The Tollgate Practice: what do users think?
E E
E E: This surgery doesn't seem to book appointments on the day by phone anymore, I have been 1st in the queue multiple times and there is always nothing, or only telephone appointments over a week later or they offer appointments in silly locations. You have to call 1-2 weeks before you want an appointment. You can't get through on phone to cancel an appointment if you can't attend. It seems the only way to get is to show up from 7am at the door to queue and if you cannot do that you can't have one on the day.I have also been told many times to go to a and e when it's not been appropriate.
londonlonglegs
londonlonglegs: Rude reception staff! AlwaysTotal lack of appointmentsI’m so disappointed with what this surgery has become.I don’t ever want to to bother going there for anything anymore the whole experience is off putting.
Carly Stokes
Carly Stokes: Dear sir/madam,I feel compelled to send this email to say a huge thank you to Amie who did my daughters blood test this morning. She made sure that she had a prescription ready for her magic cream that we applied beforehand. She was absolutely fantastic with her, chatted with her to put her at ease as it’s pretty scary having a blood test when you are little. She even drew smiley faces on her plasters. What a lovely kind lady and an absolute credit to the practice.Thank you so so much!
Tracey Tucker
Tracey Tucker: Can’t fault this surgery been patients for many years but husband had a serious health scare last week and they went above and beyond to see him will forever be thankful to them they are always polite when I phone and always do whatever they can to help we are very lucky to have such a supportive surgery thank you to you all
David Potticary
David Potticary: I can’t recommend this surgery highly enough! Had a bad infection last year and was seen within hours of my phone call. My husband and daughter have also had amazing customer experience from the staff. Very efficient and caring practice.
marie watson
marie watson: I called this practice on the 30th December AM to ask for an appointment to see a GP or nurse. I had been unwell for a couple of weeks and explained that I had fainted a couple of times. The reply was "well if that's the case you need to go to A&E" She then went on to say "no appointments today tomorrow next week" I was waiting for her to say in fact none at all next year. Her whole attitude was annoyance that I called at all. No empathy just cold and dismissive. Disgusting attitude from this woman.Just to add I have also experienced friendly service from receptionists.
Big G
Big G: Truly the most appalling GP practice in Colchester. Have had a persistent cough for six weeks now with no sign of it abating on its own - so I'm hardly a excessively demanding patient - and their response? Go to A&E.This is why the NHS is broken. This kind of disastrous practice management would never have been allowed during Dr Spooner's days.
Shaun Dee
Shaun Dee: I absolutely cannot believe the incompetency of this Surgery. Not only should it be shut down for good, the staff should all be banned from working in a caring facility ever again. If you're reading these reviews whilst contemplating whether to sign up to this surgery or not, the only thing I can say is, you would have better luck taking your child to visit Jimmy Saville for a check up. It's astonishing that this place even exists and their go to response to ANY query is ''We have no appointments available, if it's that bad, go to A&E.''An absolutely pathetic excuse for a doctors surgery.
Amanda Armstrong
Amanda Armstrong: Staff are always willing to help and go that extra mile.
Alison Fish
Alison Fish: My experiences since joining Tolgate Surgery 12+ years ago have always been very good but most recently following a visit by Dr Hannah whilst feeling very poorly with a chest infection they were exceptional. I appreciate how difficult things are at this busy time but Dr Hannah went out of her own to ensure I was checked and given the correct medication before the New Year break. She has followed up to ensure I also get the after care. It shows dedication to the health of the patient at a time I regularly hear complaints from friends and family. I am extremely grateful to be with this surgery and thankful to doctors like Dr Hannah.
elle
elle: Lost my hearing was told no appointments. Told to go to a&e which was a 12 hour wait and my son is disabled so wouldn’t of been able to sit there that long. Not helpful. Rude receptionist. Ended up going private. What’s the point in being registered at a doctors when you can’t ever get an appointment! No wonder a&e is that long of a wait when that’s the solution the GP receptionist is giving!!!!
Vikki Hancock
Vikki Hancock: Manager and reception staff were brilliant at helping me out after just coming out of hospital and been given the run around at out patients they went above and beyond to help I cannot thank them enough x
Denise Smith
Denise Smith: Recently i have had to use the surgery on many occasions with an ongoing problem, i have nothing but praise for the receptionists & the GP that has been helping me, it has also been so much easier to get through on the telephone.
Beverley Wong
Beverley Wong: My family and I have been registered with this practice for about a year or so and we have nothing but praise for the surgery, I am really surprised to see some of the reviews. I have always found staff to be polite, knowledgeable, super helpful and go out of their way to help us. I've never had to be on hold for very long before speaking to someone. Staff always help you to get to the bottom of things even if they don't know the answer immediately. I've made several appointments (with HCAs, nurses and doctors) and all have been very professional. Thank you for your great service.
Matt Covey
Matt Covey: Pretty good. They have always answered the phone when I call. I like the waiting room system. Iv not had any problems. They should get the fish at reception a bigger tank 🐠
Iona Melo
Iona Melo: My daughter has been trying to book an appointment for over two months. And it had not worked. She works full time, has had seizure, is dyslexic cane in abs receptionist, a guy was so uninterested, unsympathetic, unhelpful. Not just to her but previous Custoner/ client, patient too. People don’t come to GO FIR A PARTY, they need help.
SARAH DADVAR
SARAH DADVAR: Reception and Nursing staff always so helpful . much gratitudeSarah Dadvar
JoJo Boateng
JoJo Boateng: So surprised to read all the bad reviews about this surgery. I moved to Colchester about 6 months ago and have probably attended The Tollgate Practice about 3 times plus a few telephone appointments, and every encounter has been absolutely great. So not sure if I've just been lucky or had low expectations after being used to GP services in London! However what was outstanding was the service I received from Marie the nurse today. The fact that I am writing a review about a Smear test shows how in shock I am. I had an evening appointment to have a Smear test, which I had actually put off for over a year due to my two previous bad experiences. Every woman can attest to how uncomfortable this examination is but Marie was sooo gentle, I hardly felt a thing and was super quick. She really put me at ease and was so lovely, I genuinely didn't know a Smear could be this painless. I would genuinely recommend requesting Marie if you have anxiety about Smears.Thank you for making this examination so pleasant :)
maria trif
maria trif: This surgery is a shame!!!the receptionist, most of them, especially the old lady s are very, but very rude with the patiens.I don't really understand how they are still open after so many complaints.
Rhiannon Dishman
Rhiannon Dishman: Very disappointed. Booked for a mental health assessment to be done and was told by the receptionist that there was an appointment at 8.30am the next day. So went along to the appointment with my 4 month old baby to be told that the appointment was not until Tuesday. But I double checked with the receptionist and he definitely said tomorrow.
Kirsty Marie
Kirsty Marie: Fabulous service From a lovely nurse practitioner this morning. My son had an appointment at 9.00am and the nurse assured me she would ring the appropriate people and book my son an appointment. By 3.00pm I have had a phone call and have the appointment booked for next week.Could not fault them!

Colchester Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic: what do users think?
Liam Pimenta
Liam Pimenta: Really Friendly and very professional! Would recommend.
Matt L
Matt L: Both Craig & Carl were fantastic whilst helping me recover from ACL reconstruction. Getting me back playing football quicker than I could have hoped. Would highly recommend to anyone for any sports related injuries or otherwise
Banks Cartoons
Banks Cartoons: First class! Craig diagnosed and treated my sports injury thoroughly and compassionately...and excellent exercise programs with very helpful online video explainers. Highly recommend.
Daniel Gardner
Daniel Gardner: After being comfortable doing 5k runs I started training for my first half marathon on the 3rd January, on the 5th of February I did serious damage to my left meniscus and after a week of not being able to do stairs and then limping for another I had a consultation with Craig on the 19th February. With only six weeks I thought I had no chance, but he worked out a strengthening and running program which I followed and on my second consultation two weeks later he said I would not need any more consultations. I ran the London landmarks half on 3rd April without so much as twinge. I cannot recommend the clinic and Craig highly enough as I came away feeling inspired and really pleased with the whole experience..
Becky 1998
Becky 1998: Went to this clinic for the first time as I had a problem with my knee, unsure what it was and Craig was amazing. Told me the problem straight away and set me a 8 week plan. The pain in my knee had been going on for so long I wasnt sure anything was going to work. Within 6 weeks I was pain free walking up the stairs again and after 9ish weeks I was discharged. Completely amazing experience and the receptionists I met were always so friendly as well. Really thankful to you all. (Rebecca S)
Steve Streeting
Steve Streeting: Superb, friendly service. Craig took me through several weeks of physio for my damaged knee and got me running again. I can’t recommend them highly enough!
Lorraine Coleman
Lorraine Coleman: I went to Craig initially with a foot injury, that I had seen 3 Podiatrists and an Orthopaedic Surgeon about, but who had not been able to really help me. Craig diagnosed the problem very quickly and offered advice and some physical help, that has seen me well on my way to recovery. I also told him about a problem with my neck and although it not something that can be cured, with his advice and again some physical manipulation, I am now managing the pain a lot better.
Alice Rowe
Alice Rowe: Started working with Craig on an ankle injury. He took the time to complete a full assessment with me and advise on what support could be offered. Every session I felt listened to and was given exercises to make progress. Absolutely brilliant service, 100% would recommend!
Nikki Bryant
Nikki Bryant: I can't recommend Craig and the team highly enough. I've received excellent support following a recent sports injury - from swift injury assessment to immediate treatment and rehab..The guidance and feedback between visits via the easy to use tracker has been invaluable. I really hadn't expected to be returning to golf & running so soon! Thank you 🙂 👍🏻
Roy Thorn
Roy Thorn: After suffering groin pain for the best part of a year, I decided it was time to get some help.I booked an appointment with Craig who diagnosed hip impingement, he demonstrated a group of exercises and watched me perform them. After carrying out theses exercises twice a day for 7 week and 3 physio sessions my pain has gone from a 7/10 down to 1, a couple more weeks and I am pretty sure the pain will be gone completely.I would recommend Craig to anyone with any sort of pain or injury.Great service and friendly staff.
Andrew Neill
Andrew Neill: Craig was great at identifying the issue with my Achilles and sympathetic to the fact that as a 53 year old i still wanted to play football. after 3 sessions i was back and i am grateful to him and his great admin team. despite covid all ran smoothly. i would recommend him wholeheartedly
Cinthya Villalobos
Cinthya Villalobos: I went to Craig because I had pain in my wrists and elbows while typing on the computer or gaming. After the first session he gave me a set of exercises to do daily on my own time. I was able to see and feel the results quickly. After a few months I have recovered to full strength in my arms. I would 100% recommend Colchester Physiotherapy.
Martin Tapper
Martin Tapper: Intensive sport, sedentary occupation and age = pain. Fortunately Craig and his team have been on hand to sort out my back, then my knee, then my kneck...Whatever comes next I will be back again as their expertise has got me back up and running every time.Thoroughly recommend anyone check out limb and joint pain with Craig
Wendy Robinson
Wendy Robinson: Excellent physio.....very helpful withe super treatment....hygiene through Covid second to none
Jason Monaghan
Jason Monaghan: Great service from the initial inquiry. With first treatment and about 1 week of doing the given exercises through their app my injury was pretty much sorted.
Craig Nairn
Craig Nairn: Craig has helped me with my lower back disc problem and has worked with me to get me moving again.Craig has been professional and knowledgeable through out working at a pace that has both suited and helped me, taking me with him through the process.I would highly recommend him.
Gloria Clark
Gloria Clark: I have visited Craig on different occasions and every time he has worked his magic after which I have only needed two sessions with him. He is so easy to get on with and has a great sense of humour. I would recommend him to anyone which I have done in the past. I am so pleased that he has moved closer to where I live with parking facilities.
richard trinder
richard trinder: Excellent treatment. Asked the right questions. Diagnosed the problem. Explained what need doing to correct the situation. Demonstrated the exercises needed. Problem solved.
andre palmer
andre palmer: I have been to see Craig many times over the years and he is always professional and friendly. His knowledge is outstanding and really understands sports injury. He always does a full analysis and you really feel you get value for money. The new (to me anyway) TrackActive app really helps with the inevitable exercise routine - which in my experience is the hardest part of going to a physio - doing the exercises! The app gives you the exercises with videos and timer built in through each exercise.
Alacoque York
Alacoque York: I have just completed a course of physio with Craig regarding a Bursitis in my shoulder. He is extremely kind, understanding and was willing to listen to all my moans and groans!Craig’s knowledge and expertise in diagnosing my problem was excellent. He explained everything clearly in each physio session and it was so helpful to receive follow up exercises on line which helped me continue my rehabilitation. All Covid-19 precautions are undertaken professionally and I felt very safe every visit. Annette is a cheerful, friendly member of the team armed with her temperature monitor as she meets and greets.Thank you Craig for your expertise, kindness and brilliant treatment. You are a Star!I would thoroughly recommend Craig and his team to everyone.
Alex H
Alex H: I cant thank Craig enough :) After 18 months+ of persistent shoulder pain and 2 other physios trying to help, after just 2 sessions I felt normal again. He quickly identified the problem and gave me suitable exercises to correct it. Completely COVID safe with full PPE in use. I will not hesitate to use him again if another injury arises, highly recommended. Thank you.

Oaks Hospital: what do users think?
Steph Oliver
Steph Oliver: Terrible service from the reception, secretary and doctor. And I have to pay for it. Never again.
Phil
Phil: Extremely unhappy. Total Care promise does not cover diagnostics tests they are forcing me to get part way through my treatment. The second half of my surgery was due to go ahead over 2 months ago but they have effectively held the rest of my treatment ransom until I pay for more scans out of my own pocket. The hospital promised me the £4,000 i spent would be a total care plan however this is certainly not the case. Please avoid this hospital at all costs. p.s this wasn’t the only issue, my emails have been ignored for weeks on end and only replied to when emailing the head office!! Adam Howard is the surgeon and Megan Wood is his secretary. Terrible service and I am currently looking elsewhere for another surgeon to finish my treatment. Nightmare experience!!
Ryan O'Sullivan
Ryan O'Sullivan: Had my MRI scan here went OK, was seen very quickly without any problems.
Colin Rose
Colin Rose: I was meant to have a hernia operation under a consultant based at Oaks Hospital three months ago. The operation was cancelled due to a discrepancy on my ecg. I have had several tests since and they have all come back as satisfactory. I am still waiting for a date for my op and there seems to be no urgency from the consultant. I am very unhappy with this situation and can't believe that this is the standard of private healthcare.
Samanta Karpinska
Samanta Karpinska: Loads of delays…i waited for an hour before I was called in! Me and my partner felt extremely judged from the way the doctor was looking at us and the way he was speaking. The doctor didn’t seem to want to help us and completely dismissed us! Would definitely not recommend!
Richard Hexton
Richard Hexton: Performed Operation for Spinal Canal Stenosis Before I had no feeling in my left leg afterwards completely cured and feel all sensations Absolutely amazing and all pain on thighs and legs have gone after OperationMany thanks indeed you have changed my life Richard Hexton
Venom Hunter
Venom Hunter: Great staff but shocking after care, had double hernia and just told to go back to my doctors but I think it because the nhs paid I didn’t wouldn’t recommend based on that.
Zoe Magor
Zoe Magor: My partner had hernia surgery here today. Cannot fault the smooth operation of procedures, or the very helpful efficient staff. Clean, comfortable, and relaxed. The receptionists are also incredibly helpful! Made a very nervous patient and visitor feel more at ease.
Dave Kendall
Dave Kendall: At first looked very good and the staff were lovely, but when I saw my consultant he turned up 40mins late I was only the "second appointment" he didn't have the time to see me properly and only gave me 7mins to do a quick assessment and then told me to put up it.After that the consultant sent a letter saying I should adapt and how he couldn’t see how my problem would affect me in my life & work. "of which he knew nothing about.Which is why I was in the first place months ago. All in All--- wasted months off work with no pay for nothing."How ever the physio department tried hard and run to time.I am sure they benefit alot of people. "Disappointed is the feeling" regarding the consultant....Added 5 months later still trying to adapt.
Geoff Catchpole
Geoff Catchpole: Good thoughtful care.
Rahmonjon Boqiyev
Rahmonjon Boqiyev: Hi Oaks Hospital Team. Thank you for your service. How can I contact you by email or any social platform?
Sue Lockwood
Sue Lockwood: Just like to thank everyone who cared for me while I was in for a hip replacement.Thank you for looking after me and all were very kind could not wish for nicer staff.
Amanda Holland
Amanda Holland: Caring staff, friendly and clean hospital. 2nd visit in 3 years
Heather Eady
Heather Eady: I had a scan over 4 weeks ago and still not had the results or a follow up appointment or anyone contact me. I have called them twice and get told by the very blunt people that answer the phone that I just have to wait! Sorry but is this because I am an NHS patient? I have never had to wait this long for results for anything. Not impressed.I would not recommend
Mark Rushbrook
Mark Rushbrook: Just had full knee replacement staff are amazing best hospital l have ever been in thanks to all staff
Becky Gove
Becky Gove: I can’t rate The Oaks high enough. I had an operation at The Oaks recently and everything from the initial appointment to the aftercare was first class. I would highly recommend
Braiswick Tyres ltd
Braiswick Tyres ltd: I want to say a very Big Thankyou to Surgeon Mr Wardle for myoperation for a Total Hip Replacement. I Also would like to thank , Laura , the Anaesthetists, nurses especially Gabi, Physio's Beth, and Marcin, Canteen Staff , Cleaners, Receptionists, and all FIRST CLASS HOSPITAL AND STAFF many thanks Phil Chappell.
Linda Hannant
Linda Hannant: I would like to thank every member of staff who was looking after me on 4th of july for a total knee replacement. From the first call all the way to coming home, excellent service from everyone.Very happy staff and a very well done to all.I would recommend this hospital to anyone, the care received is second to none.Hospital at it's finest. Many thanksLinda.
Arpit PATEL
Arpit PATEL: Called today to book a private dermatology appointment and got one booked for a month's time. Only to be called back several hours later informing me it would be a video appointment for the same price. The operator should have advised me of this at the start. Inexperienced.
Donna Hunn
Donna Hunn: The day before my husband's scheduled operation he received a vmail to call the hospital. He did so only to be told that his private operation had been cancelled due to the lack of an anesthetist being available. He was given a new date of 1 week later and told that hopefully the op would be able to go ahead then. Bearing in mind it has taken almost 3 months to get to this point. We are shocked and very unhappy about it.!
Jan Hopkins
Jan Hopkins: I can't phrases the oaks enough. I was looked after so well all the staff were so kind. I had my knee replacement on the 23/5/22. I had never stayed in hospital before they put my mind at rest. Thank you.

K E B: This pharmacy used to be great several months ago. Today I finally had enough. The service is appalling, they take forever trying to find your medication if they have actually filled it out and they keep you waiting forever, you are insignificant to them.
