My experience
I am a qualified member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (MITI) having passed their exam in the subject of leisure and tourism. As a member, I adhere to the ITI code of professional conduct and business practices.

I am also ISO 17100:2015 Qualified. 'Qualified' status means I have met the qualification and experience requirements of ISO 17100:2015. This internationally recognised standard establishes specifications for processes, resources and other aspects to ensure quality translation services.

Unless asked to use a different style, I base my work on the New Oxford Style Manual, as recommended by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). I have taken the CIEP introduction to proofreading course.

Continuously since 1977, I have been helping Swedes (mainly) with their English, spoken and written, on a professional basis. In London initially, I taught English on customised high-end courses, one to one. In Sweden from 1980, I taught in companies and study circles; gave home-language instruction to English-speaking children; steadily expanded my client base; and became established as a translator. By 1987 I was working full-time as an authorised public translator from Swedish into English, with my own limited company (Språkverksta'n AB).

I have translated some 60 books (including the international bestseller 'A Child is Born') by authors from Linnaeus to Tore Wretman, Danuta Wasserman, Lennart Nilsson, the Swedish Research Council and the Swedish Institute. Subjects have ranged from Auschwitz to Strindberg, art to nanotechnology. Over the years, there have also been countless company and government reports, legal documents, letters, articles, theses, educational certificates, course materials, press releases, web pages, brochures, presentations, factsheets, museum and exhibition programmes, menus, instructions and much more. Through Språkverksta'n I have won some 20 public-sector contracts to date (and currently have framework contracts with the Universities of Uppsala and Gothenburg and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency).

I have written numerous web pages, two specialist dictionaries, many articles on language-related topics and countless explanatory notes about the English language; done voice-overs and interpreting (e.g. for 'The Best Intentions', Sweden's winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1992); coached Swedish business leaders in English; and edited or revised reams of other people's English. Professionally, I remain at heart an English-language teacher and speaking/writing coach; privately, I'm an insatiable lifelong learner, avid reader and keen writer.

Based in the UK since 2004 (now Bournemouth, Dorset), I stay in close touch with friends and clients in Sweden.
