Allen & Son Butchers: what do users think?
Vương Chu: Meat with great quality. Very friendly butchers. It is located at the town center, so very convenient.
Joanna Carr: I bought 500gm of venison this week. First time I've used this butcher. Already cut into chunks. It was frozen, so not expecting greatness. Wrong! I made my usual casserole and the meat was lovely. I will definitely be going back for more.
Howard Lopez: Great quality of meat.
John H: Friendly staff and helpful. Covid friendly and good value. Will be back.
Bethany Longman: Amazing customer service and beautiful quality meat. Always very fresh and tastes amazing. Best butcher in Colchester.
Darren Mageehan: Always great service and excellent produce. Highly recommend
Elizabeth James: Love the meet from here so tasty. Staff are so friendly. Helpful.
Toby Lefley: Quality Meat and great prices! All the staff are very helpful. So much choice of meats and always a great service! Defo Best butchers in Colchester by far.
K S: Absolutely first Class service!!! Could not recommend any higher! I had never bought from Allen and Sons before Covid-19 struck, however since the lockdown we have been purchasing the varying meat packs and the taste and quality of meat is fantastic. Today we were delivered another meat pack and they accidentally delivered the wrong pack. We advised them and within hours (late hours of the evening) returned to our house with the correct meat pack and collected the wrong pack! Absolutely outstanding service and could not recommend more!!! Well done guys
graham stone: In a time of need....an excellent butcher
Keith Page: Went there once. Old guy was very rude. Shame Colchester hasn’t got a decent butchers.
Claudia Samano Robles: Very bad attitude towards migrants, specifically the owner of the butcher. I started buying there six months ago and it was good but latelly he has been giving me low quality meet and bad attitude. The rest of the staff have been always friendly.
Tran Lyly: The white hair old man is racist to Asian. His attitude was really bad and made me feel upset. Although I bought him ~30 pound meat and said thank to him but he didn't smile or say thank to me. He turned his back on me right after giving me the meat with really bad attitude. Cause I needed to buy some meat for my friend and found nowhere else near me to buy so I had no choice except from buying from him.never come back!!!
Terry Beech: Pasties are fab!
Elizabeth Trustrum: A fabulous Butcher in Colchester! Helpful, friendly and great produce. You must support these independent businesses if you can, Colchester has lost 2 other Butchers since we moved here 5 years ago.
medic7698: Always helpful and friendly. The pies are brilliant.
Donnal Mixon: Knowledgeable butchering is a(n almost) lost art but at Allen and Son it's alive and well. I always bought my Norfolk Bronze turkeys for Christmas here and I purchased the most memorable pork I have ever had (it's always local). I left Colchester for California in 2014 and I still miss this shop. What I wouldn't give to have such artisanal butchering here. The Texan
Gilly P: Certainly the best and one of the oldest established butchers in town. They supply meat to the restaurants too. Brilliant quality and very good discounts for bulk. Exceptional service - way above any others.

Direct Meats Knights Farm Ltd: what do users think?
Dr F. M. Jiggins: I was cycling with my eight year old son to school their driver came close behind us and continually hooted before shouting at us through his window for cycling two abreast (as required by the highway code). A most unpleasant encounter with this business.
Tony Henderson: Ok but not much room for a artic
A Pxrk: Awful.
Ricky Gordan: The Most Disgusting and Awful place that you can work in Essex. Dirty, no hygiene, even they don't have normal toilets. Already the special government's agencies have been informed about the situation there.
JG “G”: Only a handful of people are actually fully trained & skilled at their job, too many with the 'manager' tag on their job role but clearly no idea! Not the best company i've worked for, poor organisation, plenty of liars & backstabbers! The only good is the wage if you're a driver & is paid on time! The company may supply to large chains of restaurants ect but i've seen better produce from the likes of Aldi & Lidl ect!Avoid working here!!!
Leon Russell: I never did get the missing items :p only a few quid but it’s the principle of the matter. Please be weary if ordering from people like this
Victor Williams: Excellent customer service. Quick response at collection point. Very helpful all round. Gt meat.
Filippo Angelini: I made 3 orders from direct meat, and I have been really happy with the quality of the meat. However I bulk purchase from them and I expect the meat to be delivered fully frozen. On the last 2 deliveries the meat arrived completely defrosted. On delivery 2 the support team ensured refund for any product I was not satisfied with, however this didn't happen when the third delivery arrived fully defrosted.
N Chandler: Great company to work for - proud to work with so many great farms
Henry Rollings: Great company, easy to order, great quality meat 10/10 would recommend
kierran welch: Great quality, with a large range of products. Would highly recommend!
Julie Greenland: Wow, if you haven't tried their pork you are missing out. Really friendly and helpful sales team and order received in fab condition, will definitely use again and again
Suzanne Jones: Fantastic service and good quality meats. Will definately be using again for sure. Thank you
Roxanne Hughes: Great experience with Direct Meats Knights Farm. Meat was amazing and succulent. The only bad thing is we didnt order enough.Delivery definitely surpassed my expectations and all the staff I across were pleasant and would definitely deal with them again.Overall super happy with everything
Clare Hampson: Excellent customer service, prompt and well packaged delivery. The best quality meat I can remember buying. Would definitely recommend and will be ordering all my meat From here in the future (saves carrying it back from the butchers too!)
Archie Blackwell: Great company! producing some of the best quality products available. Would highly recommend to any restaurant looking for a high quality meat supplier.
Henry Alabone: Turned up 1 working day after order. High quality meat with good marbling. Put the pork tomahawk on the bbq today and took one taste and thought ahhhhhhhhh. High quality meat from a high quality family business would 100% recommend. Ahhhhhh.
Tristan Richardson: Both the food received and delivery exceeded expectations. I placed my order over the weekend and I arrived on Wednesday despite the bank holiday and was left as requested in a shaded place outside as I wasn’t home. The wagyu steaks were perfect and a far greater price than would be found at any restaurant. Would highly recommend.
Gideon Scholz: Really poor quality of all their products. Tomatoes arrived mouldy and olive oil was some cheap substitution. Lamb was chewy as hell. Ended up in the bin. Emailed and never got a reply. Go with Osolocal2u. Amazing quality.
steph carbonneil: Beyond poor service. Broken eggs, missing vegetables box, being delivered something I didn't ordered. i had to chase twice, left an email and still trying ti be delivered or refunded. Still not refunded and no follow up.

Wivenhoe Butchers & ROAST CAFFÈ: what do users think?
John Humpston: love to see it open again
Glenda: Awesome place , going again, today yay
Oscar Finch: Great environment, coffee, and food too.
Tracey Bridgman: Omg so welcoming and the best seasonal sausage roll ive ever tasted and the coffee is good to
Bridget Beattie: Best butchers I have ever been to. Will definitely be returning.
Beverley Wong: Finally made it down to this cute little place earlier this week and it did not disappoint. We had such a lovely, warm welcome and service from Lauren, enjoyed great coffee and of course, the divine homemade pasteles de nata. Thank you Roast Caffe, we'll be back soon!
Ellen Randall: The food and coffee is top restaurant quality, but much more relaxed! They're so good with our kids - they beg us to go, which we always very happily oblige.
Amanda Cavanagh: This place is a gem! You can have truly fantastic coffee and house-made pastries at the lively outdoor seating area or comfortable coffee shop seating upstairs. On top of that, there is a rotating menu of delicious lunch items, and a fresh produce and local meat counter available from the adjoining butcher shop. You can even pick up other locally made items including loaves of sourdough. The owner brings her ex-chef sensibilities and attention to detail to every aspect of this business, and it shows in the excellent range of offerings. Do yourself a favour and drop in for a pastel de nata!
Lucy Brokenshire: 5*Top quality coffee, knowledgeable, fantastic produce to buy, their home smoked corned beef brisket off the menu reminds me of back home
Ivor Bailes: Wonderfully presented meat counter with the most knowledgable butcher, the passion for the craft and provenance really shines through.Exceptional meat that I watched being expertly prepared for me, with a side of pro cooking tips to boot! The coffee served here is perfection and paired with handmade pastel de nata, particularly the ones with the added raspberry makes for a top notch breakfast to round off your shopping trip….. we even came back for late lunch after reading the menu… Sherry braised pigs cheeks with roasted granny smith apples, who could resist?! Nothing like this place in the area, they’re on to a winner here!
Christopher Taylor: Incredible! Amazing knowledge of all aspects of meat and superb cooking tips too!The quality is the highest order!!A business showing the way forward
Ben Sharpe: Very friendly shop with great coffee and pastries. This is a brilliant addition to Wivenhoe and I will be back again soon!
Philip Mylrea: Totally brilliant idea a really great butcher and vegetable shop with local produce and a cafe with excellent coffee and other drinks plus food. The Wivenhoe Butchers is in route 52 for cyclists and I can recommend all cyclists passing by this place a give it a shot! Possible Routes from Cafe you can ride to Harwich, Ride to pretty Dedham or cross on person bike ferry from Brightlingsea to Mersey Island. Wivenhoe itself is a pretty village/town sometimes likened to a south Cornwall village.
Dora Nagy: Lovely little coffee shop, perfect for a quick coffee and pastry. Awesome sausage roll :)
Rubicon Villas: Just bought 2 chicken kebabs which I took home to stir fry. It was awesome. Unlike the rubbish marinades you get in most places the guys had produced a master stroke somehow and we had an amazing meal. The butchers is stocked with lots of great meat some of which you can buy in the cafe like sausage rolls made from local meets. This place is different with the owner making the chairs and tables and this makes the difference. The local florist even provides beautiful flowers for the tables. From the places I come from where everything is the same we love the differences.
paul baker: Top quality, locally sourced meat and knowledgeable (ex-chef) butchers with lots of great advice. Highly recommended.
Karen Grace: I love everything about this place. It’s great having access to fresh and ethical meat, and the knowledge of the staff is really great and encourages you to try new things. The creative meal deal ideas and diy date night kits make me want to spend all my money on meat! I pick up ox heart and lamb heart from there and have never been pressured into spending more, which I appreciate, but after eyeing the gorgeous t-bones last week during my pick up, I’ve already placed an order for two for Valentines Day! The staff are really great to chat too and often have great ideas for recipes and other things to try - can’t recommend more!
Helen Eustace: Great to have a butchers in Wivenhoe again. Lots of interesting choices. Staff friendly and helpful.
James 95: Great quality
Simon Bailey: Came for the sausages, stayed for the T-Bone steak...

Christine FLETCHER: Brilliant butchers. Excellent quality meat. Orders prepared to your requirements. Staff are friendly and helpful with Claire adding the extra bit of humour 😃 The shop is not local to me but is well worth the journey. Would highly recommend.
thomas graham: Very clean and tidey butcher's the lady who served us was a very pleasant person. We have been there a few times now great display.
paul hayhoe: Called in again this afternoon for supplies, had a great chat with Clare and Tracy (as always). Recommend a visit as meat is well presented and value for money (chicken breasts are ginormous and would hate to see the size of those hens if in an angry mood), much better quality than any supermarket and fresher (you only get that a butchers). They also sell eggs/preserves and even beer.Forgot to mention the steak burgers that are particularly nice (can only manage one and they don’t shrink), so great value produce and excellent staff.
John Macrae: Excellent, friendly staff. Good selection and quality of meats. Never disappoints
steven burnett: You need to update your opening times I just been over for 8am to be told that you don’t open till 8.30 … I’d come all the way from clacton absolute joke 🤯
Paul Hallett: Excellent service and quality of meat superb.
Mark Cosgrove: Great value for money local butchers. The Sausages, Burgers and flavoured chicken are all amazing. All the staff are helpful, so if you are not sure what to get for a special meal they will be able to help (Claire has a great knowledge of everything in the shop)
Adam Worsley: Came here again for the first time in a while, all the meat here is so good ESPECIALLY their chicken wings, was served by Claire again who is always top notch and very friendly if you want great fresh meat go to Swiss farm.
Pat Green: This butchers was advertised in our local paper been going now for about 2 years wouldn't buy our meat from anywhere else really good quality and tasty staff are really helpful and very friendly thank you to Claire and all staff.xx
Corina: Clare and Tracy are so knowledgeable and friendly , it is always a pleasure to visit 🐸……….and the meat is of excellent quality.
Quy Anderson: Called earlier today to make some enquiries and was very disappointed. I had expected better based on the reviews. The young girl who answered the phone was polite and friendly but completely out of her depth. I asked for specific cuts and weights - and it was incredibly frustrating being asked to hold every single time so she can check what exactly what I was referring to (beef bones, oxtail, beef shin, beef tendon and picanha) - and for the items that were in stock - I was told they have “some” in stock but wasn’t specific as to whether she could fulfil my order.
Stephanie Knight: Place is always clean, meat always looks lovely and it is, we wouldn't buy our meat from anywhere else plus the staff are always friendly
Denise Stevens: Great service and great prices, it was my 1st visit and will definitely be going back
Ashley Kirk: Great butchers, great service and great value
charlton shimwell: Great local butcher, not just standard meat and standard cuts, lovely selection and get some nice different stuff in sometimes. All they need is a wine shop on site selling local and global fine wines and it would be perfection.
Jon: Great meat, fantastic prices and friendly staff.
Fiona Coombs: Best ever

Becky's Butchers: what do users think?
Lee Williams: Fantastic local butchers, wide range of produce including fresh/frozen local meat products and eggs/bread.Outstanding quality, and very personal service, excellent asset to the local community, products also available at Skylark Farm Store in Ardleigh.
Mark Gorvin: Had a great experience visiting Becky's Butchers , meat was great and very friendly, even showing us where the meat in comes from
Tanya Allen: Lovely range of meat and products, all sourced locally. There is also a range for Coeliac/gluten free.
Dan Wise: Was staying nearby over the weekend and wanted some decent meat to cook over the fire. Picked up a 35 day dry aged piece of ribeye and some sausages and both were fantastic. Clearly care about the produce, highly recommended.
Jeff Kemp: Well I not sure I want to share this hidden gem, Becky and her mum are so friendly and helpful. The produce is amazing quality and at a great price, meat mainly from the farm fresh eggs. If your into quality meat try this place.
James Hunt: Great ethos, great people amazing homemade products. Meat as it should taste 👌
Alan Johnson: Always quality produce at Becky's
Claire and Doug Cooper: Wonderful meat, sausages and the most excellent pies. Highly recommended.
Catherine Day: We recently bought a 1/4 pig; Cannot recommend highly enough. Beautifully bagged up to our requirements, cleanly cut, very reasonably priced but wow; the flavour! Like you remember from your childhood, best ever. Crackling to die for. The smell while it was cooking was wonderful; clean and fresh, absolutely bursting with flavour. We also bought a pork pie - will never buy a 'shop' one again.
Richard Gray: We have a regular weekly selection of Becky’s Butchers meat ordered at and collected from Wivenhoe Deli. It is if uniformly high standard: beautiful and superbly tasty cuts of meat skilfully butchered and prepared.First class.
John Sait: What lovely hard working young lady always very pleasant ,always very pleased to see you and has a product second to none good luck to her now and in the future .
Richard Willcocks: Unsurpassed in terms of quality and service, the meat sold here is superb. You get to see the animals on the land and you're definitely not buying miscellaneous meat from a supermarket that has travelled around before and after being slaughtered. Definitely worth buying all meat from here.
Bradley Moy: Great local butchers with great tasting pies sausages and meats.
Karey Lamb: We have purchased all different sorts of meats from Becky’s butchers and I have to say every piece has been amazing well done to this young lady
Uncle Samzon: Quite simply the tastiest pork and beef I've ever, ever had (and I'm ancient!). Great service, great value - unbeatable! :-)
Steve Morrisby: Best pork in town by far and Becky will always go that extra mile!
Gemma Gale: Fantastic service all round. Becky is very helpful and the meat is delicious. Best steak I have tasted in years. 5* Highly recommended.

Just finished the gammon in sandwiches which my husband raved about. We will be back as we do every year.

Waitrose & Partners Colchester: what do users think?
Sue Baynes: Clean, well stocked and organised store. Love the cafe
Lucy Lawson: Lots of variety, good quality. Price matches on certain staple items to compete with other places. Don't use it all the time but definitely a great place to go for something special.
Brian Hawkins: I really like this store. They stock a number of harder to find items, carry a good selection, the staff is friendly and the store tidy and well organised.
katie palmer: Yesterday I lost my car key in your store. The staff went above and beyond helping me to find it, including a member of staff who was on her way home. When they found the key, they also gave me some flowers to cheer my day up.Amazing service, I would like to say a big thank you to you all.Katie 😍🙏😍
Peter Pearson: Always quality, no rubbish.
rbb: Valentine's four-course meal deal (for two) for £20. Express check out lady friendly 👍
Michelle Clayden: Clean, uncrowded, friendly staff.
Bisma Firdous: Over priced and not always properly stocked , parking is good
Kevin: Love it try the cheese deli 😋
Ry J8: Shopping here and paying these ridiculous prices is not only wasteful but quite selfish, alot of branded items are far more expensive than in other supermarkets nearby, the item itself is identical so there is nothing to be gained aside from some sort of petty sense of prestige from obtaining your food here. If you are willing to do this why not buy these items at another supermarket for less and give the excess money you don't want to charity. It is insulting to people who work hard and spend their money wisely trying to provide a good diet for their family's. If anything most people think less of you for wasting your time and effort earning money to throw it away, especially at a time where the cost of living is extremely high.
martin ainger: Standard Waitrose in a purpose built store with a large car park. On the outskirts of Colchester, only one way in. If not used to it be careful at the nearby Ipswich Road roundabout, the new system has caused many crashes!..
Alisher “Lion Ali”: Used to be good and you could find many things. Now they don't stock so often and I waste my time going there. For example organic Dutchy whole milk is impossible to find. For working person it is impossible to get it after 5pm. I don't know where the store manager is looking.
Colin Sawers: Good range of products and a deli counter in store.
Guy Osborn: Good choice of products
H F: Refund policy is an absolute joke!!! Brought a Christmas decor but cant fit in my house, returned 22 days later (including Christmas closure) in resaleable condition and refused refund. Had to argue your way through.
Richard Wroot: Well stocked and happy and helpful shop works who try and help no matter what
Ann Cooke: Lovely shop. I got lots of gorgeous food for Christmas
Zoe Upton-Dulieu: A little sparse but all good. Staff are very helpful.
darron welch: Pleasant experience shopping in here. Wide Isles and everything nicely packaged and displayed in clean and bright environment. What Joy!Now the work has been finished on the roundabout Waitrose is easy to get too. It is so much easier to park here and there is an abundance of fresh produce , most of which is not available anywhere else in the locality. It is well worth a visit and with the addition of a lovely cafeteria makes a delightful morning out!
Alex Legge: Its a nice Waitrose
Malcolm Clarke: Very friendly and helpful partners, food reasonable priced, plenty of car parking spaces. and Now they doing their coffee again big bonus.

Grant: Traditional butcher in Mersea.Great butcher who is always happy to advise on joins of meat and the best ways to cook it.Excellent range of meat very well butchered and great value too. They are do a range of cooked meat products, or which I have tried the pies and coleslaws which I couldn’t recommend more.Highly recommended butcher, worth taking the detour for.
Diane Goodrich: If I could give a minus I would. We visited this shop during a day out as they invite you to “come in and browse” but the staff were extremely rude, bad mannered and unfriendly. Don’t bother wasting your precious money here find somewhere else that appreciates your custom and shows some respect.
Dave Spezzia: Great food, great prices
Katie Hargreaves: Lovely tasty steak and onion pie from you guys today.Katie and John from York
Mersea Imagery (SK Imagery): Great butchers shop in West Mersea, quality produce and excellent customer service.Regularly grab liver from here, always want to buy much more...mouth watering display of meat and pies and much more.

Steve McMaster: 2 500g rib eye steaks, one of the best steaks I have ever had. Highly recomend
John Russell: Another great shop at Millins of Tiptree. Stocked up on lamb, beef, chicken, and pork. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, quality produce, competitive pricing, and simple packaging/wrapping. Will try their delicatessen next time.
mike smear: I've been going to Millins for a few years now and love it. You can really taste the difference in their produce as opposed to supermarket bought. They often have their own twists on meat dishes, and these are great for the basis for a quick meal. The shop is modern and clean and gives a real sense of quality and that of a 'high class butcher'.The staff have always been very polite and knowledgeable, the two brothers that run it are friendly, outgoing and have a laugh with their customers. They really know their stuff, know their suppliers and can give advice on how to cook a great piece of meat.I'll keep going as long as I'm able.
Ruth Merchant: Fabulous butchers, friendly and caring staff who take time to get to know their customers, wouldn't go anywhere else.
Cara Russell: Excellent as always
John Foote: Great looking meat, pies, fish etc.
Alison Taylor: The best! As always!
Anna Raźniak: Absolutely awful and rude customer service, we will never again consider visiting the shop again, rather drive to Colchester
David White: Amazing butchers, bit pricey but worth it
Konia: Used Millins for many years. Always great service and fabulous meats. A special thank you for your exceptional customer service in this period of 'lock down' - it is much appreciated
Family Sargeant: Such a pleasure to shop at Millins, good quality food every time.
Sarah Munson: Great traditional butchers, high quality and excellent value for money
Jason Fury: Terribly expensive. I am all for supporting independent businesses but the prices are double that of a supermarket
Alice Harrington: Having moved to Spain we miss Millins dreadfully. Whenever we make a trip back to the UK, we bring back what we can. Super polite, knowledgeable and efficient staff. Please open a branch in Spain!
Andrew Bedford: The best quality and cleanest butchers in Essex - probably. An absolute must if you need meat, sausage rolls, pork pies etc and cheese locally. Eat the best at reasonable prices. Lovely friendly staff.
oliver southgate: Always fresh and good quality selection form this awesome family butchers. They catered my wedding too with a delicious hog roast and fabulous deserts. The cafe serves great sandwiches and wraps plus cakes made fresh. An absolute must if you need meat, fish and cheese locally.
Ian Pass: Excellent butchers, all staff are friendly and very helpful, a little more expensive than some other butchers, but worth it as quality and range of produce is excellent (both on meats and cheese counters).
Claire Shelley: Excellent butchers. All the staff there really know there meat and marinades! Good quality food and good sized cuts as well. Lots to offer cheese, homemade pies and scotch eggs, fish and all types of meat cuts and made up marinades to purchase which are lovely gorgeous! Staff have always gone out there way to accommodate for me and frequently make up some more marinated meat if they have run out. Would definitely recommend a visit to here and try the Chicken Kievs and the Greek style Lamb Chops.
Colin Bellew: Best butcher ive ever used, will keep returning
Geoffry Banks: Infuriating & Average! Having moved to Tiptree for work, I found myself excited at the prospect of a local sandwich shop as the butchers is quite good. I keep finding myself saying I wont go back after error after error! after explaining to the painfully slow lady on the phone my order to which a name wasn't even taken (and they wonder why orders get mixed up), somehow it is still completely wrong as I find out sitting at my desk, when I ring up to explain I am told well if you come back then we can change it which after the time it takes my lunch break is over, not to mention the inconsistency of the product i.e sometimes you get nice rashers of bacon and other times a few snippets mixed in! Also the bread is lovely although the baguettes taste like they were frozen. I will not be going back and can only hope that another sandwich shop opens as the prices are not even cheap yet the quality and basic structure is terrible. "The blind leading the blind" springs too mind.
Katie Goldsmith: This is a remarkable butchery shop. The staff KNOW their products. The meats are of the highest standard and the individual dishes which are displayed in the front are very tasty. Jamie Oliver - come and have a look
