Andy Munro: I was recommended this place as I'm just here for one night. I had the chicken laksa takeaway. Very generous portions. About fifteen quid, so not expensive but not cheap. However, really delicious. Nice big pieces of tasty chicken and a lovely coconut sauce. Excellent. Hopefully the gig will go well and we'll come back here another time. Thanks. Oh, and very friendly staff. Good atmosphere in the eat in part.

Bernardo da Silva: The food was average. I come from London so the demand for good food is high. This would be a three star review restaurant in London for the dishes I tried. I had king prawn pad thai and for starters I went for the barbecue pork ribs. The pad thai was just lacking that slight flavor that leaves you drooling for more. Maybe that slight hint of MSG missing? The ribs were good.I might have come across as grumpy but the staff are a happy smiling bunch. So that's a positive!
Juliet Crossley: Quick service, cosy atmosphere, delicious food! I had the Bulgogi Beef rice bowl ( it was amazing! Highly recommend this noodle bar it's great. Dominika Michalowska: At first glance the restaurant looks amazing and feels very sophisticated but when you're waiting over an hour for two mains, the charm fades. We arrived about half an hour ahead of our reserved slot but were still able to be seated. We ordered two cocktails and a starter to begin and ordered our main not long after. This was when things turned downhill with us having to wait over an hour from our resreved time slot to get our food. It was a painful wait, watching everyone around us recieving their food.By the time the food got there, it wasn't even impressive. The steak was very tough to cut through and the fries portions were very small. With everything costing us over £100, we were unable to finish our meal sincee we were in a rush.
adam fagan: Excellent Food and Gareth was friendly and accommodating
Connor Brady: First time at Mimosa and despite reading some poor reviews, our experience was overall very good. Both food and drinks were at price points I’d expect and generally all was very nice. An issue I did have is the amount of beef given with the starter version of the beef brisket dish. For the amount charged I’d expected more, which was a shame considering what I did receive was rather tasty. We were seated not to far from the toilets and unlike some previous reviews, we weren’t fazed by any smell; couldn’t even detect it. Staff were friendly and service was quick, just a shame about the starter, really. Free parking behind the place on weekends.Parking: Free parking available on weekends behind establishment.
Iain: Really nice food and quick to serve, food was delicious!
Ricky Gordan: Great atmosphere, stylish interior, well prepared food.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Louise Hamilton: Been there a few times now and I can honestly say the best thing about this place is the coffee. Food is poor along with the service.Don’t waste your money there is plenty of better places to eat. Such a shame.
Mayer Levy: Me and my friends had amazing time in Mimosa today. Great atmosphere, high level of style, delicious and well prepared food. There was a beautiful, intelligent and nice lady named Jodie that she looked very well after us. A great service.I strongly recommend this place to everyone.Kind regards: Mayer

Ingrid Sestak: Can’t fault the food or the service but so very badly let down by the very smelly dirty loos
Matt Manikam: We came here for mother's day and had a fantastic time. The service was excellent and friendly. The food was perfectly cooked My mum and I had the lamb which was tender and delicious. My dad had the roast which was huge. All in all, we had a great time and my mum felt suitably spoilt.
Jo Westwood: One of my favourite restaurants. Great food and service.Recommended dishes Welsh Lamb Rump, Halloumi Fries, Pan Fried Sea Bass …More

Louis Russell: Has an amazing atmosphere! Elegant, comforting yet not too much. The food was amazing along with the service. Recommend a taxi as the cocktails are something else.
Christabelle Bennet: We had an excellent breakfast here on valentines day, classy and tasteful decor gives the restaurant a lovely ambience, I look forward to sitting in their garden when the summer comes.Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Mind Blaster (JSC Gamer): I am an 18 year old who worked here about a year ago. I joined in the summer and filled in all the necessary contracts and once i completed them i was offered a shift which was an all day shift. I was expected to be paid £50 but after that shift they never contacted me again. The manager at the time ignored my calls so i decided to go in at ask for my pay but the manager said that he had to contact ‘head office’ in order for them to pay me. I have recently been in and i was told that i have to call ‘head office’ myself and when i did only one person was in the office who didn’t know how to help me. This is ridiculous specially from a top and profound restaurant.
Christopher Blomeley: Food: 4/5|Service: 4/5|Atmosphere: 3/5More
Kyiraan Boyle-smart: Valentines food poisoningMe and my pregnant partner had a meal a mimosa for valentines, the food was nice but after I finished my main meal I started to feel sick around 20-30 mins after. I had to rush to the toilet leaving my partner for 40 min at the table with my card to pay, while I was throwing up my dinner. I had no alcohol that evening either and was treated like I was drunk. I will not be coming back here. I’m just glad it was me not my pregnant girlfriend that got food poisoning. I had the herb crusted lamb rump for my main and I do not recommend. As a result of food poisoning it ruined the rest of our evening and also I wasn’t able to go to work the next day.

S G (Rock on): Attractive riverside location and would be a lovely hotel if not so obviously run on a shoestring. Clearly understaffed (although staff tried very hard to deliver on service despite this) and in need of some refurbishment.Having said all the above the beds were very comfortable, there were some cosy public areas in which to relax and unwind and the staff were friendly.Food & drinks: We were warned, by another guest, that the food was bad but although breakfast lacked variety it was tasty and well cooked.
Caminos SAS: Lugar adecuado.El extractor del baño no funciona. Al igual que el funcionamiento del calentador del cuarto, no funciona el control o regulador de temperatura. Brewster Joanne: Basic hotel clean and tidy.Slept well.Staff polite friendlyLocation was just right; attending concert
Lee Murray-King: You get what you pay for.Serves a purpose for 1 night stay.
Gerry Pearson: Went here with pre paid two night stay and was asked for further 25pounds as pre-authorised payment, for what. I never got to find out because all the receptionist kept repeating was the pre-authorised payment. Asked to speak to manager and she then went away only to return without him/her. I would not pay any money and another person appeared and to my amazement relayed that the manager had not been in at all that day. Have stayed there many times before and never had any problems but I will never stay there again.Such a shame as there used to be very good staff there but on this occasion I really don't know what was going on.I left without staying and lost my money as I will not pay for something that I've already paid for.
Giovan Cordella: I was expecting a room with a lake view instead we have a building site view other than that everything else was as expected. The bedroom iwas decent and the bed super king and very comfortable. They do a very attractive happy hour from 4 to 6, a large wine for £2.50 not bad at all.Rooms: Clean room with extra large comfortable bed. The bathroom had a bath tub which could have been replaced with a more modern shower. Overall good value for money.
Rachael Davey: Rooms were clean and comfortable, on par with Premier Inn.Had to request heating to be turned on at reception.Breakfast was dire on Saturday, one poor lady running restaurant and cooking, hardly any food/drink put out we had to ask several times for things. I felt really sorry for her. She did her best and was still cheerful.Sunday was better, more staff, more food options, although items still missing.Reception was unmanned, so I was unable to report the blocked sink early in the day. Did report early evening and was offered another room.Restaurant very quiet in evening despite car park being full. Vegan burgers were very tasty. However, there was no vegan cheese, salad, or sauce with it.Canelloni was very nice .The hotel has a nice interior and looks very welcoming apart from self service check in machine, which we were unable to work onThis could be a lovely hotel if it wasn't run on a shoe string .
George Bourne: I beg anyone who is thinking of staying here with a car not to do it.I registered my vehicle at reception when I stayed in October 2022. 3months later I receive a letter saying the bailiffs were coming to my house for a parking charge for a ticket I did not receive.I have called up multiple times, each time they ask for the “PCN” number but nothing is carried out.

Mark Ovel: Very nice looking hotel, rooms big enough, bar and lounge area very nice and cosy.Staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful.Free parking if you are staying at the hotel.Patio area over looking a lake which would be lovly in the summer, I went in January still looked nice but to cold to sit outside. The only negative I would say about the room was in bathroom there is a towel heater and it was damaged, it was taped up which looked horrible as its the first thing u see when you walk into bathroom. But it's a little thing nothing bad about the hotel or Staff. Bed was good with tv mounted on wall in front of bed.Would definitely go back there

brett king: Arrived and spoke to reception to check in and they couldn't find me on the system! Later that night at 10:30pm I had a knock on my door by a staff member asking who I am! Also was looking forward to the curry night advertised on a leaflet in my room only to find that its not possible as the restaurant is closed due to a booked party! Breakfast was average at best, No sauces left out for food, staff seemed disinterested.

Claire Strong: Lovely setting, dog friendly ,we had a Sunday roast ,food was nice ,only thing was our plates were full of roast potatoes there was no room to add our vegetables which came in a separate bowl and you get the smallest bowl of gravy ,if you need more (which we did) you get charged £2.50 ,the amount was equivalent to 2 egg cups full ,which for the extra cost was rather over priced.
Natalie Tuckwell: Uncle David said: "The most delicious buffet I've ever tasted."We enjoyed a lovely family afternoon at The Whalebone, and were able to reserve a seated area. At the last minute a few days before, I requested some gluten-free and vegetarian options to the buffet, realising there probably wasn't enough time. The chef was fantastic: she added two different types of home-cooked gluten-free vegetarian pies, plus some great filling salads which included lentils and feta cheese.Other family members said the fish and meat dishes were really tasty. I would recommend that if you'd like something vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten-free, you ask in advance and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Dave Bishop: Had an amazing Sunday Roast. The three young ladies working the bar worked tirelessly and provided good service
sonny: Probably one of the best roast I've ever eatenChef come out to help with some dietary requirements, really nice genuine bloke, super helpful and professional. Can't wait to eat here again
Steve Chase: Friendly, professional and great food. Highly recommend the Whalebone
Grant Robinson: Absolutely Fabulous
Clyde Baker: Brilliant / trad gastro pub
wildfilly89: The food was OK, not worth the hour long wait between ordering & receiving or the price. Shan't be going back anytime soon.
Pauline Archer: Food was great, will go back soon
Elizabeth James: First time here. Young lady was lovely and helpful. Food was amazing. Would highly recommend.
Tim Kershaw: A lovely setting and nice atmosphere. A good menu and a cut above ‘pub grub’. Attentive staff. The filet steak was good if not exceptional.
Keith Parrott: This is everything a really good village pub should be. Tables of locals in for drink, with visitors like us in for dinner. The fresh cooked food and service is excellent. Only a short drive from Colchester not difficult to find. Looking forward to our next visit. 😊👍🥩
Natasha Cleverdon: I’ve been to this pub/restaurant many times and have always been impressed. Today I took my family to show it off to them as they travelled to see us from Milton Keynes.Never been so embarrassed and disappointed. Told the family they were in for a treat and got let down badly. We were a table of 6. 4 adults and 2 kids. Red flags were there from the start. They’d messed up our booking and given our resevered table to someone else. Then we we asked to order we were told they couldn’t take our order for 15 minutes! When we finally ordered it was 2:45pm. Our food still had not arrived an hour later! We asked the staff what was going on and they all seemed confused. When I asked to speak to the manager about our disappointment the manager wouldn’t talk to me.I was then told our food was coming. However, we all ordered steak and chips and some ordered rare and some medium. The meat was grey and dry! It wasn’t what we ordered. The family was tired, hungry and extremely disappointed. We complained again and still no manager to talk with us!We didn’t pay for our food as only ate the chips. They were good chips but what a disappointment. We left and took the kids to McDs.Really shocked at how bad we were treated today and how there was a lack of communication. As I have said I’ve bee. Here many times before and never had a bad meal but today was awful. Not sure how I feel about ever returning. Such a shame as the location is lovely.
John Humpston: really good food with excellent service
Mohammed Peeroo: Fish and chips were dripping in oil. Poor execution.
Daniel Waite: Had a wonderful meal and drink sitting in the garden overlooking beautiful countryside. Value for money!!!The staff were very friendly and attentive, lovely touch having the blankets available to take out into the garden as it was a little fresh when the sun went behind the clouds. Thank you for a lovely afternoon, will be coming back very soon!Revisited with family, had another wonderful meal. Sat outside under the new canopy platformed dining area which sheltered from the sun on a beautiful day.The owner and staff very friendly and helpful as on our previous visits.Thank you again xxx
Emma Killick: Really expensive and the staff aren't the friendliest
Ermanno Cattaneo: Friendly staff, very nice beer garden.
Sky God: Beautiful place. Very friendly staff too.
cathy wright: Lovely pub, lovely setting, lovely food but only one toilet????
Howard Springall: Poor service and rude and dismissive owner.
