Colchester Country Park: what do users think?

Rebecca Manship: Lovely family and dog friendly site in easy walking distance of local bar/eatery, nature reserve and all the attractions of Colchester city centre. Regular bus service directly outside the entrance if walking isn't your thing. There are three facility blocks across the site. They're a bit dated but spotlessly clean and refreshed regularly.Fantastic and spacious adventure playground. There is some road noise from A12, but being less than a mile from the city centre that's to be expected! The new lodges at the end of the country park look beautiful.Safety: Secure entrance gatesWalkability: 5 minute walk to bar/restaurant5 minute walk to open parks and nature reserve20 minute walk into Colchester city centreFood & drinks: Small shop on siteLots of bars, cafe's and restaurants within easy drive, walk, public transport distanceSeveral takeaways, deliveroo etc to the site. Leaflets in Information Cabin

Em ma: Clean amenities. Dog friendlyYou can hear the road, although it wasn't annoying. No fires allowed unfortunatelyWalkability: Cross the road and there is a large park where dogs can walk off lead, then towards Lexden there is a nature reserve which was lovely

Annette: This is a lovely site, clean toilets and showers. Friendly knowledgeable staff. The only down side is its right next to the A12. Didn't bother us as we were out all day, and the road noise didn't keep us awake. Handy for buses into Colchester.Location: 2/5 …

Ioana Iancu: Amazing site for holiday, with very friendly staff, extremely helpful, great service. We even had a disco in one of the nights and the music was more than perfect. The facilities were always clean, with good layout. There was a park for the kids, they were able to play around the tents as well, on the grass, perfectly safe.We are definitely coming back. Thank you for a wonderful experience

Fen Farm Caravan Park: what do users think?

Pauline Knowles: Very quiet well tended site. If you are looking for entertainment this is not the place for you.

Louise: Only booked one night here but the campsite was good, we had a good size space. Toilet block was clean and well maintained. The beach is around a 5 minute walk from the campsite. They have food vans on site most evenings, a burger one on the night we were there, we went over shortly after it opened and were told there was an hour and a half wait after ordering so unfortunately we didn't try it as we were quite hungry. Maybe best to order in advance online if you decide to do this. The site says WiFi available but you have to pay extra for this.

Travelling Tom: Premier Parks describe this site as "tranquil", which is a horrible error. That is not a criticism as such, more of a dismayed observation. We booked this site on the basis that it was quieter than the usual sites, but it is anything but. It has more of a festival atmosphere and pretty noisy. People shouting at dogs that don't understand English and kids running riot. The warden was excellent, one of the best I've known. Very helpful and said to ring his doorbell anytime, which is quite a commitment from him personally. He really cared about the site. There are a lot of seasonal pitches and they seem to take up the sea view area of the site and it did make it feel more like a travellers site in some respects. We saw people wheeling fridges down the path to install in their tents. None of this is bad, just don't expect the tranquillity that the premier parks describes.Oh and the food trucks are very good.

Robert hillier: Spacious campsite, good for a quiet get-awayLocation: 5/5Hotel highlights Quiet, Kid-friendly …

Faith Smith: Always loved coming to fen farm ,but when you have more than 1 dog that has to be put on leads everytime you step out your caravan ,you sort of feel like your being watched by the warden all the time so we left a 2 days early . After being told 3 times,, it was just to much . 1st time mum walked my dog of lead n didn't know as she visited for the day .2nd we was sitting having a barbecue n dogs were asleep by our feet n 3rd time was my fault I apologised .so caring for disabled partner it all got to much .glad to be home. .Walkability: Beach

stuart Hilliard: Very clean and staff are really friendly.Hotel highlights Great value …

Andrew Raison: As always, a great place to stay in our caravan 🚐 ❤️Nearby activities: Pub and town nearbyWalkability: Great walks

Graham Vale: Excellent Caravan and Camping fields, area's for pets as well as children.First class eminity area, spotlessly cleanNearby activities: Pub.BeachSafety: Warden on siteWalkability: Beach 2 minutes.Pub 5 minutes

The Pretty Thing: what do users think?

Tim Clark: Great campsite. Good facilities.Hotel highlights Kid-friendly …

Terry Panks: Just stayed here for 3 days in my caravan, with my puppy and elder dog, don't forget the wife lol, lovely site very clean and tidy. Would highly recommendFood & drinks: Nice cafe for a bacon sandwich and coffee

Simon Akerman: Wow.. what a lovely site with great owners, bacon buttys to die for ! Showers great and best of all they insist dogs on lead. We will be back for sure... thank you for a lovely 4 days.

Rachel Smith: AMAZING. Couldn't recommend highly enough. We took our kids on their first camping trip here, we went for 2 weeks - mad I know! We had drama on the way when our roof box broke and we lost some items including an air bed but they were so kind and helpful. They immediately gave us a spare one and even blew it up for us. The amenities are immaculate and so clean. I appreciate that they even have a parent/child shower which made it easier to shower the kids. I didn't ever que to use the amenities as there is plenty. The play area with stone pit was perfect for my 3 year old who loves to dig in stones. As tent users with kids, it was so beneficial that they have a communal fridge/freezer and an extension cord you can use to charge anything up. We also ate in the cafe and it was lovely. If you have any problems, they are quick to answer the phone and help. The owners are really friendly and welcoming. We will be going back again for sure.Safety: They have a gate that people always close behind themselves.Walkability: It's in a lovely rural location but only a few minutes drive into st.osyth and Clacton.Food & drinks: The cafe was lovely as was the hotdog and burger night

pete cade: Lovely little camping and caravan site

Mr Gamerplayer: This camping is one of the better camping's out there! The service is amazing and the rooms are just like little hotel rooms in a tent. There is enough place for kids and if your pets want to come along its also perfect!A special dog tent for dog owners is made and there is even a little place for him to lay down. I would highly recommend this to any dog/pet owners!A big thank you for the owners that run the business here, i had a great time visiting as a guest!Nearby activities: There are places to play with your kidsFood & drinks: There is a breakfast place to eat breakfast together

clifford schwarz: Nice place and friendly peopleNice peaceful break.

sam tyson: Couldn't say a bad thing about our stay.Lovely clean facilities, well maintained grounds, nice location, great hospitality and even a little park for the kids. Also acommodated a late checkout with no issues at all.We will be returning soon!

Mark Edwards: Fantastic and facilities for all are the best I've ever seen on a site.I know there is further work planned to increase the comfort of the guests.Nearby activities: Clacton and surrounding beaches are a 10 minute drive away.Walkability: Plenty of local footpaths to satisfy all ages.

Agos Ri: We were 2 couples, we had a pod and a glamping tent. They were super nice, super clean. The spot is great. We didn't know but the pods have bbq, next time will definitely cook there. We rented a fire pit, and can buy wood there for 5£.the toilets very nice and clean. The tent was very cold at night, however with the duvet and blanket you're fine, and then quite hot in the morning.

Rushbanks Campsite: what do users think?

Adam Harris: is perfect for family and friends to spend quality time together and mine certainly made the most of it. Garf the farmer/owner and his family have always shown great respect for the land and have invested their time and money to make it a clean and safe site for all. I miss being able to take my dogs down there, but I do understand their decision to stop pets on site, knowing how popular the campsite has become. I can't wait to get back down there this summer ..

Leo Colvin: A lovely campsite with a beautiful river. Unfortunately, a lot of sewage was recently poured into the river which took away a star. But overall, amazing!Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view, Kid-friendly …

Anna Emms: Overall, a really special campsite. The fact that you can either hire canoes and sups or bring your own is fantastic. We did the 'paddle to the pub' and found the portage points quite challenging as a family of four, but the river is so pretty and it's a fun route - going through a tunnel, past some riverside houses and also with lots of trees and reeds along the banks. I also paddled a little way in the other direction on my own, which was very peaceful. The fire pits you can hire are great too.We did find that there were a few quite loud groups of campers, but it was great fun staying there and hopefully we'll get the chance to go back again.Pub and deli/cafe in Nayland were both really good too.

Rich Greasley: Hotel highlights Quiet, Kid-friendly

Tina Craske: Lovely site, we have been here 2years running. We got the same spot both times. Staff friendly. Showers ok.Nearby activities: Great for paddle boarding 👍

Anwen Walkerdine: and the most wonderful riverside location. Sadly swimming is no longer allowed

Rachel Milton: We had a wonderful weekend camping. Location was so close to the river and they have two jetties for easy hopping onto the river on our paddleboards. They're very conscious of maintaining minimal ecological impact. Water was hot. They subtly make sure the campsite is quiet by 11 by assisting putting out all campfires. Saw the most stars we've ever seen and the most amazing shooting stars. Listening to owls as we fell asleep and woodpeckers as we woke. Great cinnamon buns in the morning too.

Willemijn Bergsma: Nice campsite on the river. You can take a beautiful canoe trip. Facilities fine but simple. Very nice campsite managers.

Philippa Gould: A beautiful riverside setting. The site staff are attentive and helpful. The facilities are all regularly cleaned to a high standard.A lovely spot, and we have returned for revisits. The rules on pitch proximity dont seem to be terribly well adhered to by visitors but the flexibility of pitch location appreciated!!!Canoe trip highly recommended - the canoes are quite heavy for the portage points!

Emma Steel: Great experience all round, easy pitching, friendly staff, beautiful countryside. Lovely for paddleboarding along the Stour.Noteworthy details: No electric hookups

sinead geary: This place is magic !

Jonny Beavis: Camped at Rushbanks for a birthday celebration with my partner. We had the best time! The campsite is very well run and feels secure, safe and super friendly. The need to have fire pits out by 11pm seemed really reasonable to me and it's super dark by then anyway! Felt equally enjoyable for families or couples. We pitched in field just back from river which was a comfortable distance from water but we moved chairs and had a few beers by the river on the Sunday night to enjoy the view so best of both worlds. Would 100% recommend taking a canoe down the river to the pub, so idyllic. Price is definitely worth it and Gareth and James were friendly and helpful. Great trip!

Karen Pitcher: I had a wonderful overnight stay last weekend in my camper van. Beautiful location right on the river. Had a lovely early morning swim and made some special memories with my daughter. Good facilities. Nice that they be come round with everything you need for a fire should you want it. I will definitely return and hope to get a spot next to the river if I can.

Philip Eaves: We were 3 families in a tent, campervan and trailer tent, and managed to grab a spot right on the riverbank… kids spent most of the weekend either in or on the river. The only thing that might have made it better was if they allowed dogs.

Grange Farm Campsite: what do users think?

George Reeves: 4 pubsIndianChineseTescoAnd the train station is only a 10 minute walkIf you want a campsite to stay in the Clacton Area Grange Farm is the place to stay

Wim hoogendoorn: road to it in the dark is a challenge with the caravan. The campsite is good and within walking distance of the village.

Dave Wrench: Fab facilities, very quiet location, been twice now.Location: 5/5Hotel highlights Great view, Quiet, Kid-friendly …

Peter Blake: Good place to stay and camp clean toilets and showers

Mary Williams: Toilet and shower facilities need an update. A chair in the shower cubicle would be useful. Site is very good and quiet. Location just a short drive away from the coast. Really enjoyed our stay here.Location: 4/5 …

Crack Fox: A great spot with a really friendly helpful owner who gave us a good choice of empty spots in the tent field. Nice walk through the fields to Thorpe le soaken . A good number of toilets and showers in my opinion for a relatively small site. We were cyclists on a tour and would like to have washed clothes though . Other campers children were noisy shouting and screaming playing cricket till after dark at 10pm ? Not a fault of the campsite just entitled parents not being considerate towards other campers.

Andrew S: We wanted to attend the Clacton air show and could not get onto our regular caravan site and this was the only site available. There are several fields for motor homes , caravans and tents. Generally level with water and basic toilet facilities available. For me the costs were too expensive for what you got. We were charged for every thing from adult to child and dogs and even for extra car and each visitor! There was just one standpipe serving two fields .My wife and dogs struggled with the walk into the town. Otherwise the site was clean and tidy and offered some nice dog walks. The local railway was noticeable at night. It served a purpose for our stay but was not value for money in my opinion when I know I can stay locally for a lot less .The people welcomed us and we're very friendly and helpful.

Ton C. Kroon: is that you do not know in the morning where you will sleep in the evening. We noticed that many campsites now ask for a reservation. Even if they have plenty of room. At the entrance to Grange Farm

Deborah McLean: . Great location for Frinton, Walton and Clacton. We went to Harwich Park Run - 25 mins away. Will definitely be returning. Thank you Mary for a great stay.

Hans en Willemien Van H: this campsite is exactly what we were looking for on our round trip from Harwich. Arrived in the evening and we were kindly received. we find the campsite nice and tidy, clean and quiet. We arrived the day before our return journey. Good sanitary nice shower. And then we hear that they're probably going to stop. Dear campers, come and see for yourself, stay a few days, go for a walk in the area, but this farmerscampsite would be highly regarded in the Netherlands. if you always look for something negative on a campsite then you should stay at home. it's called camping, back to basics. good luck in the coming time and we hope you will still exist next year.Walkability: Shop and Inn

Paul Brooker: On the outskirts of a village called Thorpe Le Soken on a working farm lies this deceptively large campsite. Well spaced pitches, many with electric hook up. 3 utility blocks are scattered around the different fields and are all well maintained. Owners are friendly and helpful and the location is great for the nearby coastal town of Frinton. Many eateries/pub's are a 10 minute walk away. Very good all round.Walkability: 10 minute walk to village

Jayne Houston: I have stayed here twice, simple quiet farm camp site, facilities are kept clean + owners are very helpful. Great place to explore the area from or like me enjoy a holiday on the coast + visit relatives.Hotel highlights Quiet, Great value …
