S G (Rock on): We enjoyed our first visit so much we came back again another evening. The food, service, staff and atmosphere were all excellent.I wish we hadn't gone back. Everything was great the first time; the food, but the second time my daughter's meal was served after mine and it was wrong. She had already waited 10 more minutes than myself and had to wait a further 30 minutes for it to be replaced and the replacement was missing the usual dressings, including the coriander and the bowl was almost half empty compared to usual.The expressions on the staff's faces when they brought her the 'correct' meal and another drink looked strained and unfriendly as if they were annoyed that we had needed to draw their attention to the error and felt that we should have just kept our mouths shut about the mistake.Such a pity! Based on our first visit definitely would score 5 out of 5 on everything but unfortunately the second visit was so disappointing! If scoring on the second visit only I would give only one star. It wasn't just the mistake it was the begrudging and tardy way it was rectified.

Matthew Burrows: I've always loved Wagamama's, but somewhere between 5 and 10 years ago the food got even better.However, the staff at the Colchester restaurant have always been excellent, making it an even better experience. The management and senior staff must be very good, because no matter who is serving/cooking is always a lovely experience... Keep it up! 😍

Stimo66: Came across Koryu by chance today - what an absolute find - had the tempura prawn served with soup, udon, pickles and green beans - all at £15.00! The al a carte is available only during the week but will definitely return for that! Can't believe I've not been here before! Very impressed!

Rukmi Gurung: Food was okay, but I won’t come here again. One of the staff there was very rude and made me feel uncomfortable. I asked if I was meant to go up to order and she rudely replied saying “no we’ll come to you” and walked away. As she took my order I asked how many calamari would come in a dish and she rolled her eyes at me and had a weird look on her face and said “I don’t know?? It’s a small portion” no smiles or even a thank you. Avoid going here as it’s not worth it. You’ll feel like you’ve wasted your money because of how rude the staff is. I don’t usually leave reviews but I had to make one for this place as I was very uncomfortable and unsatisfied with the whole experience.

Margo Lumby: Asked if they would replace the sushi and waitress came back and said she was told to say ‘no’. We mentioned there was a large fishbone in the salmon temaki and she was told to ask what was it in? No apologies from management. The waitress was very pleasant and sushi ok. Definitely not Japanese though.

A shame as I’d heard good things about Aburi, but won’t be back.It was literally just beef, some spinach, and a broth that can only be described as brown gravy like packet sauce, 100% not a broth they had made themselves. I make much better Ramen at home. It also had 2 ingredients missing which was on the menu (beansprouts and I think sweetcorn also missing). 2 stars as the seaweed starter was nice, just the main course was unacceptably bad. Much better Ramen round the corner at Hsinking. Maybe just aim for the sushi here which is good & don’t bother with the ramen.

Had a juice called Ramune but was not impressed and after I've read the label I'm not going to order it again. With the food completely different story. Tasty well cooked, the rice was wonderful in my opinion. Started with the Miso Soup which you have to give it a try, it's simple and nice. Overall I would recommend it. Megan C: My favourite place to eat in Colchester and I will return time and time again. I dream about the duck ramen but the tonkotsu ramen is also delicious. I love the gyozas and the prawn tempuras as sides. The service is always wonderful and the atmosphere is relaxed. The restaurant itself is beautiful and I will transport you to Japan.

Matcha Fan: When hunger strikes, one seeks solace in a steaming bowl of delicious ramen. Alas, the experience I had at this particular establishment was not one I'd wish to relive. The noodles were subpar and the beef and chicken were nothing to write home about, but that is not my main complaint.It was the waiter's stubbornness and arrogance that left a sour taste in my mouth. When I kindly requested a refill of noodles and a bowl of rice, he replied with a condescending tone, boasting of his past experiences and how his establishment did not provide such amenities. Such an attitude is unacceptable, and a clear lack of respect for the customer. To deny such courtesies that are common in most places is one thing, but to do so with such disdain is another. As a patron, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, and it is unfortunate that such basic human values are lost on the staff of this establishment.The tonkotsu ramen was passable, but the beef noodle and chicken were nothing special. However, it was the poor service that truly tainted my experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who values customer service and common decency.

Fin Ryves: My girlfriends vegetarian and so we stopped in here last week, we got the Hamburger and Fillet burger from the Saver Menu. I personally never usually go for veggie/vegan options but these burgers were absolutely amazing. Perfectly cooked and really flavourful, amazing considering how cheap they were as part of the saver menu. Lovely staff and atmosphere too. Highly recommend

Chris Singleton: The welcome was excellent and the menu is innovative to tempt even the most hardened carnivore to try the vegan delights. The staff are super friendly and helpful and you can see they are passionate about their food. This good start was so sadly ruined afterwards. To be fair, we were told there was a wait on the food. How long? 20 minutes we were informed. We agreed and went upstairs to sit down. Nice surroundings although quite dark decor but not a problem. It was however, cold to be sitting down for more than 10 minutes without your coat on. The food took a few minutes short of an hour to arrive at the table and we’d finished the drinks ordered at the beginning. The food was excellent and cleverly presented. The staff apologised for the wait. I won’t be going back but purely because they were just overwhelmed and trying to balance takeaway orders and those inside at the same time. The customer would be forgiven for thinking that this is vegan fast food but the wait in the cold is just too long for a swift stop for lunch. Andrea Giuseppe Foti: 2* because the staff is courteous. However, food wise it was a let down. My Brikkie bagel (not so sure of the spelling) was very dry. The avocado in my wife's bagel wasn't ripe; they explained this was their last one as they were busy and if anything would send someone to the supermarket?!? - Should have NOT served it to start with!My kids pizza margherita was awful...Even my kids didn't like it!!! Any frozen pizza from any supermarket would be better.That's a shame as the atmosphere is really good and coffee is good too..not sure of the pastries and cakes as I haven't tried any except for a granola slice that my wife had to ask twice for and didn't really impress is.

M M: The food and drinks selection has quite a variety to pick from. I've eaten here a lot now, so have been able to try most things. Most of it is fantastic, albeit expensive(ish). The staff are pretty friendly and welcoming, and the place can be quite cosy.I'd recommend planning your visit as it can get rather busy, especially on weekends; we love to see vegan places do well!

Angela Shaw: I was so excited when it opened for there to be an entirely vegan cafe which may be why I have only ever been disappointed. I don't like giving bad reviews unless somewhere has repeatedly or inexcusably been poor. The coffe isn't particularly nice, a huge majority of the times I've been there the staff have been rude beyond that of the pompous egocentric vegan, and the owners aren't vegan and own other, non vegan places, knowingly capitalising of the increase in veganism. I can make better cakes and they can be extremely expensive. Some are lovely, I won't deny, but I have found the whole place quite an uncomfortable place to be. And the forced hippie-chic aesthetic hurts.

Pete & Mich: Lovely little coffee shop, nice latte, first time having oatmeal milk, I didn't taste the difference, nice cake too. Only thing I didn't like was the menu on the card payment machine asking for a tip before even receiving food or drinks, its a bit intimidating clicking no tip in front of the person serving you. Tip tin would be more up my street. Apart from that, lovely.

Of course it tastes different to what my mum makes, but they haven't diluted the Mauritian flavours and spice, so it was still amazing and pretty authentic! Aaron Williams: Might be the best food in Colchester! These people know how to cook! A small menu that focuses on high quality fresh ingredients. Food that's good for you and tastes amazing! I had option B and the chili cakes side. The aubergine fritters were spectacular. Many well balanced interesting flavours in the main dish which included Dahl, spinach and potato, creole, roti. Lots of nice details with the herbs and spices. The coriander chutney was really interesting too! The portion size was very good. Will be ordering again!

If I was to recommend something to order it would be the WHOLE menu really; so go wild. Best fresh sushi in Colchester! Only criticism is that there is no onsite restaurant to visit and enjoy the sushi but I highly recommend.

Alex Burns: As with many others, would not have considered vegan food before trying this. Honestly this the gold standard for vegan burgers, the "chicken" burger in particular is amazing (and almost indistinguishable from the real thing). Everything else on the menu is just packed with flavour.I sincerely hope this becomes a full restaurant very soon.

It was nice to have a takeaway with my partner and not have to worry about finding a gluten free option for her 🙂. Will definitely be returning to try the 'Bloody Mary' burger. Liam was a great bloke too - it was nice to speak to a fellow foodie (professional though unlike me 😅) - who was trying to bring something different to the industry. Good luck to him.
