Colchester Country Park: what do users think?
Robert Lloyd: Great site to stay on, June and her team deliver a great friendly service. The facilities are always clean even during peak times. The disabled wet room is bright, clean and a large area with a good layout. Over the Easter there were events disco and Easter hunt arranged for all of the people on site. Fully deserved its 5 star status.
mike howells: Great campsite really helpful staffService: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Lisa Adams: Very friendly welcome, clean facilities, nicely laid out with level pitches. A12 a bit noisy at times. Stayed March 2023, would stay again.Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5 …More
Scott Ellis: Park well sign posted easy to find. Reception very helpful and security very good. We'll laid out pitches, BUT very noisy from A12 which is next to site might be better in summer when hedges and trees in leaf to subdue the road noise. Shower blocks and toilets clean if a little dated. Overall site well maintained but road noise may put some off.
148 Julie: ‘Country Park’ it most definitely is NOT!!!Something very odd must be happening to get this site such good reviews. It is like parking next to the M25, traffic noise 24/7 that is impossible to ignore. The facilities are clean, although old and basic. There is clearly an expansion of units for people to live in, and many - rather tatty - seasonal caravans and large motorhomes all over the park. I can’t understand what would bring people back here, there is much better sites out there, and at a more reasonable price to. I would advise to avoid this site if you can. Sorry, definitely not one for us!
Scott: Great place for a stop over, think it's a bit dear per night out of season for what's there. But very quiet and friendly peopleService: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More

Fen Farm Caravan Park: what do users think?
Paul Devall (InvictaMoto): Superb campsite with short walk to the beach. This is a quiet site. Facilities plentiful and very clean. There is a shop at the next door site for essentials but it is a little pricey.Site is also dog friendly and there is a dog walk and a field to let them have a run.Would we stay again? Yes.Restrooms: Superb.Dog-friendliness: Has a dog walk and field to let them run about.

Gavin Hughes: First van night of the year and had a wonderful stay at Fen Farm, great facilities & warden went beyond the call of duty to get the van out the mud in the morning 👏🏻👏🏻Service: 5/5|Location: 4/5Hotel highlights Great view, Quiet, Kid-friendly, Great value …More
Jasmine m.c: Lovely site, friendly , clean. Has its own beach & it’s own giant dog field, & dog shower. Peaceful site me and my dog loved it. Hope to return again!
B Mem: We had a nice lodge with a hot tubThe rooms were clean & warm fitted with all that you require for a short breakThe pool is closed over winter months there is but easy access to the beach & the local country parkRooms: Clean well equippedPlayground: Small play area on sit or walk to the one in the country park next door which also has a small café
Leigh Stephenson: Great place. Went with the Hymer Owners Group (HOG's) right next to the beach and the weather was spot on for us. Toilets and facilities were spotless. Would recommend.
Phil Taylor: Wonderful spacious and quiet site. Toilets and showers great. Walk east along the shore to the country park. Seafood by Dawn is worth the fifteen minute walk.
JAMES GREASLEY: Nice and quiet near the sea
Jojo: From the minute we arrived I liked the look of Fen Farm. Very nice welcome and shown to our pitch. Very friendly staff through out our staff. Shower block was very clean warm !! Even had radio 2 playing bonus 👍. The walk to the beach was lovely with lights going down the path way. Lovely flower beds and mowed lawn. The dogs loved the beach. A very short walk lead us to mersea church which we went in and walk around. The off to seafood by Dawn. This was lovely seafood. Being very new to seafood I tried the King prawns with garlic 😋 very nice my boyfriend had the perfect platter of seafood.
PVW: Superb site, awesome wardens and probably the best Dog walk ever. Great walks, pubs nearby and loads to see and do.Well worth the stay.
Helen Dunning: Friendly & warm welcome from Warden on siteGood amenities especially the warm clean toilet/shower blockDog-friendliness: Good grounds for walking the dog ... but have a good torch for after dark outings
Gordon Fancey: Seasonal pitch holder on the cleanest best run site I have stayed on. Highly recommended.Playground: Safe and secureRestrooms: Award winningDog-friendliness: Large off lead dog walking fields
Alan Hill: A very clean and well run site, close to the beach and a great local pub very close by, the shower block is kept very clean and you can even wash and dry your clothes. Definitely worth a visit.
Dawn O: Nice location near estuary beach. Helpful on site warden shows you to your pitch, pitches large.Level site, well maintained toilets and showers- could do with wash basin in a cubicle for those who may wish to wash in private instead of shower. Showers push button type, only give water for very short period so needed to lean on button to rinse.Booked for 3 nights but only stayed 2 due to level of noise from various inconsiderate people: first night 2 caravans partying loudly until after 12.30, second day and into the night loud music with heavy base from 2 different units. Site rules state no noise after 11pm but this is obviously ignored by some. Also lots of yapping dogs. Have seen other reviews mentioning noise being an issue. If everyone is considerate, this shouldn't be a problem!Warning- be prepared for lots of mosquitoes if visiting late summer.
Sue Ryall: So relaxing, lovely beach walks.
Steve Carey (Stevio): Friendly quiet place to bring the family, lovely place been coming for many years perfect place for young families, does get noisy at peak season which is acceptable for a family based site, staff are relatively friendly and very helpful, only complaint is the owner seemed to be having a bad day and shouted at my wife who was struggling with recycling rubbish in her mobility scooter and preceded to scream at her that it was closed and not to jump over the fence 🤣🤷‍♂️

Rushbanks Campsite: what do users think?
Kevin Grahame: Wonderful weekend with 13 friends camping in the large field. Fire pits are great and nice walks to the church and local pubs. Staff friendly and efficient at enforcing 11pm fire and music curfew. Toilets and showers clean. We'll return soon.
Stuart Bird: Such a great place nice and clean friendly atmosphere and super staff
lucy Walker: Lovely campsite with direct river access. Great for paddle boarding /kayaking. You can hire an outdoor fire and buy wood. Decent toilets. Showers are OK but could be a bit more powerful. Lovely spot and good pubs not too far away
Sabrina Sandhu: A beautifully well run campsite for families or large groups.Toilets were clean. We hired a canoe for the day and went to the pub for a drink, it took 1.5hr one way. The canoes are very heavy and they need to be carried around 2 wiers. Despite this, we had an excellent day. There is an ice cream van that arrives around 6.30 - kids loved it.There’s a small play area.Thank you for your hard work at keeping your site fun. We had a brilliant time.
K S: Great campsite, perfect for families and groups especially if you like to paddle board as very close to the river. The toilets and showers are clean and the water is nice and hot. It can sometimes get a little noise if lots of families, especially if you pitch along the river bank but strict curfew at 11pm (campfires out and no music allowed) this makes sure everyone has a good night's sleep, would definitely come back
Lexie Newlands: Brilliant campsite with hot showers & lovely staff
Paul Dulieu: This was our second visit to Rushbanks and it didn't disappoint. It is a beautiful setting, the staff are wonderful and it has everything you need for a relaxed camping trip away from the hussle-bussel of everyday life. Whilst this is "off grid" camping (no electric hook ups, no wifi), it has all that you need, with plenty of toilets which are kept really clean, a washing up station with hot water, and compact but hot, clean and free showers. The canoe hire for a trip to the Anchor pub was truly idyllic and splashing about and swimming in the river is an experience every child and adult should have. The fact that we could have a campfire was really special and the "fires out and noise down by 11pm rule" was enforced with efficiency and friendliness. This is probably our favourite campsite, and we are seasoned campers. The fact that it is only an hour from home means we should, and will, use it more often. Thank you James and team for a splendid weekend. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Si Overs: Fantastic campsite right on the river Stour in a beautiful part of the country. Very well run by the owners.
Heidi Crosby: Very nice
Andrea Brady: Loved it here! Clean, well organised, with beautiful pitches along the river bank. Paddle boards and canoes for rent for a magical paddle along the river to local pubs with excellent food and drink - or just go for a swim from the docks. Coffee van with fresh pastries, swing set, and wonderful views.
Gary Brown: A stunning well equipped campsite , me and my 2 kids thoroughly enjoyed our stay , loved wild swimming and paddle boarding in the beautiful river , staff and other campers was very friendly, can't wait to book again, highly recommended 🙏😁
Gavin MacKenzie: Not quite the 'freedom and escape' the website promises because it's just so busy and noisy with families and Bluetooth speakers, much more festival-style free-for-all. There's no guidance on where to camp so we ended up with 2 large groups backing onto us and pretty much blocking us in. Otherwise, river is lovely for swimming and boating and the facilities are clean and simple. Just don't expect tranquility!
Kikod 2005: There is a 11 o'clock bedtime where they come around and make sure that the fire is out. If it is not out they watch you put it out. It is a joke that there is a bedtime at 11 o'clock when you are camping. This is a joke and something you should know if you are planning on staying.
Gabriela Filipova: I spent there 1 night with my kids. Great place!
Kristina Mikolaityte: Enjoyed camping a lot! Will come back again! Clean and tidy premises, hot shower, well look after campus site😍We got spot next to the river,it was lovely🤩
Ben Morhall: Decent off-grid campsite (no electric and limited mobile signal) with the added value of easy river reach and great coffee van visits from Queen Bee.Facilities are adequate and usually clean. The kids playground is just a set of swings but this isn't why we come here. It's the river and freedom to wander the surroundings that appeals. If you get good weather it's 5+ stars.

The Pretty Thing: what do users think?
Janet France: Lovely camp site friendly owner shame about the rain so couldn't park on grass but alternative sorted out so on the pathway would come again
J: Me and my partner have returned home after our 1 night stay at The Pretty Thing and I cannot say a bad word about the place. The site was lovely and clean and the toilets were cleaned to a high standard. Lovely place to stay and very peaceful. Phil was an absolute gentleman taking the time to introduce himself to us and have a little chat, he couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be returning to try out the glamping they have. Thank you Phil!
john kerr: Great site all round plenty of room we are staying here in our caravan toilets and showers very clean people very nice really is a little gem of a site.
Richard Smith: What a gem of a campsite. A small family friendly campsite with spotlessly clean facilities. A small play area for the kids and a little bar area with indoor and outdoor seating serving refreshments. Less than 10 minutes from Clacton situated in a quiet location. We will look forward to returning again in 2023
Alan Smith: Good little site. Just had a new park installed for the Children, not only can you glamp but caravan pitches are available as well. Host is easy to talk to and customer service is at the operations heart.Playground: New park installed for the children, my children had no complaints
Paul Howroyd: On arrival we were impressed by how tidy the site was and staff were very friendly. The pitches are fairly close together, so it felt a little crowded. The communal seating area we liked, that's a nice touch. The toilets and showers were clean, although the lighting sensors all needed adjusting, light would go off after around 10 seconds which was most annoying, also a shower curtain would have been nice so you could shower without getting your clothes/shoes soaked. The lock was also broken on one of the two cubicles so effectively there was only one shower for about 100 people. The washing up station had no hot tap, hard to wash greasy pans in cold water.Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I doubt we'll return.
Wendy Benson: Wonderful campsite and although outside Clacton it’s still close enough to the beaches and pier. A friendly happy campsite which we definitely be visiting again soon
Carrie-ann George: I had difficulty booking online so I called and Phil very quickly helped me get booked in, was a last minute trip and we as a family thoroughly enjoyed. Very clean and maintained site, toilets and showers very clean and will be back soon for sure.
Gazza D: Been here a few times now and really enjoy it here! Play area has been updated, some new toilets and showers. Everything is clean and the people are great. Looking forward to next years visits! Sunday Was some live music too 👌
kbars87: We loved everything about our stay at the Pretty Thing. Expectations were absolutely exceeded in every way.
Kelly Collins: We really enjoyed our stay here. Such a lovely atmosphere on site and facilities were great. Will definately be back
Kim Dow: Lovely site very charming, toilets and showers kept very clean welcoming very calm peaceful site and very friendly owners, recommended.Kim & Steve
Brian Crouch: Been Here a few times good pitches new toilets showers excellent Phil is very helpful
Leon van Asten: Everything really really nice. Everything new. The toilets are really great. Can only recommend. Just drive there. You will be amazed 😲.
Tabitha Gulliver Lawrence: Had a lovely stay from Friday to Sunday morning. Beautiful and tidy campsite with clean showers/ toilet facilities. The owner is very kind and hospitable. We look forward to visiting again in the future😊
Katie Brimfield: By far, the best place we have ever stayed. If I could give 10 stars it still wouldn’t be enough. I took my daughter for some quality time on her birthday and the hosts made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much. They were just the nicest people ever. The site is really cute and the cleanest place I have ever stayed.Toilet and shower facilities were amazing, modern and super clean.Only a few minutes drive from the beach and some lovely places to walk or bike ride.We are already looking at booking again in a few weeks. The Glamping pods are beautiful as are the bell tents. We even had some shampoos and smellies on the bed for us as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolates etcThank you for making our stay comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.
Consuelo Novas-Hughes: Me and my wife came to Clacton-on sea for our anniversary and this place just made it perfect!! Lovely people that own it. Friendly, amazing toilets/shower facilities. All the campers on site are so friendly too. Perfect!! Thank you...
Christiane Heyde: Lovely campsite, very well looked after and friendly staff running it.
Tracey Baker: lovely place first time out with my friend nrw touring caravan with friends to this campsite very relaxing and the dogs came too

Erika Rekke: Great place for camping. We have really enjoyed our stay. There is a playground for kids, little shop, cafe, showers are free. There is a little kitchen for washing the staff. 4 stars only because there could be one more toilet somewhere a bit closer to the pitches. The place is not overcrowded and good price for staying.
Danny Smith: The site itself is lovely and the management and booking possess was great and for a realy good price at short notice however the "lake resort" dosnt actually have any access to the lake no swimming or board/boat activitys unless you are part of the (separate) water ski club I found this a bit deciving. Toilets and showered altho clean are small and far from the tent pitches. The site has a small play area but not much else to do. The lake side pitches slope towards the lake. Very pretty and well kept site mainly let down by not having lake access.
Christine Monk: Good coffee overlooking the lake with nice staff working there.Service: 5/5|Location: 5/5 …More
Andy Weight: Beautiful place, great little cafe, super water sports and camping
Andrew Frost: Nice clean campsite, limited activities. No real access to the lake as it’s by appointment only for swimming. No paddlinG, kayaks or SUP’s etc.

Finchingfield Camping: what do users think?
Jade Gower: My husband, 3-year-old daughter and I spent the weekend glamping at Finchingfield Camping (Lavender Belle Tent)! We had a fantastic stay. The tent was gorgeous and filled with everything you need (just bring your food and you're good to go). As a bonus, Julia let my daughter feed her ducks and chickens (and search for some eggs) which she absolutely loved!!! Would definitely recommend :-)
lily jones: My partner and I stayed for a long weekend and it was absolutely lovely. The showers were lovely and having your own toilet really makes a difference. Details like the shed are also great. The area is lovely with a cute village near by and many other sites and not far away. The owners of finchingfield camping were also very accommodating and helpfulOverall would deffo recommend!
Rachel Babic: This is the perfect campsite! The plots are massive and spaced out, the little private compost loos are so so clean, the whole place is spotless, the owners are friendly and welcoming and relaxed, there’s ample fridge space. The site is beautiful. The fire pits with grills a welcome touch. The kids loved riding the wheelbarrows down from the cars with all our stuff. It’s just so wonderful. Plan on returning every year! Thank you
Katherine Le Gros: Beautiful natural campsite set in a gorgeous smelling lavender field. Big tent pitches with a compositing toilet (doesn't smell!!!), firepit and picnic bench. The small touches make all the difference and the kids get to help feed the chickens. Will definitely be coming back for another stay. Thank you!
Clare Kane: I was lucky enough to win a night's stay in the Lavender bell tent. It was beautifully furnished with everything a camper could wish for and more, including a fire pit; bar area with camping stove; picnic table; deck chairs; and saucepans, plates and crockery. We found the composting toilet on the pitch very convenient and not at all smelly, even though it was very warm when we stayed. The showers were clean and warm. The only thing if note is to bear in mind there are no hand washing facilities, other than in the shower, but there is hand sanitizer everywhere and you are welcome to fill your own water containers for this purpose. They also have a sweet little cafe on site which is open Thursday to Saturday. We loved it there and wished we were staying longer to star gaze some more. We'll be back - and also to sample the pizzas at the Finchingfield Lion again.Dog-friendliness: Dogs are not allowed currently.
Bianca Garcia: Beautiful fields stretching endlessly away into the distance. Picked lots of lavender, relaxed on the straw sofas thickly covered with blankets and cushions whilst we ate our cakes.Very friendly, helpful staff.Absolute bargain at £6 each to pick our fill.Toilets are clean.Delightful morning.
Katherine N. Garmonsway: Really lovely; I suspect more beautiful a month ago when the lavender would have been at its best. The smell was amazing, and we all felt ridiculously sleepy on the way home. Cute cafe but would have liked more vegan bits as there was only a chocolate muffin and no soya milk, the picnic boxes seemed good value at £12 (we didn’t have one but they can do vegan to order). Staff really friendly and kind.
Mel Pretorius: We stayed at Finchingfield Camping for 2 nights in our own tent. Pitches are generously sized with own compost loo (great for trips in the night), picnic bench and fire pit. It is a small enough campsite not to worry about getting lost but large enough to while away a few hours without being bored. Set in the surroundings of a lavender field, this is the prettiest campsite we've stayed at.
Catherine Gough: This was our second stay at Finchingfield and I didn’t think it could get any better, but it did! Such a wonderful place to build memories. We stayed in the Honeysuckle belle tent which was well equipped and comfortable. The interior is superbly dressed with vintage cups and saucers, a dress rail, cabinets and plants. Solar fairy lights light it up at night creating the sense of something magical. Battery candles give added light too.A new addition was the tiki hut outside. It also had a gas hob to make cooking or boiling the kettle quicker and easier. We loved the fire pit too. Roasted marshmallows, s’mores and jacket potatoes were cooked to perfection. This year, there was a new cafe with a fantastic range of cakes, drinks and locally sourced ice cream.I can highly recommend this the berry and white chocolate! We were served by a lovely, cheerful young girl who clearly loves what she’s doing and treats the customers and the food with care and respect.Julia, who runs the camping and the lavender field, is just amazing. Nothing is too much trouble and she is so patient with the children. They were invited to help feed the chickens and ducks, which they absolutely loved. My 5 year old granddaughter spotted freshly laid duck egg and Julia picked it up and gave it to her. She carried it back to the tent like a precious jewel and enjoyed it as scrambled eggs in the morning.Finchingfield camping and lavender fields is a real labour of love for Julia and her husband (and her mother in law was also there helping) and this genuine sense of love and family makes you feel as though you belong too. The warmth and hospitality from this incredible family, as well as the fantastic facilities, makes this place a must.
Vanisha Thanawala: Had a lovely morning and tea… highly recommended!
Denise Morley: Had a wonderful afternoon picking lavender, in the most beautiful tranquil location. With a delicious afternoon tea and hospitality second to none, from Julia and her husband.Thank you for making some very special memories 😊💕
B. Gerry: Brilliant, had a very tasty, filling afternoon tea and picked a bucketful of lavender.
matthew prigmore: Quite honestly the best camp site, I’ve ever stayed at. Plenty of space, well thought out and relaxing. Lots of space for children to run free without the worry of vehicles.
ben woodcock: Lovely place run by Lovely people. Would stay again !
Lee Pope: We had a fantastic time. The campsite is beautiful, so much thought has gone into it.They must work really hard to keep it so well maintained & you feel like nothing is too much trouble. There are great sized pitches so it feels like you are camping alone.I cannot recommend it highly enough. We have already booked our next stay.
Hayley Clements: Absolutely beautiful weekend spent camping! The tents are well decorated, the interior is cosy with lots of finishing touches. Each pitch has its own compost loo, outside kitchen with little stove, a fire pit and outdoor seating. The tents are situated in a meadow full of daisies. Julia was super helpful and made us feel very welcome. The ducks and chickens were great too! It was idyllic! Thank you so much for having us! Xx
Nehal Abdelmoniem: Where to start?Absolutely beautiful stay at Finchingfield camping. Julia was the most attentive host and her impeccable taste, attention to detail and love was evident everywhere you looked.Things like - thoughtful to park just outside the camps so that it didn't feel like a trailer park - but had wheelbarrows so you can wheel your things to your tent.- Lovely little signs that were uniform (but obviously made by hand) to guide on how to be eco responsible- The tents surrounding beautiful lavender field - so it is very fragrant surrounded my daisy meadow- Very large pitches and composting loo- Beautiful rooms- Lots of activities for little ones (including duck and chicken feeding if you wake up at 7:30! - Just avoid the grumpy goose :))- Eggs and firewood waiting for you- Hot clean showersCannot wait to come back - will bring friends.
Kate Fleming: Returning customer… Such a wonderful, restful place. Time to relax, recharge and also explore a beautiful area of the country. I visited with my 5 (almost 6) year old and there was so much to do within 30 minute drive. Despite the unpredictable weather… we loved it. There is something so soothing about seeing the growing lavender and happy daisys from every angle. Thank you for another lovely stay. We will be back. The Belle Tents we’re stunning, spotlessly clean & so spacious and I’ve got to say… I haven’t slept like that in a long time! We don’t normal “glamp” but I can totally see the attraction. Its quite a treat to not have to do all the laborious parts of the set up and clear down!
Graham G Man: Great campsite.Compost loo on each pitch, which is a plus.If you want a small playground for kids, visit the one in Finchingfield Village at the end of Stephen Marshall Avenue.Visit Boydells Farm. Absolute must.Go to Knead Food for lunch/cake. Great food
Studio Ninety Six: We had a fabulous time at Finchingfield Camping. Spotlessly clean site and so peaceful. Our boys loved spending time watching the chickens and ducks. Julia and family are wonderful hosts and made us feel at home. They clearly work hard to keep their site eco friendly and so clean and welcoming. We will definitely be visiting again soon
