Specialized Physicians at Urology Clinics in Bradford: Quality Care for All

Due to changes in work circumstances, I regret to announce that I will be winding down much of my private practice over the coming weeks and focussing my future efforts more on research and development within the bladder and continence field.

I appreciate that this news may cause some anxiety to those who are still under my care and I have already started discussing this with individuals who have ongoing treatment needs. With their agreement, it is my aim to help to refer all such patients onto colleagues and other clinicians working privately who can take them on. I also intend to continue practising to a limited degree within the NHS and providing Urological support to my longstanding colleague and friend, Dr Catriona Anderson in her clinics.

When I started my clinic, I felt there was an unmet need to provide better diagnostic services and treatments for patients suffering from chronic bladder and UTI related problems within the 'North' of the UK. While that need undoubtedly still exists, many other services have grown to help sufferers as has awareness amongst Doctors, patients, and the media. Indeed, management of chronic UTI has even been discussed during specific sessions at the annual British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS).

4worldlovers: The Paul Sykes Centre is the central outpatient department at St James Hospital for patients attending the Urology clinics.

The outpatient team strives to provide a professional, safe and efficient service, with approximately 1000+ patients attending the department on a monthly basis. From April to September we saw 5547 new outpatients and 12476 follow ups.

We ask that you leave plenty of time to travel to the hospital and find your clinic, this is important if you are not familiar with the site you are attending. On arrival please ensure you check in using the self check in kiosk, or please ask at the reception desk.

If you have any questions or are unsure about what to do or what is happening, please ask - staff are there to help.

Delays may happen sometimes. For example, when doctors are called away on an emergency, consultations take longer than expected or emergency cases are referred. Please bare with us in these circumstances - we will be working to see you as soon as possible. Clinic staff will keep you informed about what is happening.

You will be seen either by the consultant or by one of their team.You will be asked about your previous medical history, so it's a good idea to make short notes on information you think is helpful before you come to clinic including a list of the medication you are currently taking. This includes anything prescribed by your GP, medicines bought over the counter at a pharmacy, herbal and homeopathic remedies.

You may find it useful to make a note of questions you want to ask the doctor during your consultation. Bring a pen and paper with you - you might find it useful to make notes about anything the doctor says in the clinic so you can be clear about what has been discussed later.
