V Bar: what do users think?
Toni Murray: Last night at v bar was great fun! Thanks for the memories
Scott Tilley: Small and poky...... no atmosphere
Sean Reilly: Just make sure when you ask for a rum and coke you don't get dark rum served to you 🤢
Daisy woop: Friendly bar staff and banging tunes for us millennials 😂
Claire Spiret: Visited the town for a day and had a great Saturday night out in the V bar. Great rock and nu metal music, good drinks and friendly people.
Steve Dimmock: Good small bar, not over priced, but a lack of seating, great music.
Robert Jago: Good location, generally a hip crowd.
Dylan Read: The floors are sticky, the music is good. Great place to go when everywhere else is either closed or you want a louder end to the evening.
Sierra Stilwell: Small building big atmosphere, attracts quite a cliquey crowd. Staff know what they're doing
Matt Jolly: Mind the stairs!
Jez Donnelly: Music always great 👍
Biker D: Small and pokey and had to beg for music.
Hollie Wilson: Good cocktails.
Matthew Earle: Been coming here for years for good cocktails, but unfortunately they don't train the people who work here how to make them properly anymore.
Joel Innard: Colin is the best DJ!
Fjord vic Perfect: Love the menu, disappointed that there was no iron bru to go with the bullet bourbon. Only negative though
Music Al: It's small. Has an atmosphere later on.
Hayley Potter: Did cocktail making class for a hen do well worth the money
Cher England: Great support treat the party really well. Great cocktail making girls really enjoyed it

Twisters Bar: what do users think?
Carl Romano: Really nice outdoors area. Bit pricey and they serve shooter drinks in shot glasses which is cheeky.
Molly Hannan: Although coming out on a Saturday when the weather is awful is always a risk, I have to say the staff were bang on it! The place was clean and they couldn’t do more for us, John and Robbie were especially helpful in advising us to gluten free drinks and other particular (fussy) tastes. It is nice to go to a venue where the staff genuinely care about their customers. Thank you for a good night!
Keith Axon: Amazing find whilst heading back to the hotel. Staff really friendly, happy to chat whilst preparing excellent cocktails.
Ben Murray: It's alright for a pint
Lawrance Devon: Sunday evening week before Christmas thought we frequent a favorite of all ours.Unfortunately bar manager tried to charge his only customers in thete £28 for 3 beers and small glass of wine. When challenged he said he would reduce 20% off... sadly paid for but asked why so expensive and he said wine was £9 a glass... disgraceful behaviour and will not be returning or recommending
Lee Williams: Popped in this bar prior to dinner at nearby restaurant after reading good reviews on cocktails, and we were not disappointed with the quality and reasonably priced, only negatives were front and rear doors were fixed open which meant it was really cold, and no comfortable seating available in the front bar area.
Olivia hilton: Amazing drinks, smaller area but I appreciated that instead of busy Lound noises. Clean and friendly
Aisea Sautu: Quite unique bar inside as well as the beer garden. Definitely be going back
Joshua Andrews: quant and accommodating. old mout on tap, great music and their teapots will knock your head off
James Braddy: Got asked to leave by sum littleLady getting the door staff involved after having to shout for the bar staffs attension as they were busy talking and on the phones. Shocking service
Ellie Bladen: Wonderful time here with with my other half ❤️ Would like to thank Sarah for her great hospitality and all the other waitresses for their welcoming and friendly attitudes 😊
Matt Willis: Loved the tea pot
Dylan Read: Great little bar half way down north hill. Good prices, a quirky venue and friendly staff.
Eric Philbert: Excellent music, friendly service and top marks for the beers. Will go again
Megan Cranfield: First time my pals card got declined, second time went through. Bartender proceeded to ask what we do to see if we could "afford" our drinks. Felt like absolute dirt after. Usually regualar ustomers but reaĺly disppointed in our experience. Bartender was short, ginger, knob type.
Matthew Steen: Overrated
Harry Wills: the teapots are ruining my life. the music is great.
Ian Smith: First time here and will come again, good atmosphere and good beer
Robert Thomas: Fabulous, intimate venue. Great music and wonderful service.
Sarah Cooper: The cocktails are super tasty and it's great they have the app for table service to keep you safe at the moment. They lost 2 stars as we specifically requested low seats with backs and not bar stools when we made the booking online - 2 out of the 3 of us have back problems so this was really inmportant. Not only could they not accomodate this, they didn't bother to let us know beforehand and waited for us to question it upon seeing our table. We probably would have cancelled the booking if we'd known in advance.
Sarah Hansen: The place is amazing. I've been here on more than one occasion but only twice since covid. Its so safe and I felt very comfortable. The guy working I think was named Harvey (possibly sorry if I'm wrong) was fantastic. He explained they were a bit under staff and the back log of drinks. He was so good and I felt bad for him the amount of stress he was in. We always have a good time and the wait time will never put me off. It was a busy Saturday and we still had a great time. Thank you for your great service.

Anthony Austin: Good selection of drinks staff were pleasant, place was clean but very cold.
Ellis Smith: Really friendly people, happy staff.Cheap drinks and amazing food
Richard Morphew: Great food, great customer service
Rob Harper: Ruined by the awful music.
Diana Giraldez: Nice beer
A Pugh: They have just started doing Pie, mash and liquor! Very generous portions for a very reasonable price. I’m fussy about mash, and this was smoooth! I had the vegetarian option with a lovely parsley sauce. Tasty! Meat and vegan options are available. Also, a great pub, locals and staff are super friendly. I will be back for a meat fix soon!
Conrad Browne: Nothing special really. Beer was alright, a bit oricey. Service was fine, no issues.
Оксана Закружевская: Спиртне розбавлене. Забігайлівка.
Dmitri Masinski: Abomination built on a 2000 years old historic monument. If you have such an honour, at least make it count with excellent service.
Jim Errington-brown: Staff and owner very caring and attentiveBest views in Colchester from terrace!!!!!!!Worth a visit or 2. Inexpensive!!!!!!
Sania Moore: Lovely pub if you want to go out and talk. We like to meet here before we go dancing or a pub crawl because it's quiet but not boring. They often have live music but the music is a little dated.
Luke Barber: Nice pub, handy for the Colchester Art Centre.
Dean Allen: Great friendly pub, really good range of beers - lots of 0% options for drivers! Sat on the terrace - great view.
Trevor Horton: Drinks very reasonable in compared to other town centre bars. Nice chill atmosphere, able to hear yourself think and chat, even with live band playing
michael Brown: It's lovely in the hole in the wall now sun's here cheep 🍻 no food but lovely people os friendly
Gail Threlfall: Beer ok, not really my sort of place but handy for the Art Centre
Leo Martini (Fawaz): If you are looking for charecter, friendly staff, and exotic gigs, that's a good choice
chubby chips: they put a hole in my asscheeks, i thought it was just a funny name
J Glu: Absolutely stunning views
Clint: Friendly bar staff
Alan Alexander: Lots of potential to be an outstanding pub.

The Bull: what do users think?
Mayer Levy: I lovely place to spend your night and meet new really nice people there.
Kyle Rubin: My fiancé had a special jacket stolen off her
Conrad Browne: Overpriced beer. £5.odd a pint.
Natalia Natalii: Highly recommended
Kay Clark: Has so much potential, great bands but awful staff. Bar staff completely ignoring us and serving other people who were there way after us, we waited 15 minutes then they came out side of the bar and serve some guy whose been waiting like 2 minutes - and they had to keep coming our side to use the till so damn well knew we were there. And sexist potentially perveted bouncers who didn't ID me as a women but ID'd my fiance (never happened before - either we both get ID'd or neither, I definitely look younger than him as I'm only 5ft1).Furthermore they ran out of 2 ciders and a beer on tap whilst we were there.Overall it completely ruined our night and we left early despite loving the band. Never had this experience as Coda and will go there for bands in the future. And hope to see the band it's not a phase mum elsewhere instead as will not be returning as had too many bad experiences here.
Niina Watson: Bouncer was really unfair man handled me and kicked me out alone with a dead phone
Adam Warr: Excellent for lovers of rock music
MARIUS LUCA: Cool 🤙
GAVIN LEIGHTON: A fabulously vibrant atmosphere, great Live music with a varied age group enjoying it.
jooolie nunn: Great venue
Terry Thompson: Good place for a drink also starting to do food
craig webb: Great pub great landlord but 1 downside pub music on a wk day evening just a little too loud other than that good place to socialise
Rory Welch: Top drawer boozer
Paul Stone: First time at this pub as not a Colchester local. A great pub, had live music on, pool table and great outside area to chill out in. Really great place to socialise and have a good evening. Will be back.
Aisea Sautu: Nice hideaway pub in a good location..
Tracey Kerridge: It got very crowded outside n I walk with a stick and got pushed about a bit not nice
scott farrow: Great Live Music.Decent Pint.
David Fletcher: Good bands Friday and Saturday night. Prices for drinks fair.
matthew kosti: Nice local pub. Good band
Robert Jago: Some live music. Slightly aggressive atmosphere. Expensive beer but reasonably priced shots. Ownership has changed hands many times over a short period.
#BOSS MAN BEN: Kind and friendly staff and it is a lovely quiet space. We have and use the bull as a place to meet up for our aspergers group. It's so lovely and cosy and it's just a lovely atmosphere.

Walkabout: what do users think?
Karen Scott: Great place to watch the football. Friendly staff
Joshua Paulin: This place is an utter cesspit. My girlfriend was needle spiked and has spent the night in A&E. If you have any sense of self worth stay away from this disgusting institution. Safe to say I will not be going to anymore Wednesday night karaoke.
Temidayo Folorunsho: Relaxation is guaranteed!
Carlos Collis: Good value would return
Joseph Storey: Amazing service from Jonhy! Definitely recommend!
Oneli Jayasinghe: Nice place good environment with chilled vibes.Have to mention about Eric, who was very helpful and very friendly.would recommend this place to freinds.
Petra Svobodová: Yesterday the place wasnt that busy. However, the bartenders were amazing, especially Eric.
Shanice Killops-smith: Eric was a legend!!!!!!
Oliver Willoughby: Eric is the most nicest person ever, he looks after everyone and gives us the best deals
Toby Taylor: Great service from the big Spanish man Eric pours a perfect pint!!!!! Un Poco!!!!
F S: Amazing! Eric is wonderful!
Mei Nishide: Eric is amazing.
Conor Bolton: Please walk in and then walk out. If you like fake themed bars full of idiots, expensive beer and harassed staff this place is for you. There's much better places than this to spend your money and time.
Biren Patel: Great place
B “Pearl” W: Really nice pub
Polly Val: it’s definitely the best place to come on a night out in colchester! Bar staff are friendly more so on less busy days and Olivia is so funny I’d go in just to talk to her
Saif Khan: Great service from Frayer
J Pad: It's good for sport. Loads of screens and multi-matches/sports being played at once.Staff are ok, wouldn't say they are the most amazingly friendly bunch but helpful enough. If I was going to suggest an improvement it would be staff/customer interaction - they could be friendlier/happier. I don't know if that's up to management to implement that or recruitment or the working conditions they are under.I come here a lot to watch sport so I can't complain too much, otherwise why would I keep coming back!
Libby Heyes: Came in on Thursday for a few drinks, the atmosphere was good, they had a dj and the staff were very helpful :)
Mahmoud Gonihm: I lived
DUK5TAH: the food was really good. drinks went down well service was really good. left just before it got to busy on new years eve.

The British Grenadier: what do users think?
Daniel Dean: Friendly staff, good ale.
heather crook: Good selection of well kept ales and ciders, plus a large selection of spirits, particularly unusual gins and whiskies. Usually fairly quiet on Wednesday evenings. It is only small and certainly not fancy but a friendly neighbourhood pub. It is one of the few still to have a poolroom. There is also a large outside courtyard with seating. Friendly bar staff, though I may be biased as he is my grandson. Nearly forgot that there is a jukebox playing very quietly in the background, not interfering with talking or reading the paper. Also shelves of books to borrow in the corridor leading to the loos and courtyard. Sorry Simon, forgot to mention the friendly landlord 😊
Andy Seaton: Very friendly pub. Great selection of beers. Great staff. Fab jukebox. Highly recommended.
Jon Neal: Weren’t open but I’m sure it’s too drawerI’ll be back
Ian Miller: Friendly atmosphere and very welcoming.
Daniel Ricardo: Lovely birds
Claire Irons: Friendly service from Simon as always .Good easy drinking boxed still ciders on the bar to try before you buy.Well kept real ales are always popular
Catherine Wyse: Simon (landlord) is a charming fella 😊 good choice of beer, ales etc Bruce the cat is also a friendly addition to a good night out at the British Grenadier
Dylan Read: A classic, local pub that focuses more on the beers and the craic than any other fad marketing wiff waff (!) The management are remarkably down to earth and would rather talk your ear off about beer than talk your ear off about payment, rules or regs. Pool table out back you can challenge the landlord to, if you're good enough...
Ingrid von Broen: Friendly service and outside garden space
Jenny Reeves: Always friendly and very relaxing.
Mark Honeywood: Weird but good to be back again.
Robert gwillim: One the best pubs in town.
Michael Pinchbeck: It's a proper pub with real ale.
paul mellor: Love the grennie, simon keeps a great pint and there's always a buzz
Ritchie Mann: Wonderful former Adnams pub.
Steve Humble: A most well appointed establishment with a fine selection of cask conditioned ales - absolutely splendid
Theresa Whybrow: Good little pub
Gareth Evans: Fabulous traditional old style proper real ale pub. Different beers every week and usually enough variety to suit all tastes. Good gin selection and Simon is an Iron Maiden fan. Plus the decorations of pump cards all over the walls means you can spend hours looking at all the different beers they've had on over the years.
Paul Turvey: Great local bar. Beer festival in November is a must-see
De Stap: Lekkere ale gedronken met vrienden. Gezellig druk

Andy Smith: Fantastic lunch at the Forrester's , the batter on the fish is out of this world. Perfect size portions and great friendliness from all the staff. Even dog friendly so another bonus as Luther loved being part of the experience.
Lloyd Armstrong: Excellent Pub great vibes pleasant staff , great selection of beers and lovely food ideal location when visiting Castle Park 5 Stars ⭐️
Mjr Cox: Nice traditional local. 2 regular ales, aspell cider and the usual lagers. More ale bottled (but refrigerated). Cheap food of large proportions and cheery staff
Georgina Friend-furneaux: Came across this place whilst on a weekend away. Darryl the manager was exceptionally friendly, gave advice and directions when requested. We were made to feel very welcome. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the vibe was great. Everyone was friendly. We went out of our way to return later in the day for food after seeing a selection come out earlier in the day. The food was hot, fresh and cooked to perfection. I don't normally write reviews but felt that this place deserved the time. Games were available to play, entertainment nights were clearly displayed. Both family and adult friendly. Very professional and kind.Couldn't recommend more and hope to return on our next break away xx

Purple Dog: what do users think?
Andrew Faithfull: This is a great town centre bar that serves delicious food. I have used this bar for quite some time and it never disappoints - whether visiting during the day, for some food, or meeting friends in the evening for a drink.During a recent visit, we enjoyed the food that we ate: fish and chips and the stuffed cheese burger. The burger was excellent because the beef was good quality and it was cooked very slightly pink. It also had a chilli jam relish that accompanied the rest of the burger very well. What was noticeable was how happy the staff looked and the service couldn't be faulted. The bar is dog friendly and even when our clumsy labrador knocked over his water bowl, clearing things up was not an issue. The Purple Dog caters for visitors from all walks of life and the atmosphere is also friendly and relaxed. In the evening, they have security staff but I have never seen any trouble. It is one of the few Colchester town centre pubs that serve Ghost Ship which is also an added bonus.I would highly recommend this bar.
Karen Scott: Met some really friendly locals. Friendly staff
Carlos Collis: Like it
Terry Thompson: It's a great place food is good. Recommend
Brian Hawkins: The curly fries are great. The other food offerings are not too bad. The atmosphere is classic old British Pub. It's always got a clientele but is not a hectic place. Nice place for meeting up with friends for a chat. The location on an old commercial lane is rather quaint. If I had one desire, I do wish they had a more inspired beer selection.
andy doyle: Quiet but welcoming when we went in for a couple of drinks on a Monday afternoon. Well situated for Colchester town centre.
Roy Bird: What a great friendly pub. Loved it for a quick drink in town.
Tim Redfearn: This a great dog friendly pub with good quality food and service
T Red: Nice pub good food happy friendly staff
Mark Archer: Excellent service and friendly staff
Víctor R: The place is lovely but expect severe delays if you’re ordering food. 40 minute wait on average.
Mark Akiens: Good town centre pub
Billy Walton: Grabbed a non alcoholic beer and a full fat coke for my boy!! Atmosphere food and drinks are always fantastic in the Purple dog! Highly recommend
Franklin Vargas: Great, nice food
A B: Cute pub with nice historic accents. The food was really good for pub food. The grilled chicken wrap was nice and my husband loved the triple burger. Would definitely go back again if we are in Colchester.
Richard Barkess: Good better than when it was the Clarence year's ago. Good night.
Ro: Terrible roast dinner - would not recommendI have been here many times before with my husband and friends for drinks, but we had never tried the food. Decided to stop in late afternoon for a Sunday roast. Pictures on previous reviews looked amazing. Sadly it was very disappointing. Had the roast chicken, chicken was fine, that was about it. Vegetables overcooked and mushy, roast potatoes not crispy (looked like bit of burnt crispy outer had been removed, so left with a boiled potato essentially), cauliflower cheese in a pot and not cooked (Raw cauliflower , cold cheese) and a Yorkshire pud that anyone should have been too embarrassed to put on the plate, as it was a soggy flat undercooked pancake.Giving 2 stars purely for bar Staff and atmosphere. Will be back for drinks, not for the food!
Andy Hoare: Large city centre pub, very quiet on the evening we popped in. Mid January and on a Monday, so that was no surprise.
Sandy Fullbrook: Food not great and over priced
Sue Meddows: Went for lunch and the meal and staff was brilliant thanks 😊
Helen Eustace: Friendly pub atmosphere. Good lunch.

Three Wise Monkeys: what do users think?
Riordan: Some of the food is okay but the fries were simply not worth it and buttermilk chicken was a bit burnt. They have a good selection of drinks for a good price though! However it is always busy here, if you like a quiet sit down drink you'll have to find the right time and day for this.
Chris Lee: Great service
darron welch: Nice atmosphere in here, good to go somewhere busy with professional staff. Menu is pretty decent and the food looks good. This place has built up over time and has a great reputation .
wayne hammond: Such a good night, can't wait to visit again
James Fogg: Good range of beers, relaxed atmosphere. Fair prices too. Big mix of age groups rather than specialist to just one type of customer. The new brewery section is a bit quieter than the main bar and has interesting drinks that can't be found elsewhere. Well priced food options also available in a separate restaurant area on the second floor.
Lisa Churchill: Service slow, had to call someone over. No drinks offered. Worst chips I've ever eaten. It was like the left overs that had gone hard and been re fried.
Smith- Ogg: Amazing food, unique alcohol choices and nice vibe
Alfie Orford: Very unusual water Inlett piping system to washing facilities in toilet
Mike King: Never been in but looks a nice place from outside
andrew Garrard: Very good selection of beers
Michael Higgs: Good Food good service.
anthony heusner: Food cremated. Slow service. Not much to say really. Surprise it still open
Jeff Lucas: Caught my eye as a cool place, nice for a daytime drink and looks like it's also a music venue at night. Would definitely visit again!
David Harrington: Great pub, good food
Paul Younger: Brilliant place. Service was excellent and the beers really good. Ordered some wings as well, they had great flavour and was really tasty. Overall a great place to stop for a beer and something to eat🙂
Shaun McCormick: It is better for a few drinks and bite than at night time. The top floor venue is really good if the live band is good.
Sioux Jordan: Friendly staff, good coffee, Disability access and toilet.
Darren Richards: Great food, eccellent range of beers and spirits. Terrific decor, What more do you want from a bar?
Damian Grove: Nice food and beer at fair price
Lee Jones: Pricey, food was not great, got our order wrong and as part of a group some had to wait 20 mins after others had received their food. Also had to refund our deposits so we had to pay for it all again! Would not go back.
