My writing and teaching is based on a holistic approach integrating Existential, Buddhist, and Psychoanalytic Psychologies with the contemplative priorities of Dzogchen. This includes the understanding that any attempt to change oneself has in it an element of self-aggression that is less than ideal.

I find a more felicitous attitude and more powerful approach to self-liberation to be that of befriending experience as it is, including inner tensions, contradictions, and all manner of personal embarrassments and self-deceptions. This existentially sober approach involves becoming increasingly aware of how one effectively manages NOT to change. It is through continuing to PRACTICE habitual mental fixations and emotional reactions that old patterns perpetuate the past and impede a change into a future that will spontaneously unfold if we only allow it. Honest self-reckoning clears the way to increasing self-acceptance, which in turn opens us to the possibility of not clinging to any kind of self-centered coping reactions and security arrangements.

The contemplatively-informed practice of non-clinging goes beyond 'psychological work' to the healing play of unconditional presence. At this point, the focus of therapeutic and meditation becomes that of increasing our capacity for being authentically open and freely responsive in life's everyday challenges, opportunities and outrageous wonderment.
