The Coffin Works: what do users think?

Katarzyna Boufał: Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure

Sweary Princess: Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No

Mark Ainscow: Fascinating place , well worth a visit

Elanor Wang: I definitely need to show my respect to Joyce and Chirs. To be a respected woman, Joyce saved the building and memories to build this museum. And Chirs, our fantastic guide today, made the experience of museum visiting come to an unexpected memory. Even though I know nothing about the British and Birmingham history, he helped me travel back—so much thanks.

Catrianna Nutting: Really educational and the staff were very knowledgeable. Not far from tram stop. Only downside was lift was broken so I would call before had or check website as there are steep stairs.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Yes …

Katie O'Brien: Fantastic tour! My friends and family laughed when I told them I had booked this but it was worth the visit. The moment we stepped in the door, the staff were welcoming and friendly. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the topic. The items/equipment in the museum have been preserved fantastically. I would highly recommend to any visitors to Birmingham and to the staff: keep up the great work!

Grahame Cousens: A very interesting museumVisited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure …

Natalie Tomlinson: Unusual museum that's well worth a visit. Cornelius was a great guide!

Nikki G: Attended the candlelit tour last night, led by the wonderful Billy Connolly. It was absolutely fascinating, and gave us a real insight into the history of the ‘City of 1000 Trades’ as well as into the cultural history around the rites and rituals of death and dying. Highly recommended!Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Yes …

Anthony Gillespie: Fantastic candlelit tour of the Coffin Works - tour guide was super informative. Highly recommend.

John Alexander: But morbid at all, and no woodwork in sight. All about the fittings to go on the outside of a coffin and the shroud to go inside.Once the world's leading manufacturer and wholesalers of coffin fittings, this is a fascinating museum to visit. The staff are brilliant and you learn so much. Definitely one to visit if you have a good hour to spare.

Beth York: Fantastic experience at this unique place. Well worth a visit.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Yes …

NAMHEE KWON: I recommend checking the time when you can listen to the explanation before visiting. Thanks to the volunteers for their guidanceGratitude and respect for those who protect this!

Neo Will: Very good experience. Well worth doing the tour. The lady who took us was an extremely knowledgeable and genuinely nice person.Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Yes …

The guide was knowledgeable and gave us a wealth of information on the life of the firm and an insight into the workers time at the factory. Really enjoyed the whole experience and would recommend to allNot far from the Birmingham stations/centre and easily walkable

Claire Thompson: Quirky museum but absolutely fascinating! The staff in each room were so knowledgeable and shared such interesting facts and demonstrations, incorporating tales of previous employees. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Nice little cafe too!Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure …

Leon Timmins: *Mindblowing, engaging and authentic!*An exceptional tour delivered by Mark, who shared his knowledge of the works in a way that had the entire group locked-in from start to finish. All staff were polite and approachable, taking the time to answer questions from the group throughout.Thank you to Cornelius who took the time at the end to answer my questions on the shroud room extension and Norton fly press.I would highly recommend a visit here.

Stained Glass Studio + Workshop & Courses: what do users think?

Dawnie Holland: Had a fabulous learning experience with Jamal at Glassic Restoration, and fascinating hearing all about the wonderful work he has done and currently creating .Great day.

Caroline Luke: My sister and I did the 2 day course designing, painting and leading a-small glass panel. Jamal was patient, a great teacher and it was wonderful to hear about how he became a stained glass artist and see his many projects. We were delighted with our results.

Christa Kontozoglou: Very informative course, learned a lot about the process steps of stained glass making. Jamal was a wonderful teacher he let us be creative while at the same time he supported us on our first attempt at making stained glass. We left the class with some lovely colourful glass art!

Paul: Never done glass painting before and it showed got very frustrated but jamal was very patient and his teaching skills are good. He's a talented artist and taught useful techniques on painting and repairing mistakes on glass. Very friendly and will definitely keep in touch for advice. Thank you

Iona Jones: My husband and I attended one of Jamal's four day courses which covered stained glass painting and leading. He taught us a huge amount and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I would highly recommend Jamal, as not only is he extremely talented at his craft, but he is also excellent at tutoring.

Beverley Luke: I would highly recommend Jamal’s four day course...you will not be disappointed! I have learned so much from a great teacher who has an enormous passion for his beautiful craft. Jamal takes you step by step through every stage and makes students feel supported and confident. He is a wealth of knowledge about the history of stained art and shares this with great passion...as a result I’ve come away wanting to learn so much more. Thank you Jamal for making my October half term experience an unforgettable one 🌸

Liz Baker: the tuition is tailored to each individual. I enjoyed the experience thoroughly and am really proud of my own unique piece of stained glass art.

Costas Peratopoullos: I highly recommend the four day course. Jamal is a great teacher and an amazing craftsman who shares his experience and knowledge. the course is perfectly structured so that every one of us had completed a challenging but successful project. the knowledge which I gained enables me to continue the painting at home. ten out of ten

Wendy Lewin: If you want to learn from a master, visit Jamal! Fantastic day, learnt so much and am inspired. Highly recommend the one-day leading course

Jo Lewin: Had a fantastic time at the stained glass workshop with Jamal! The detail and passion the Jamal had was inspiring.Would highly recommend!

Nazim Gire: Really enjoyed our 1 day experience with Jamal and the stained glass piece we made surpassed our expectations. Would highly recommend it, you won't be disappointed.

Bella Gire: Amazing birthday present! My Husband and I had a great time, lots of information and background into leading and stain glass window making. Jamal was very patient, helpful and accomedating. Excellent host, a very relaxed day. Couldn't be happier with the outcome of our workshop. Jamal is a master of his craft and for an extra unexpected treat - his wife's amazing mosaic work will blow your mind! Highly recommend.

gary: I was given a day at one of Jamal's leading workshops as a birthday gift and had a really wonderful time. Jamal's own skill as an artist and craftsman is absolutely first rate and some of the high-end commissions he has fulfilled are breathtaking. It is to his credit that he manages to simplify the essentials into a single day in which we learned enough about glass cutting and leading to walk away with our own finished piece. I'm now seriously tempted to follow up with one of his glass painting workshops one of these days. Most highly recommended!

Danny Arch: Excellent day, with Jamal,s Passion for his craft Shinning Through

Ellis Arch: I bought this gift for my Dad for us to both attend a course by Jamal. Jamal is super talented and showed his knowledge of his craft and skill. It was a fantastic day, feeling comfortable from the moment we got there. I would definitely do this again. Thank you Jamal.

Emily Williams: I am very glad that I decided to come to Jamal’s workshop for a 4-Day intensive stained glass course. I needed to use up my holiday in 2019 and decided on learning a craft in this time. Myself and my mother came across this course and I went with it!I have always found the stained glass in buildings one of my most favourite aspects of it, so learning in the flesh the process of their crafting was fabulous. We received a bit of a history of both stained glass making and also of Jamal’s working time at the Hardman studios. Both of these factors was a great introduction to our time!We had to bring a design to make on the course, I had made one but also had created a tile design a while back from inspiration in the Jackfield Tile Museum in Ironbridge in the Arts and Crafts Morris style which he spotted and recommended doing as my first piece. I am very glad he did as it brought to life a concept I had made! It was a very effective design and also challenging! We learnt various things on the course ranging from cutting of the coloured pieces of glass to fit into the blocked out ‘panes’, to ensuring these were the correct size for leading. We also learnt using browns and blacks painting to both shade and block out some of the painted designs on our works. Mine had lots of naturalistic shapes including leaves and a squash on it where I successfully made it shaded so it looked 3D which I was amazed at by the guidance of Jamal. We also finally did the leading of the piece, which the other two had done previously on a 1-day course and practiced at home with own pieces between times. Jamal was very useful in guiding me on this, so I completed getting my 21 glass pieces together with few issues including successfully teaching me soldering and cementing techniques which I hadn’t done before either ever in my life.It was fabulous also to see Jamal’s work as inspiration including a commissioned piece for someone’s private collection of Sikh devotional items. It was a beautiful sight in the flesh!I am currently working on some designs of pieces to create before I venture into buying kit to make it with, I think it may become an addictive pastime!I would like to thank both Jamal and his wife Somia for making us welcome in their home alongside the rest of their family including on the weekend with plenty of cups of tea!As I typed to Jamal after the course “Tumhara duniya ek rangeela duniya hai! Bohat shukran ke liye meri duniya bohat rang bana, aur nahin andhera!” meaning “Your world is very colourful. Lots of thanks for making my world more colourful and not dark!” This has been fabulous in a difficult year for me, a good hopeful end to 2019 and a start of new colourful hobby for 2020!Thank you very much Jamal and family!

Ruth Crawford: I completed the four day glass painting course with Jamal. It was fabulous. Jamal was able to meet the individual needs of all three of us.I learnt so much, it was a great experience. Jamal is probably the best in the country in this area of glass workmanship.

Sarah Frend: I learnt a great deal about lead work in a very short space of time. Jamal is a true artisan and a very patient and talented tutor. I’m confident I can now tackle leading projects on my own. A great day. Thank you Jamal.

Helen Richards: It was such a great day we immediately booked to go back !

Graeme Bakker: An outstanding experience. I came from New Zealand for this courseJamal is a truly humble man a lovely host, patient teacher, gifted artist and one who cares enormously about the integrity of this wonderfully rich artform.I cannot recommend him highly enough- and I plan to return next year for further training.
