Bellisario Rare Coin Gallery: what do users think?
Nathaniel Kelley: This guy is the absolute worst. Scroll the rest do these reviews. He 1000% is writing positive reviews himself. I brought in a book of old coins my grandfather had begged me not to sell but I went against his wishes and brought them to his shop to be appraised. He didn’t even look at the coins just told me I was scum, my coins were not worth anything. He then escorted me and my friend from the shop aggressively. I then waited 6 months and went to another shop who took the time to appraise my coins TURNS OUT I HAD A 1917 DOUBLE DIED PENNY WORTH 2500 DOLLARS IN MY COLLECTION THAT HE MISSED. Absolute disgrace of a man. Avoid at all costs.
Marilyn Shesko: I brought Lee some unusual American coins I found in my in-laws' personal effects. Little did I know that he is one of the main experts on US coins. I very much enjoyed talking with him. He carefully evaluated what I brought and gave me a very good price for the ones of value. It was a pleasure dealing with him and I would recommend him highly.
Barry Davis: Lee is a very knowledgeable individual. I felt that I received a fair price for my coin collection. Highly recommend him
Bonnie Grad: I discovered Bellisario some years ago, and have been coming back ever since. The owner, John Bellisario, is honest as can be and brings a scholar’s expertise to his business. Once you visit, you will never want to go anywhere else. Mr Bellisario is a rare commodity himself:pure gold.
Gerry Koocher: I was looking to sell some modern U.S. Mint commemorative and bullion coins that had been sitting in a safe deposit box for many years. I chose Lee Bellisario because of his knowledge, long history in the business, and reputed fairness. I was not disappointed! We were able to schedule a prompt appointment and he carefully went over the items in my collection. The prices he offered me were fair and he gave me some solid professional information on how coins are graded. It turns out that he was one of the people who developed the PCGS grading standards. He also provided a candid verbal appraisal of a family heirloom that I did not want to sell, but had curiosity about. His collection of autographed baseballs (in addition to coins) is also impressive.Be wary of reviews that described him as rude or imply that he was not reasonable in meeting the expectations of some people who posted negative reviews. He's very candid and will tell you if an item is very common or defective in some way. Some buyers may find that disappointing, but the fact is your "treasure" may not be worth what you had hoped.Visiting his shop and selling to him was a pleasant, educational, and worthwhile experience.
John Dix: Very professional, in-depth review of a collection and a fair price. Lee has been at this for years (read about his history on the web site) and you can tell. He took the time required to assess the value of each coin, calling on the latest books, magazines and web resources to reach conclusions, and gave me what I thought was a good price. Would recommend to anyone looking for appraisals or to sell some coins.
Sue Yanovitch: I had an excellent experience at Bellisario - and I learned a lot during the process. I was selling one coin that had been given as a gift many years ago and did not know where to start. I now know what spot is, some of the legalities of different entities who deal in gold/coins, and was treated to some excellent history lessons (and a view of some very old coins). I would definitely recommend anyone work with Lee.
Donald Skenderian: I agree with the other reviews. This guy is simply rude.
Jeremy Schoen: Guy was a absolute jerk. Didn’t even care to to look at my coins. Said he would pay same price for different dated coins 60 years apart. Called some coins fake and barley looked at them. Called the other coins worthless and he would give them to kids for free again barley looking at them.
Naomi Mann: It said it was open till 5, got our hopes up. But then we rang the doorbell and waited for a WHILE and knowine answered. Very disappointing
Daniel Danielson: Courteous, honest, knowledgeable, and informative.
Paul Bau: Bellasario is professional, knowledgeable and fair in his dealings. I have had a dozen transactions with him and always feel I have gotten an even deal.
Edwin Harwood: I have had an excellent experience during various business transactions with Bellisario Rare Coins over a decade or more. Professionalism and fair, competitive pricing, whether as a buyer on one occasion and a seller on multiple occasions, has been my experience working with Lee Bellisario. I've also found Lee to be very knowledgeable about the market and the history of rare coins, precious metals, etc. I've enjoyed our conversations, as well as the fair deals obtained.
D: The owner is honest and straight to the point.
Tony Connor: Owner was very rude. I came in with a coin to have him take a look at it. He examined it for a minute and threw it at me telling me it was fake. I asked him if he could explain his reasoning and he just told me it was fake and that he was sure I had been told that before accusing me of trying to jip him when I just wanted to have someone take a look at a coin I came across.
