Derby Guitar Tuition: what do users think?
Luke Williams: Great Teacher, I've played casually for years but never understood music theory and Mark has given me great help with getting into that and into helping me push my own playing.Really flexible in his teaching and you can look into any aspect of guitar study and learn comprehensively from him
Franek Kimono: Mark is great guitar teacher. Very patient with total beginners like me. Very encouraging and supportive. Top man. One day I shall become El Mariachi too
Sally Collins: Myself and my daughters have been having lessons for several years now with Mark. He is always patient, friendly and professional and is a great teacher. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him if you are looking for a guitar tutor.
Josh Sherlock: Absolutely amazing instructor who knows his stuff and has the experience to back up everything he says! Mark is a great guy and easy to get along with, and is great at figuring out the best way to teach a certain technique. After trying to teach myself for about a year taking lessons with Mark was the best thing for my guitar playing I could have done, 100% would recommend anyone to take lessons too!! :)
Tim Bo: Mark is a great teacher of both electric and acoustic guitar and also of music theory. I have been a student of his for a few years now and always feel motivated and encouraged to learn more every lesson.
Stephen Leather: I’ve been having lessons with Mark for a few years now. I’m an ageing rocker turned folk/ blues acoustic with a bit of classical thrown in; he covers all bases for me. Mark is a very patient teacher and willing to indulge me with my musical tastes. But what I really like is that he doesn’t waste time showing off what a good player he is - and he is good! The focus is entirely on me and I always come away from a lesson feeling I have progressed.
Kye Ratcliffe: I've been studying with Mark for a couple of months now, excellent tutor with a great musical understanding
Julia Templeton: I began having classical guitar lessons with Mark over three years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed every lesson with him since then. He is enthusiastic and encouraging and my lessons are always hugely enjoyable.Mark is a fabulous tutor and I can't recommend him highly enough.
Teana ASHLEY Teana Ashley: Mark is a great guitar teacher and I always look forward to my lesson. I always learn something new, and there’s a great balance of theory and practice. Mark structures the lesson to suit me, as an individual, and he’s extremely professional and encouraging as well as being a really nice guy. If you want to learn the guitar in an enjoyable supportive atmosphere, then I would strongly recommend that you book lessons with Mark.
Colin Payne: I was stuck in the 'self teaching' rut and after a few lessons with Mark, I really noticed the improvement in my playing. Been going for lessons for over a year now and love it! Mark is always able to fit me in around my changing shift pattern.
Kirsty & Oliver Izzard: Mark is great with my daughter. He has helped her through practical and theory grades and always makes sure she is enjoying what she is learning to play. He is patient and relaxed in the lessons and never puts on pressure. We would highly recommend Mark as a Guitar teacher.
Sarah Allen: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMark is an excellent teacher and my son really enjoyed lessons with him. Wholeheartedly recommend!
H D: Mark teaches my son and is an excellent and patient tutor. If you're thinking about taking lessons, stop thinking about it and just do it. You won't regret it under Mark's tuition. This guy is like a Yoda for guitars but much nicer than our green alien friend. He's a legend before his time.
Ruth Discua: I find my lessons enjoyable and encouraging and with a high quality of teaching, I get to play the songs I love and am progressing well. Would highly recommend.
Dave Hughes: Mark is a great teacher, very keen to teach in a way that suit you rather than a strict formal way. He's helped my son go from a rather shy beginner to playing lead guitar in his school band :)
Scott Howard: I've had lessons for nine months with Mark and enjoyed every one of them - Mark provides excellent encouragement and feedback along the way and I leave each session knowing I have accomplished something useful to my guitar journey.Mark can seemingly play something from any style you are interested in and can always suggest a song to learn that will interest you. This will always have just enough challenge to keep you wanting to learn something new whilst not being too hard that it makes you want to give up.Mark is really interested in what YOU want to learn and will show you how to do anything you ask him about; lessons are built around your actual learning needs and objectives rather than the all too common approach of a rigid programme the tutor would like to teach you regardless of whether you have an interest in the material or not.
Diego Marco: I have been learning guitar with Mark for more than a year and I genuinely think he is a great teacher. Apart for being very skilled on the instrument he always listen to the concepts/songs/music style that you want to be learn and tries to tailor the way he teaches so it can match your ambitions.
james miller: 5 out of 5. Not only superb at guitar but excellent teacher.
Adam Herbert: Mark gives fantastic support, is always enthusiastic and creates such a comfortable environment that the lessons are consistently enjoyable and very beneficial. He's always willing to work around my various work patterns and will answer any queries/questions at any point throughout the week. As a beginner, I have progressed enormously in the last few months with Mark's help at all aspects of guitar playing.
D Briddie: I started acoustic lessons with Mark to improve my music reading skills which were fun and educational. I've migrated onto lead guitar now and its coming on great.Mark is a patient, knowledgeable teacher, whose character puts you at ease from day one. There's no stuffy music lesson going on here. It's interesting and good fun in my weekly one hour lesson.Great value for money and I would highly recommend him for both beginner, student or aspiring band guitarist.
Helen Wexler: My daughter was given 6 guitar lessons as a Christmas present 18 months ago. She's been going to weekly lessons with "Guitar Mark" ever since & looks forward to them.Last year Mark suggested that my daughter was ready to take her first exam, Rock School Debut, she passed in March with a distinction. She's now working towards Grade 2. A happy child = happy parents

Derby Guitar Tutor: what do users think?
G P: When I retired in my 60’s recently I decided to learn guitar for my own entertainment. The music I like is electric blues and rock from the 70’s up to current days. So after buying a decent guitar and amp, I searched YouTube for tips on playing, finding a wealth of stuff but all of it a bit random. I thought I needed some structure & direction. So I decided to have lessons and via a internet search of local teachers I came across James. That was a stroke of luck. James is a proper musician, he knows music inside out in theory & practice. Even though a lot of the music I favour was probably recorded before James was even born, he knows all the greats like Clapton, Hendrix, Page so he’s able to targetthe lessons his gives me towards that sort of genre. I’m not the greatest of students either but James is very patient, and it’s great fun, he’s a good teacher and I look forward to my weekly lesson.I’d recommend anyone who wants to learn or improve their guitar technique to book a lesson with James.
Attiq Malik: James is a phenomenal guitar teacher. I started taking lessons from him a year ago having never touched a guitar before. The progress we’ve made has been excellent. I’ve been very happy with the detail he’s included in every lesson. He has tailored the lessons to my liking and interests. All materials are made readily available after each lesson. I couldn’t be more grateful for contacting him a year ago. Very excited to continue to learn from him and grow into a better musician! Thanks James!10/10 - would absolutely recommend to all.
Kahn Lowe: Top teacher ! Very well mannered and a decent guy. Enjoy my lessons with James..always come away with useful tips and feeling energized to continue learning. Makes a good coffee too 😉
Mehran Ali: An amazing guitar teacher with a wealth of knowledge and skill. I’ve improved so much since I started taking lessons from James
Lochlann Simms-hughes: I’m a student currently and I have been for quite a while now. The lessons are very enjoyable. Usually teachers will teach you about the music they like and the music they listen to but in these lessons you are asked about the music you enjoy and what you want to learn and achieve from the lessons. I am taught all about guitar playing whether it’s technique, theory, tips such as how to play faster and smoother and how to play songs that I like while at the same time also being fun and exciting. If you or anyone you know wants to learn guitar I recommend these lessons or at least trying them out.
Louise Toolypops: My son enjoys his lessons here a lot! It's crazy how far he's come!
Jaz Greer: James is an excellent Tutor, knowledgeable, passionate, patient and dedicated to his students!
Jonathan Stubbings: James is a fantastic teacher and role model for our 11 year old boy, who has been learning guitar with him for just over a year now. Our son gets not only top class technical and theoretical knowledge from James, but is also getting an entire musical education, coming home inspired by all the classic bands and musicians that James has introduced him too. Our son is now confident and playing his guitar fluently. James is extremely patient and has gone out of his way to be very flexible re swapping lesson times / days when needed. You can tell he really loves music and has a passion for teaching. Couldn't recommend him highly enough.
Jason Renshaw: We moved from another guitar tutor to James as we were disappointed with the tuition being received by my son and we were so glad we did. He has brought my son on lots and has a good structured approach to teaching which gives us more confidence. James is a nice guy who is friendly and professional and willing to accommodate the needs of the pupil. Highly recommended.
Mr MagicPants: I've been getting lessons from James for a few months now. After trying with an app. In person lessons make so much difference.James is an amazing teacher, easy going and friendly. Lessons move at your pace and flexibility on lesson times is brilliant.I could not reccomend James highly enough.I've been taught so much more than just how to play. Theory, picking up tips on guitar care.If you are looking to learn, James is your man.
Trish Fisher: I’ve been having lessons with James since mid February and even in lockdown am continuing with weekly Skype lessons. James is very patient and able to make learning to play acoustic guitar a very enjoyable experience. I feel I am definitely progressing well and the materials James provides are pitched at the right level for me whilst keeping it interesting. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.
Becca Pereira-Wrafter: James is really patient with me and caters to the music genre I like as well as answering all questions i ask.
Deanna Pereira-Wrafter: Really nice chap and very patient teaching my daughter how to play the guitar.
Alfred Freeman: James is a very punctual and consistent in his teaching, I have been taking with him for 2-3 months and has never missed a lesson and never been late, he is extremely reliable and very patient, he will always try different ways to teach and always adapts to situations which makes him a excellent teacher. I would recommend him to anyone who wishes to learn.
