn't progressing, keeps being told he's doing everything really well and then having our 30 minute lesson end, and he's become bored. We're also told he can't enter a group lesson as he's 'not ready', despite the fact that he is never corrected in a lesson. I'm not saying he's a prodigious rider, but I really think this is taking the biscuit. Obviously you can't be certain, but I wonder if this is due to implicit bias because he's disabled. On talking to the office 'team', who tend to be defensive rather than helpful when asked about areas of concern, there appear to be no consistent private instructors, no standard progression plan for riders, and no communication between instructors regarding what riders can and can't do.I'm also concerned that since the school switched hands (I used to attend 10 years ago) that the school has taken on way more horses and ponies than they can provide for and that in turn stables have become really cramped and small. I also doubt from experience that there's enough pasture for all the horses to be taken out in summer due to the sheer number. This makes me really concerned for the welfare of the horses.Tl;dr: don't get private lessons here. You won't improve or advance because there's no standard plan of progression. Office staff are more concerned about themselves than your issues with the school. I'm also worried about the conditions the ponies are kept in.Update: the reply the owners have made is a complete lie! When I called and explained my nephew's needs they said they had disabled clients and that they would be very happy to take him on. They have never mentioned RDA - I only know what that is because of googling after deciding Barleyfields were inadequate and found that there were NO local RDA affiliated schools in Derby. Actual fabrications. If this doesn't show you what kind of people own this school, I don't know what does. The fact they are offended by potential implicit bias 'with no foundation' - except from the experience my disabled nephew has had??? - shows that they are too proud to consider the implications of that statement. We all have implicit bias and need to work hard to eliminate it, which I doubt they do if they are too offended by the very idea they may be biased to look further into it.
Maya Nelson: Absolutely amazing. My kids have recently moved from another local stables and safe to say I will NEVER take them anywhere else☺️ Staff are so helpful, ponies are lovely, owners always want the best for you! Wouldn’t recommend anywhere else x
Clare Brooks: Great place , highly reccomend
Demi Forbes: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThis Place is Amazing! I look forward to it every week. All the horses are amazing (especially Jeremy 😍) All Staff members are beautiful welcoming and down to earth. Brilliant encouraging instructors. Can't say enough great things
Lisa Sheehan: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality
Lorraine Cooke: Fantastic riding school, very friendly and well kept. Great experience no matter what your ability.
Tara Marie Brady: My son and daughter recently started lessons at Barleyfields and they are both really enjoying it. The owners seem really nice and the staff are very friendly. I love the flexibility with lessons and how there is no committment to a monthly direct debit. The horses and ponies seem very well looked after and the grounds are spacious and well maintained. We havent been going long but so far, so good. I would definately recommend.
Liam King: Critical:Communication,Professionalism
Sofia Mitropolskaya: The horses and instructors were enjoyable, unfortunately the owners are greedy and rude. The customer service is non existent and when I asked them to find a middle ground after they made mistakes in booking, the lesson and preparing the horse for riding, i was told that I can pay what they charge or find another place to ride. I did, and i suggest that you do likewise. There are absolutely lovely riding centres close nearby.

jacqui mee: What a clean well run service
Ben Potterton: Isabelle attends riding lessons here, she is in level two and loves every minute of it and cant wait till her next lesson. It's a very nice and well equipped site with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Really couldn't ask for more.
Kat F: Be aware that if you wish to ride here you are required to book and pay for a month's worth of lessons in advance, they don't tell you this until you have ridden once. If for whatever reason you have to cancel a ride no refunds are given. For that reason I won't be back, complete waste of my time.
lucy naish: Great experience at Mega Equine Car Boot sale on Friday. Excellent organisation and venue. Very helpful staff and great selection of goods.
Graham Parker: Execllent for the disabled and have dedicated staffd whoarewellinformed who are caring to all people that use this center
olly jarvis: There is a great atmosphere all the people are happy and helpful
Lindsay Copestake: Very good well worth it
Andrew Hodge: Great fun for kids.
Jane D: Lovely place. Shame it is let down by what a staff member claimed as grumpy horses/ponies (she wasnt wrong) and by an Instructor happy to sit down in the corner of the arena after two children fell and were still crying whilst riding. This was my one and only visit to an able bodied child's lesson. I certainly would not go back. If safety of your child is of importance to you, visit and watch a lesson first. Make sure the instructor knows your child's capabilities do not be lead to believe they have read your form, better still find an alternative.
Shane Bailey: Good
Layla Thomas: I love it, it is a fun experience and the horse are lovely to meet and be around 😍😍😍😍😍
Melanie Greenway: Amazing
Ema Chillingworth: I've been coming to Scropton as a volunteer for two years and really enjoy every visit. I help look after the horses, help in riding lessons working with disabled kids and adults, support the driving instructors and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
